today is day three for me, but my phone hasnt had too much use the last few days. barly any music or internet. A few calls and text.

I guess I did charge it for ten minutes when I was syncing some photos. I notice that the phone has great standby time, which is great when I forget where it is and dont charge it for a while.

I charge it every single night... Getting around 4-5 hours of EDGE use out of it before it gets to 20%. And also i write down how many times i charge, i've read after around 300 - 400 batter life starts to go down...

Yeh because there are just so many people out there. Who have disarched and charged their iphone 3-4 times a day, since it was released, to know this.

how do you know?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3A109a Safari/419.3)

I've noticed that is the case on these forums that not even half the people on here have iPhones.

You have no way of knowing this of course

I use to have to charge every night, then I switched Mail to check for emails manually from checking every 15 minutes. Now every other day I have to charge with considerable usage. I have bluetooth off, brightness at about 45%.

Remember if you spend the day somewhere where there is little signal, the phone will be looking for the network more, thus draining the battery.

:)

I charge my phone 2 times per day and try to keep it plugged as often as possible. Yah, I use my phone a ton, my settings are optimized (wifi off, mail check manual, screen brightness low etc)

you forget where your iphone is christ!!!!!!!!!!!

after you charge it do you have to dissconnect the phone from itunes the way i do with my ipod?
27 days to go!!!!!!!!!

I charge it overnight because I am scared it may run out of battery the next day

you are seriously whining that you have to charge your phone when you are least likely to use it? I don't get it... you are supposed to charge your electronics over night. I have done it with every phone I've ever had and I do it with my iPhone every single day. What do you lose by "having" to charge it every night? Plan on getting lost in the woods?

im not sure if you guys are using 3rd party apps on your phones bug one major drain of battery life supprisingly is running an ssh server from the phone. The installer app has a 'services' application which let's you turn on and off quickly the ssh server. I have found this to help battery life a ton.

I plug my phone in every night. If I forget, I usually can get to the end of day 2 with the phone just hitting the red.

I feel that one of the initial battery scares is always that new users are constantly playing with the phone more than people who have had it for a month or two. Those first couple of days I would be sitting in my house and still surf the web and watch videos using the phone instead of walking across the room to my MBP.

When am on my college campus all day tuesday and thursday I have hardly any signal and the battery is dead before night after just charging it the night before. Probably from searching for signal because it doesn't do it any other days. And last all day with usually 3/4 of battery left with wifi on and moderate phone calls and internet usage. I charge it every night because it is my alarm and I put it on the dock so it plays out through the surround sound (heavy sleeper:D) haven't really had battery problems with it unless I am in a place with no signal all day.

Alright, here's an update on my battery discussion.

I read that Apple suggests restoring the phone, so I did just that
on Friday night. Unplugged on Sat morning, and didn't hit 20% mark
until Sunday night, after 5 hours of usage and 1 day 12 hours of standby
time.

The restore seems to have solved my issues. However, will wait until
the end of Today to make final conclusion as I am back at the work setting
and there may be something going on here that's causing it to drain really
quickly. (As a counter point, buddy of mine at work with an iPhone has
no problem with his device lasting a day and a half with 3-4 hours of
usage.)

We'll see.

So how many hours of usage do you register on your phone per day?
(typically)

Usually 3 1/2 hours. I recharge my iPhone every night. I wish it were better but this is my 3rd iPhone and they all seemed to be about the same ( 3 - 4 hours of Internet use both wifi and edge on a charge).

Yeah, my battery should last much longer, I'll try to get the stats tonight, but for the most part, it isn't a big deal because I usually have a place to charge it nearby. Also, has anything been proven that 1.1.1 kills your battery more? jw

That's how Lithium Ion Batteries WORK. You think the iPhone has some kind of magic in it?

A Lithium Ion Battery is a Lithium Ion Battery. Doesn't matter what device it's inside of. artemka is correct that the battery will eventually wear down.

What you're missing, artemka, is that it's not 300-400 charges, but rather 300-400 cycles. That's when the phone is FULLY discharged and then re-charged. In that case 1 charge = 1 cycle. But how often do you let it run ALL the way down? A half charge does not equal a full cycle. For example, if your battery goes down to 50% and you charge it you've only gone through 0.5 cycles. So do that twice and you've used 1 cycle.

So it will take you longer to get to that 300 number than you think.

This is the kind of answer i was looking for, i just bought my iphone saturday, and i was thinking that 1 charge is not the same as 1 cycle. So today is tuesday , i realize that i just have 2 complete cycle at all..

After updating to 1.1.3, I nearly got 4 days between charges (I deliberately ran the battery down to zero since it had been a couple of months since the last calibration). Disclaimer: if you do run your battery completely down, put the phone on the charger immediately to avoid damaging the battery.

Usage: 9 hours
Standby: 3 days, 14 hours
Brightness: 1/3
AutoLock and Autobrightness On
1 hour mail fetch interval
WiFi on, BT off

Typically I don't put it on the charger every night, but about every third day or so. At least that had been the case with 1.1.2. So far, the battery gauge seems a bit more accurate with 1.1.3, the icon seems to match the charger display more closely.

I usually charge mine every night. Honestly, if I didn't, it would probably last until the next afternoon. I'm pretty sure that I use it WAYYY to much, so I'm happy with the battery life.
