Thinking of getting one! But thoughts about getting an Iphone makes me have seconds thoughts (I have been with Verizon well before AT&T introduced the Iphone).

Enjoy!

The iPad is amazing. Better to have a first gen than none at all........

Like to poster said, you always have options if you CHOOSE to upgrade. Who knows, you may not need to or want to.....

Just enjoy. Sometimes you wait for things that never happen or take a long time to happen. Why sacrifice in the meanwhile?

Just enjoy one of the best tech toys to come out in the past few years. The one that all others will be measured by!

****Now back to regular programming!****

already got it :) love it. the reason I would've gotten the 2nd gen iPad wouldve been for FaceTime support but i have an iPhone 4 so I wouldn't need it :D

I didn't plan on getting an iPad as i already own a PowerBook, iMac and iPhone but my boss got me an iPad for Christmas and I'm loving it. I think I enjoy browsing the Internet on it more than any of my other devices and some of the iPad and even universal apps are so much better on the larger iPad screen.

I couldn't care less about having FaceTime on it as that's what my iPhone is for. Not sure what else the iPad 2 will add but I'm more interested in redesigned MacBooks than the iPad 2 anyways so I'll probably keep the iPad for Internet browsing and reading.

A few weeks can be a long time if you want something so bad...
Secondly who knows how long it will take before iPad 2 comes out?! It could be April and that's a lot of few weeks. Personaly I don't think Apple would miss the holidays for a new product launch. In a few weeks a lot of people will still have exhausted credit cards and buyers remorse from the christmas spendings.

To the OP, if you can, wait a bit with buying the iPad 2 if it comes out. It might be a bit better than the iPad 1, but usually not so much that it's worth another 450 or 800 dollars.
I've bought the 64Gb3G because I intended to keep it until iPad 3 comes out. So far it works great, but I'm not sure if I can hold back that long.... :D

I have a feeling if you're the type that feels "A few weeks can be a long time if you want something so bad..." you're also the type that's gonna cry when a better version of what you have comes out.

I'm waiting for V2 because V1 did not have all the features I feel it should have, specifically A CAMERA. That was a no-brainer and I think Apple left it out just to make more money in upgrading to a must have feature.

I was completely SHOCKED and let down when I heard there was no camera in the iPad.

From V2, I'm sure I'll wait a few iterations. That's what I do when I make a solid choice I'm happy with.

Its not a fear of buying products; its being a smart consumer. And not a lot of people tell you not to buy a new iphone because an ipad just came out. That's like not buying a new car because you just bought a new bike. No one, unless you have money to burn or need it to run your business or to live, would buy a product when a better version of that product is coming out in a few weeks. Its just silly.

Did not realize 4 months equates to just a few weeks. Must be new math.

camera, SD card slot, more RAM.

Hmm I would love an SD card slot.. but I really doubt it. More ram would be great, lighter would nice, and really after using the Retina display, I hope they update the resolution even a little, I know Retina is impossible at this time.

I'd get a V1 if i had lots of extra cash, but I just don't. So I need to be more selective with my spending. :(

I originally planned buying one as a xmas gift for myself but since gen2 is coming out on feb 2011 I guess it would be a valentine gift for myself, I would wait for the gen 2

I don't know for sure, but I think my parents are getting me one. When the new one comes out I will continue to enjoy the current version. I'm not a person who desperatly needs the latest technology, I'm still using a 1st gen iPod touch.
My plans for upgrading the iPad is to keep this version until the 4th or 5th edition is out and upgrade to that.

I purchased one as an early Xmas present to myself back in October. Depending on what new features the iPad 2 will have that would benefit me, I may or may not get the new model.

I should be getting mine via Fed Ex tomorrow.

(I think I'll open my Christmas present to me a little early!) :)

Camera doesn't really make sense to me on iPad. Face-time chat is not something I use it very much.
Apple will support iPad for at least anothe 2 years I think and I am not getting iPAd 2 unless it has retina display with 300 pixels per inch. My guess is probably no.

My thoughts exactly. I own an iPhone 4, I don't need a camera in my iPad. The only way I'll upgrade to iPad 2 is if they somehow manage to make the display retina, which doesn't seem too likely. Maybe iPad 3.

I have two new 16GB Wifi @ home, one for my wife, and one for my step daughter. Thank you to Craigslist and the people hurting for cash, I got them both for $825.
I will not be buying the next rumor. The last thing we need in my house is another device for taking photos.

Got a 16 gig wifi for my son yesterday, couple best buys were sold out, had to find one online for instore pickup.

I got mine a few weeks ago for Chanukah and I love it! Will there be things about the iPad 2 that I will envy, sure. But it won't make me enjoy my iPad any less!

Just picked one about an hour ago. I am aware of the new one coming out but since this is mostly for my daughter who is only 6-7 years old, she doesn't need all the new stuff. So I gave in and got her one. On the way home, all I heard is when can I open it, I want to play with it, can I open it now, when? :D

I love to shower my daughter with great gifts, especially ones that she's willing play with for a year or two like her nintendo ds. I'd much rather buy this than toys. ;)
