I was thinking about switching to the iPhone 4S, i've wanted an iPhone for a while, but I ultimately went to the GSII on sprint and am very happy for the time being (until I see a new phone coming out with wayy better specs that I want haha).

The biggest thing for me holding me back from the iPhone is the screen size. I had the Galaxy S before, and I love having a big screen. If the iPhone were to get at least a 4" screen I would very much consider it (maybe iPhone 5?).

I also love google nav (i know there are many apps in the app store for this), and the fact that my GSII has an SD card, where I can download any type of file (mp3, documents, pds, etc) and access them from a file explorer. I don't think you can do this on an iPhone? (I may be wrong). I'm also waiting on a 4g iPhone, but hopefully the iPhone 5 will have LTE on sprint!

Like I said before, I do really love my Android (GSII), but I do love apple products. I bought my first macbook pro last year, and I probably will never again buy a laptop/desktop that isn't Apple!

Had the Desire, reason to why I'm changing is cause there is no top-of the line Android device that's slim and "small" and also I've already got a Mac/iPad so why not the iPhone as well. Besides that I don't really care.. I use like 5 Apps. All of which are on both Android and iOS.

I don't know if the reason for not caring about apps and such is cause the Desire had 2004-like storage so I basically couldn't have more than 5 apps. I might get into it now though..

This doesn't really make sense; it sounds like you're craving novelty. Looking at customer satisfaction surveys, no one can hang with apple as far as build quality goes. And, other than maybe the Galaxy Nexus (seriously, the worst name ever) I still have yet to see another phone with as good a design as the iPhone 4(S).

It's not every two years anyway. Until the 4s it was every year and even the 4 was 16 months. Obviously the central idea of icons on a touch screen hasn't changed but many user interface enhancements have been added. Pretty obvious to anyone who has been paying attention.

One thing that got me back to the iPhone 4S from a Galaxy S2 was the fact that I don't have to zoom in to read text on a web page.

Even with the 4.3 inch display on the Galaxy you still have to tap or pinch to zoom in to read the text, even then it's still not as clear as retina display.

Zooming on web sites and overall lag still sucks on Android devices. Including the new Nexus as numerous reviews have noted. Also the quality of the screen does not match the iPhones. It's bigger but less sharp with heavily over saturated colors.

One more regret from Android that I have is the ability to sideload apps into my phone . I did this more from a gaming standpoint. On every android phone I had, I was able to include my NES emulator with 700+ games. Is there an easy way to do that on here?

Galaxy S2 is as smooth or even smoother than iPhone 4S (as evidenced by this video comparison)

All the reviews of Galaxy Nexus published so far were done on pre-release version of ICS. There is very little doubt that Google will be able to get this right.

Not until there is a jailbreak for the 4s

Can you elaborate a bit more? I love Safari but if I'm on a site that's not optimized for mobile or iPhone I find it almost impossible to read. I do use glasses so my eyes aren't what they used to be :(

After reading these I'm definitely making the switch to the 4S from the S2. Then again I still have my 4 with me for now anyway.

Can't stand that so many stocks apps look like a geocities website implemented inside an app.

I'm thinking of switching from a 4S to a SGSII; what is it about the SGSII that has you switching to an iPhone 4S?

There's several factors:

* Firstly the screen. The pixel pitch is terrible since I sometimes like to glance through a webpage unzoomed before actually zooming in on an area. This is just impossible on the GS2. The screen was a bit too big for me too but this may be personal preference.

* Lack of quality, polished apps.

* The ability to turn on/off GPS and other features (wifi etc). Some people may prefer to have control over this (power control widgets etc.) but I honestly did not see the point. This got a little annoying eg. I would turn on GPS when using GPS apps on the GS2 then turn it off afterwards to save battery, otherwise it'd stay on. On iOS these seem to be managed well enough to give me the battery life I needed. I ended up creating using tasker to toggle GPS on/off depending on the app which shouldn't really be necessary.

* Lag. I'm guessing everyone experiences this to different degrees but it's very annoying for me. There's two types of lag that I experience, framerate lag and input lag. Framerate lag I notice mostly when I'm pinch zooming, scrolling etc. where the framerate doesn't seem smooth enough (60fps). Input lag when I'm trying to drag my finger around a web page and the page is always playing catch up with my finger.

* Notifications. Although it feels as if the iOS notifications are a carbon copy of Android there are distinct differences. Rather than finding an SMS app with the type of notification I want (popup/statusbar), or a ROM that does lockscreen notifications, or a launcher with an extension that does app notification badges, all notifications can be controlled in iOS settings.

* Battery life. Definitely worse on the GS2 although it's not THAT much worse and still lasted me through a day most of the time (4-5 hours screen on time) compared to probably about 6+ hours usage time on the iP4 that I had.

Overall the polish of iOS is making me come back and it suits my workflow much better since I use iOS heavily for work purposes. Android on the GS2 was great for tweaking but at the end of the day sometimes I just want things to work.

If you limited how many widgets you have open, does the battery last longer? I only see myself using weather and perhaps a home screen clock widget.

When it comes to app notification--whether its twitter or email-- does the information get pushed or does the app need to be running in the background?

Yeah rooting is a two edged sword. If you don't root you have to put up with bloat and you can't tweak performance. You root and in some cases get better performance but you get FCs and freezes and reboots. Every single ROM I tried had something about it that didn't work correctly. Flashing ROMs became tiresome. All I wanted in the end was for everything to work right and no reboots or freezes. Never did find it.

well said, i feel the same way. there are a few things i miss about android but the new apple notifications beat android at it's own game. plus battery life is easily 3x my LTE phones. i don't think anyone really needs LTE download speeds for email and general stuff on a mobile device. at&t's speeds are just right and the battery life cant be beat. not looking back - i wanted a phone that just worked without constant fiddling/roms etc.

I switched from an Incredible and I will NEVER go back!!

I don't have to deal with a bunch of Pre Loaded Bloatware that kills your battery due to the fact that they start all on their own and you can't get rid of them unless you root your phone and void your warranty.

I can't wait until you get the 4S and get pissed off at the crappy battery life....I went from a 4, to a GSII, to a 4S....and I feel its worse than the GSII.

Totally disagree on the lag thing, you must be a bit crazy. I do kinda agree with the first point about looking at webpages tho....good luck 2 ya!

Maybe it's just me on the lag thing :p I've watched video reviews of the GS2 on youtube and when they're zooming/scrolling they mention how smooth it is but to me it doesn't look smooth at all.

Those who watch a lot of YouTube videos or movies on your iPhone 4/4S will be very disappointed on the galaxy s2. Yes it has a lower resolution so it's not as clear as the iPhone but the colors are over saturated, everyone has a reddish orange tone. Glad to be back to my :apple:.

Vlingo is a pretty good Siri alternative for Android.

I've got best of both worlds. iPad 2, iPhone 4, Galaxy S II.

Ugh, really? Vlingo was the app that convinced me that voice recognition sucked and was nowhere near where it needed to be on mobile devices. That was a year and a half ago, so maybe something changed?

No, nothing has changed. It still sucks.

Just for the fact that it's an app, and not part of the OS makes it useless.

I kept seeing the tech blogs drool over the "monster" phones coming out on Android so I tried one --- the Infuse 4G.

4.5 inch screen was waaay too big for one handed use. Figured out the biggest I'm willing to go is a 4 inch screen.

iPhone does everything I need and then some.

Def no regrets besides the bad battery life of the 4S...

I noticed that the battery life has gotten better after a few full charges.

How do you feel about the Galaxy S II?

I like it. After playing with Siri, vlingo has nothing on it.

As far as my GS II, I love it. It's my primary phone with my iPhone 4 being secondary primarily for imessage use. The GS II is fast and very responsive. The keyboard can be a pain in the ass sometimes but I can't quite figure out why. I think the keys are just too blocky and close. I'm not sure but that's my only gripe. I make a lot more errors with the GS II.

The camera on this thing is amazing. Now if only instagram would release an android app so I won't have to transfer from here to iPhone everytime I take a cool picture.

I'm running MIUI which is a nice rom and it has emoji and just really reminds me of my iPhone... but yeah I love it...perfect size for me and pretty darn zippy and battery life isn't bad either.

Came from an Evo 4g and Evo 3d. Loved my 4g, but after getting the 3d, I got bored. I loved my iPad 2, so I got the iPhone, I have no regrets. I miss google navigation, but I use a standalone gps again, I did after getting the 3d.

I'm sure I'll get bored with the iPhone, and will wind up with another operating system phone, maybe windows phone in a couple years.

I am in the VERY same boat as you. originally started from Blackberry tour to Evo 4g then 3D now 4S...i wonder where our future lies in terms of our next handset choice
