Who here is not updating to 3.1 or iTunes 9?

I ask this only because I am holding off myself. I think the only advantage of 3.1 is the improved battery life people have noticed. I feel like my battery drains quick on my 3GS, I had it replaced thinking it was a hardware error but I had the same issue with the second one. I have not upgraded to 3.1 because I use internet tethering (benm) way too much to give it up and I heard just updating iTunes breaks that as well. Who else has yet to update because they do not want their tethering to go away?

Me. Not going to 3.1 until Jay tells me it's clear. Not messing with iTunes 9 until it tells me I must upgrade in order to do something. I dont do anything in iTunes anyways, but add songs and crap. I dont need the latest.

I'm not. I'm jailbroken and I have my phone set up just the way I like it. There is nothing in 3.1 that I need so it's not worth having to redo my setup for it.

I upgraded to iTunes 9 because I figured that couldn't hurt anything. I'm holding off on 3.1 until the jailbreak is available. Nothing really there that excites me that much anyways.

Are you joking? Where have you seen reports of improved battery life (that weren't sarcastic)?

I updated the 3G iPhone but the 2G is staying at 2.2.1 and the 3GS at 3.0.

If Apple would ever allow iBlacklist as an app store app then I would have no problem in upgrading.

Unofficial reports but if you search some threads, people have said they noticed a slight improvement.

Same here. I do not use it other than to sync and backup my iPhone so that could definitely wait.

Is this true, since I updated one of my computers to 9 but haven't synced yet.... and don't want to lose tethering. I haven't launched it since upgrading, so I wonder if I will be able to downgrade back to 8.2

I wouldn't think anyone could really tell one way or the other this soon, IMO.

I am getting at least 7 seconds longer battery life. I love it. 3.1 rocks!

Yes, a few people have mentioned this happening. They did not want to upgrade to 3.1 because they didn't want to break tethering but they updated iTunes and that broke it for them.

I made the jump, and kinda wish I wouldn't have. Tethering was nice, came in handy fairly often.

I already have iTunes 9, the only wait for me is 3.1 which I am waiting on the Dev Team to give me the green light.

With the added fact that my iPhone is a brand new replacement, I have seen a slight increase in battery ;)

    How do I know?

Well, with my usual routine, my battery level was higher than I expected it to be at certain points in the day. :)

I upgraded to iTunes 9 and downloaded 3.1 but did NOT install. I just wanted the file just in case. ;)

I've spent wayy too much time and energy into 3.0 to upgrade and lose my jailbreak and all the apps. I finally have it the way I like it and won't be bothered at this time to upgrade. ;)

Not true. Upgraded to iTunes 9 but did not upgrade to 3.1 on my 3G and the benm tethering still works. Dunno where you're reading that, but I dont see any reason why you should think that an iTunes update would break tethering profiles on your phone.

I'm holding off for the 3.1 jailbreak. Got my 3GS dialed in with backgrounder, SBsettings, Intelliscreen, and some other cool stuff, and I'm not giving those up for these minor tweaks. But I will upgrade as soon as the jailbreak is out and confirmed successful.

On the whole "better battery life" issue, I think we're truly splitting hairs now. While Apple updates likely contain minor tweaks to fix memory leaks, fine tune the battery indicator, etc., I don't expect any more big improvements on battery life. They've been making iPhones since 2007 and I think they've pretty much gotten all they can out of the battery at this point. With that said, I sometimes notice irregularities with my battery indicator (jumping around) and that bug may be fixed by 3.1.

I upgraded both and I'm extremely happy I did.

iTunes 9 is nice but 3.1 with its better battery life is truly making my day :D

I see no reason to hold off, provided you didn't jail break the phone.

Confirmed, I have upgraded to iTunes 9 but did NOT download/install 3.1. Tethering still works fine.

Same as others. I'm sticking with 3.0 for now. I have my jailbroken phone set up just the way I like it. 3GS by the way.

Upgraded to iTunes 9 but I'm holding off on OS 3.1. Although I'm not jailbroken/unlocked, I'd like to keep the unlock option for the future. Apparently, it's possible that OS 3.1 will update your baseband rendering unlocking impossible (this cannot be reverted).

Lose jailbreak (and possibly permanent loss of unlock) and tethering?

    Yeah sure, why not?
