Been doing a lot more graphic design work lately and would buy a 15-inch MBA for this purpose. The work I do (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) all runs pretty nicely on my M1 Air, so I don't really need the power and expense and weight of a MacBook Pro. But at the same time I would love to be able to spread out a little more on screen. The upgrade to an M2 or M3 processor would probably be all the speed bump I need.
the 15inch will be just as heavy if not heavier than a macbook pro, the current m2 mba is only .8lb lighter than the 14inch. apple would have to bend physics to squeeze in 2inch of extra real state both on screen and body and not gain more weight.

The MBA 15" is a win. I'm definitely going to sell my 14" and get one eventually.

It took Apple two decades to finally realize that there is a market for people who want a bigger screen but don't need extra performance. This solves a huge gap in the Mac lineup, IMO. For as long as I can remember, I never understood why I was forced to buy a $2000 MBP with Pro performance just to get a big screen when in the Windows-PC world there are tons of low-cost 15" and 17" laptops for those that just want a bigger screen.

I originally had a 16" M1 Pro and while it was an incredible laptop, it was a brick and I barely used it. I then downgraded to a 14", which I use a lot more, but I miss the big screen. The MBA 15" is what I've been waiting for.

I’m a fan of the price but one small nitpick is that the native resolution of the 15” Air on the Tech Specs page is 2880 x 1864 which is actually lower than the 3024 x 1964 of the 14” Macbook Pro. Slightly disappointed with that, I was hoping for more real estate than the 14”, I wonder what the native “looks like” will be.

if they make air 15, with mini led at least, pro motion, its gonna be instant buy for me. But for this price, 60 hz lcd display - nah.

Well, right after the opening of WWDC, I am planning to visit Washington. And if by then MBA 15 inch is available, I might be tempted to buy one. Currently, I am a happy owner of MBA m2 but bigger screen intrigues me. Other than, probably specs are similar and maybe MBA 15 inch has a higher specced M2, which I'd be happy to have but it is not a deal breaker.
If you have the money, buy a 16-inch macBook or wait a little for the release of the 18- and 20-inch macBooks.
If you don't have the money, then buy the 15-inch MBA.

very nice pricing!
15 inch mba's weight increase also is minimal, only 1.4kg vs 1.2 kg of MBA m2 13 inch (which is quite light).

I would've purchased this immediately, but it came out 3 years too late. My 10-yr-old original macbook air was falling apart, they'd already been promising a "large MBA" for three years, and I finally gave up and got the 16" MBP. The CC's been paid, and I LOVE this screen and the speakers; I'll be keeping and using this MBP until I can't anymore.

personally, 13" is fine by me for it's portability, while i'd prefer something larger than my current 16" laptop screens for some "stationary" work, not smaller.

though my next MacBook probably won't happen before Linux is running perfectly native on Apple Silicon anyway, including every aspect like the fingerprint sensors.
still completely enjoying my M1s in the meanwhile though.

downgrade in screen quality and guessing the air light bleed will be bigger

I have the money for the 16” pro. I just ordered the 15 air. I don’t want the weight of the 16, I’m already annoyed that my 2018 15” Pro weighs 4lbs. I also don’t want to deal with heat and running fans.

The resolution is basically the same as the older 15" Pro, with a few extra vertical pixels for the notch area. I'm sure the usable real-estate will be fine.

Hi! In 13” M2 model there is a huge difference in ssd speed regarding 256gb vs 512gb configuration due to use of 1 or 2 chips. Any info if this has changed with 15” model?

Same. Replacing a 2017 15” MBP. Goldilocks size and shape for larger screens.

As an M1 owner, at first I was like, "OMG it's a bigger screen and isn't a huge increase in cost, I have to buy one right now!".

But now the dust has settled, and realising the specs aside from screen size are identical to the 13", I'm more drawn to buying a 13" M2 and paying the extra to upgrade ram and maybe AppleCare too.

I need 16/512 minimum, so for $300 more I'll get the 14 Pro, so what's the point of buy the 15? I prefer the 14.

I have an external monitor so 14 vs 15 is not issue.

Maybe I'm just not as sensitive to it, or perhaps because I'm not a creative professional I don't use those features, but I find the mini-LED and pro-motion overrated. I would probably never notice if I didn't know these features were there.

The true HDR is another part of the better screens.

Most folks have iPhones capturing HDR photos/videos now and an amazing amount of folks can't even view all the quality that is there.

They do, it is called Pro model.

It's not the same thing

Most PC vendors, for instance, allow you to upgrade just the screen tech on a variety of laptop models.

It's a really nice way to get a machine that very closely matches what the customer wants
