Who here has been waiting until the Back to School promotion to get their MBP?

Can anyone tell me the requirements for buying something in the Apple Store with the educational discount?

Long story short, I work inside a university, but I'm not sure I'm technically staff as I work at the radio station full time but the radio station doesn't belong to the University, it belongs to the students. What proof do I need to provide?

Thanks a lot!
student ID.

from what i've heard though, people don't really check

Waiting, but haven't decided whether to keep or sell the ipod. Doesn't matter how much I get for it if I sell, it's still a discount off the computer. I may wait until July or August to see if macbooks get updates. I am torn between a MB and a 13" MBP

Yea Im waiting for the promotion as well. If they offer the ipod touch i will probably sell it, i suppose I wont get 200 for it though since we will all be trying to do the same thing!!

However if Apple offers a discount on the ipad, that will certainly be tempting. I doubt they will though, they are selling like hotcakes.

I have been waiting since January to pickup my base 13inch w/ 256 SSD, ahh the suspense of owning my first Mac!

TBH I could have used the extra cash....but I am using the mbp a bunch at work and should be alright after my next paycheck. (already payed rent so im all good there haha)

i wanted to wait but my current computer is in SHAMBLES. it gets incredibly hot after just a few minutes, the fan is on blast, it is SLOW. i haven't seen a youtube clip since last june. once the new macbook pro's came out, i wanted to wait until back-to-school but that would require an entire summer without youtube or listening to music on my computer or even just surfing the net for longer than 5 minutes.

i definitely can't wait for the promo. that's why mine is arriving tomorrow or the day after. :p

What about faculty or staff? I searched this forum and everyone says they don't check anything, particularly when you order online. But what if they do? Do they only ask for a school email address? I have that. I read that for students, they sometimes ask for your acceptance letter or something similar, but what about staff? Would a letter from my boss be enough?

Second question, should I wait for the back to school promo, probably later this month? I would be willing to wait a month to get a free iPod Touch. But do you have to be an actual student for that promotion?

If there's no point in waiting, I might order tomorrow at work. I read that if you use a school computer and a school email, they won't ask questions... I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

I'm waiting so I can get the iPod. My 4 year old will enjoy my old one--he steals it enough as it is!

I ordered mine via the online store, with the educational discount. There was no proof needed (at least for me). But I wasn't worried, because I'm a college student.

im definitely waiting for the student discount... since my 2nd gen touch broke ive been using a gen 1 nano and its on the fritz. I was hoping to wait for the new ipods to make that purchase but if i can get the student discount on the mpb, and get a free ipod, then ill just keep it.

If the new ipod touch comes out and its AMAZING, ill just sell the ipod at a loss and buy the new ipod.

im crossing my fingers the deal comes out toward the end of may.

UK Dates

Anyone know the UK dates? I heard they were around August/September but have Apple ever done the promotions earlier in the UK?

For those who are curious or arrived here Googling for something similar... from the Back to School 2009 Terms and Conditions:

Reseller, governmental, institutional, non-profit organizational, and small business purchases do not qualify.

I'm guessing the same rules apply for the educational discount in general. I should buy online and hope they don't call me asking for proof. I was thinking of visiting an Apple store, but they would probably tell me that a University radio station is a non-profit organization and I'm not a faculty or staff member of the school, so I can't get the discount.

Right?

None of the above. My school gets an extra 10% off beyond the educational pricing :)

I'm going to grab a 13" Pro for around ~$1000 most likely, unless I find a really good reason to buy the 15".

The ~$120 I could sell the iPod for is not worth it. Now if they offer a substantial amount off of an iPad, I may be more interested since they will sell for a larger premium.

I'm not in desperate need for my laptop this second, so I figured it'd be better to wait and get something extra. Also, I am really hoping Apple releases iLife and iWork 2010 soon.

I'm waiting as well since my dad wants to get a new iPod Nano to replace the one he got 4 years ago with the student discount. I know the Nano isn't the most expensive model you can get, but he exercises a lot and needs something small that can fit in his pocket easily.

The question is-will you be running to the Apple store the first day or holding out until closer to when the new school year starts? :p

definitely waiting out for the FIRST day of Back to School. I will be going to purchase the 15' MBP w/ Ipod touch what ever is included with the price. I hope iLife 2010 is released along side with the addition. Also I heard about Intel producing its newer processors (low voltage r something) for Macs and hope to snag those up for even better battery life. Well I hope my dreams come true as I have been waiting for a very long time. (a little over 2 yrs. lol I know but I kept saying I could get by with my desktop but a laptop is really needed.)

Does anyone have any idea when MBP will get a refresh with intel's ultra low voltage line of processors for the core i5 and i7. Trying to decide how long I should wait and can some1 tell me will there be a drop in performance and/or increase in battery power.

seeing that these MBP just got released... its gonna be a while... technology waits for no one... just buy it now and live with the fact that something better will come out within the year most likely.

i assume you are talking about the 13" here as it is still stuck with c2d

but there is no reason for using the ulv instead of the normal i5 in the 13" they have the same tdp as the c2d. Also the ulv is the same price if not more expensive than normal i5.

also it doesnt solve the problem with nvidia not being allowed to make a chipset and thus a igp for the ix line wich is the most likely reason why they dont have the i5 already

I'm waiting on the back to school to pickup a 2.66ghz Core i7 MBP.

Mainly because my little brother wants an iPod Touch, so I figured I'd wait so he can get one. Still haven't decided if I want to sell my current MBP or give it to my sister since she is starting college soon and her vaio is a POS.

I was talking aobut the 15" n 17" MBP, I know the deal lol iX comes with Intel HD and C2D is less restrictive(320m) but I was refering to the higher end models as they will have even more then the stated battery time.

Does BestBuy price match back-to-school deals ? It would be great if BB does as I've $300 worth of gift cards thru rewardzone. Anybody tried in past price matching back-to-school deals at local bestbuy ?

My guess is apple won't compromise on the performance of these "pro" machines with low voltage CPUs. That's why they worked to increase the battery capacity itself. The MacBook air is more suited to a low voltage version.
