Credit checks prevent fraud? Please elaborate just how a credit check prevents fraud. #1 reason?

1 - A potential lender can check information against what is contained in your credit report and query any inaccuracies.
2 - Identity fraud victims can see when credit applications are made in their name and take action.

There's two reasons, straight off the bat.

It can also protect lenders against fraud, in the sense that someone can't go and tell them that they're an excellent payer when they're not, as their credit report will have their true history.

Credit score is an quantified judgement of your ability to pay, so no, it's not ridiculous. They're not going to give a 1k loan to someone who isn't going to pay them back.
