When you buy the iPhone 5S $0 down on T-Mobile

do you have to pay the service fee right away ? the $75 month or thats after your first month? I don't know how they work but I hope it's not a joke that the iPhone 5S is $0 down.

----------

If you cancel your iPhone T-Mobile plan do you have to pay ALL of the remaining due right away or it's just monthly remaining balance...Like $25 a month for 24 months ?

There will be an ETF for sure. You aren't getting an iPhone free.

Oh I mean just the phone service but like can we just pay the phone hardware monthly instead of both the hardware and the phone service?
Not sure if I am making sense...

If you cancel your service, you have to pay everything you owe on the device. They have no need to finance phones at 0% if you're not going to use their service.

If you cancel your plan then the remaining balance that you owe on the phone is due on your final bill.

Oh so there's no way that we can randomly just pay only the phone instead of the service? So no option of just paying only the phone hardware monthly? Like paying $25 per month for 24 months instead of paying $25+50 for service?
No way in just paying the hardware for 24 months? Sorry if I don't make sense.

Nope. You can only do the monthly payments if you have postpaid service with them. So for example if you get the phone for zero down and cancel the next day, they will send you a bill for $649 a month later.

You pay all of it right away. If you want to finance a phone without a service contract, perhaps you should use a credit card?

I think OP is asking if you can finance the hardware only through T-Mobile. No you cannot do that. They give you interest free financing in order to make money off your monthly service. You could finance the hardware with a 0% interest credit card.

Uh, why would you want to pay for a phone you can't use due to lack of service?

The OP clearly wants an iPhone 5S, but can't afford it outright; so he wants an interest-free loan on it from Tmobile without giving Tmobile anything in return (subscription to a measily $50/month cell service)

The answer is no. If you want the financing, you need service thru Tmobile. Otherwise just sign up for a credit card and use that. There are plenty of 0% APR offers out there.

no there is no way. You must have phone service with Tmobile if you want a good deal that they're offering, basically like every other cell carrier out there. The $0 down promotion is simply to get people who want an iPhoen to buy Tmobile service.

Wow, reading his previous posts, it seems like he's desperately trying every trick in the book to buy a phone he clearly cannot afford.

Go half and half with your father. Come up with $300 and have him pay the other half. That's what my dad and I do. Lets him pitch in what he could have initially afford to get me, and I get to pay the premium for something I REALLY want.

Don't get yourself into a contract. You spend less buying the device outright in all cases.

Or he could get a job, save his paychecks, buy it himself and have the satisfaction of making a big purchase (big for someone his age) all by himself.

Ultimately how his family and himself come up with the money for the iPhone or who pays what is none of my business, but from his post history, he keeps trying to find ways to get an iPhone on the cheap without lifting a finger, and the fact that nothing in life comes free or easy is a valuable lesson.

I wouldn't advice a young person to get a job simply because they want a phone on contract. There are too many people seeking them for better living, and the last thing we need are people working for the benefit of just buying stuff they want. Leave the jobs for the people that need to feed their family.

I grew up with a lot of people who got jobs in their teenage years. All it got them was fancy cars, big insurance rates, and a lot of other purchase regrets. You have to be responsible with money before you can make it, otherwise it's like the saying, "a fool and his money are soon parted."

Which is why I suggested saving up some and splitting the cost up. He can then pay for service on his own on GoPhone or whatever.

But yeah, it's his choice.

Just so you know, the $0 down is only for the 16GB model.

Normally when you finance the phone with T-Mobile, you don't make the first payment on the phone until the 3rd month. The first month will be prorated so that includes the partial month that you started the service and then the full cost of your plan for the first full month. The second month will be a regular bill and then on the third month, you will start paying for the phone.

If you cancel anytime without having paid any payment on the phone, that $600 will become due and you will get a bill for that plus the final bill for service that you didn't pay for.

I bought my 32GB back in November and paid $399 for the phone as the down payment. That means I can cancel today and only pay the balance due on my phone which is $300 plus whatever the balance for service that I used through today. It is less than what you would pay because I paid the $399 down payment whereas you are paying $0 and your monthly bill will be higher per month than if you paid a down payment.

No, I don't think it's stupid, but I understand how credit scoring works and what its purpose is. You don't seem to understand.

If you think it's stupid then pay cash.

We have a tariff like this in the UK. Your bill is split into 2 parts, the service and the phone, and is part of a 2 year contract. If you want to upgrade your phone you just pay off what you owe for the phone, and the service part of the contract is waived. I've just upgraded to the 5S, to do this I only had to pay off the phone part of my contract.
