Hmm I don't know if I should sell before the announcement or not. I don't think I have that choice anyway, I have two school textbooks on my iPad and if I sold it and the new iPad's aren't available right after they announce them, well, I'd be screwed lol. I've never dealt with either ebay or selling through craigslist. Which one would you guys recommend? Still thinking how much I should sell my 32GB 3G.
I've sold on both in the past and each has their own disadvantages.

Craigslist
-Usually get more for your item
-Have to take cash only to be safe
-You'll get a ton of spam regarding the item
-Always risky meeting someone, but I've never had any issues. If it's a lot of cash then meet somewhere like a bank or maybe a Starbucks.
-No shipping

Ebay
-Much more protection for both buyers and sellers
-Less spam; folks are usually legit on eBay
-Cuts from eBay and Paypal are ridiculous

Looks like Craigslist has more pros, but for some reason I always tend to go with eBay.

People really paid $400 for a used item that costs $500 new? Where did you find these people? I have ocean view property to sell them in Arizona.

I did the same(sold mine for 400) people see it as - 100$

id have to disagree i almost sol my ipod on ebay and they wanted it sent to nigeria or something, i had a paypal and the process was semi confusing, especially if you dont have time to sell the item...i sold my ipod 2nd gen literally a day before the announcement of the new gen with facetime,

Sold my 64GB 3G/WiFi with Portenzo case & crystal film or 755 on eBay today, did a 3 day auction. Very pleased. Sure I took a bit of a hit but I got a ton of use out of it and am looking forward to a newer (and LIGHTER) model.

I think 400.00 for the base 16G is the going price now most people have no idea a new one is just around the corner.

Good overview. One thing I'd note is that for Craigslist sales of anything over $100, and you agree on a central meeting place, make sure that you always select the location and that you bring a friend or 2 (safety in numbers). I've known people who have been ripped off at places like McDonald's, Starbucks, and usually the employees there (and people in general) will not interfere. Craigslist is a good place to sell things because you retain more profit, but it is trolled by spammers and general low-life's.

just a word of caution when selling on ebay, always and always use signature required, no exception to this rule. i know couple of guys who got duped and as buyer filed item not got claim.

Sold mine

Took me three days to sell my 64GB WiFi for 590 on craigslist. I also included the stylus I had.

Looking to upgrade.

I sold mine back in December got $420 for my 16gb ipad and case on craigslist.

I love my 64GB 3G iPad - had it since release day - so I'll probably buy a new version if it's a compelling upgrade. But I'm so satisfied with this one that it'll have to be a significant upgrade, otherwise I'll hang on to this one for a while longer. If/when I do upgrade, I'll give my current one to my kids to use (keeping the unlimited data SIM of course).

Sold my 16GB and Apple case for $525 CDN three weeks ago. I was using it infrequently since I'd purchased a 11" AIR and have been using the laptop for couch surfing.

That said, if there is indeed a worthwhile processor/RAM upgrade I'd jump. I loved the iPad but image-heavy websites almost always meant checkboarding. If that's resolved (perhaps in combination with a Safari upgrade via the rumored iOS revision), I'd definitely consider purchasing.

I just sold my bundle on eBay for $550. 32G Wifi only iPad w/ Apple Keyboard & Incase sleeve.

I learned a lot from the ownership of the iPad. I definitely agree that the iPad has a place in this world, but it just wasn't for me in the way I use this computer. I replace a MB with the iPad and have a Mac Mini and 24" monitor in my office for "work". I thought the iPad would be great around the house for simple things that I do in my off time, like internet, email, etc. And it does all those things great. What I found it that the form function just didn't suit me well as a couch potato. Having to hold it in and type with my thumbs frankly caused my thumbs to hurt when typing a long email or lots of short emails. So for me, the iPad wound up getting used less and less and I found myself yearning for a laptop again. I just bought the new MB Air and love it. I loved the instant on and incredible battery life of the iPad and didn't want to give that up. I just wanted it in the form of a laptop... thus the MBA.

I put mine up on ebay, I'm just unsure on whether to make it a three day auction or a one day?

I did a five day auction for my 64GB Wi-Fi with a starting bid of $340.00 and a buy it now price of $600.00. 8 hours later there were no bids, and 9 hours later someone purchased it with buy it now. I don't think you need a long auction as the iPad is still popular. I was happy with my sale. :)

Amazon

I also have the impression that eBay and Craigslist are populated by scammers and lowlifes. I tried to sell a BlackBerry on eBay once, and the "buyer" wanted me to send it to India after I clearly stated that I would ship only within the USA. The "buyer" then started sending me emails that were supposed to look like they were coming from PayPal, threatening penalties if I did not ship. Of course, I ignored them and nothing came of it. eBay is probably not good for selling electronics, if you are just an ordinary person looking to recoup some of your costs.

A couple of days ago, I tried Craigslist for selling my iPad (32GB, 3G). I stipulated "cash only, in-person trade." Half an hour after the ad went up, I got a message from someone who wanted "to buy it for a friend," and he was "out of town on assignment" and wanted to "wire transfer me the money."

If you're looking for an alternative to eBay and Craigslist, here's what I did: sell your iPad on Amazon.com. The benefit of that is that a buyer needs a registered credit card and address to buy from Amazon or an Amazon seller. So when the buyer clicks "Buy," the money immediately goes out of their account and into yours on Amazon. Plus, the ordinary shopping public knows and trusts Amazon. So when someone buys your item on Amazon, you are paid as soon as you confirm the shipment (although it is wise to leave the money on your Amazon account for a while in case the buyer wants to return the product). And, of course, Amazon takes a cut of the sale, but their rates are reasonable and they give you some credit for shipping. Thus, as a seller, I don't have the impression that Amazon is populated by scammers and lowlifes.

That's how I sold my iPad, and I'm now ready for the 2nd-gen iPad.

i was a day away from selling my 64gb wifi, but then couldn't do it.
after purchasing an air i use it much less, but i think i'll keep it until it gets a big bump in resolution.
its always just a nice thing to have around the house, and you never know when it'll come in handy.
if you're not sure whether to sell, and you can afford to keep it.
keep it :D

I plan on keeping mine for a good while. I could be less interested in a camera on it, I have never even used FaceTime on my 4 at all. Retina Display isn't that big of a deal to me either. For what I use my iPad for, my current one does everything I want it to do.

I'm in this same boat with ya. Could care less about the new "rumor'd upgrades". It needs to be wildly better or it's not worth the hassle.

If it does my laundry, files my taxes, and pays for my gas, maybe I'll consider buying it.

Not selling the old one. It's going to my wife. I just hope the new one is lighter. I use it as a book and web reader and it gets heavy after awhile. I have wifi only now. Will probably go with combo this time just in case.

Cheers,

I have had one since the launch in the US and I don't think I have yet to realise the full potential of the ipad 1

So I will be keeping mine until I feel like it needs to be eplaced

Doesn't feeli like there is much coming in the refresh that will affect my workflow (both in the office and at home) enough to interest me in an upgrade yet

Just shipped it off yesterday

I bundled my 32GB WiFi iPad together with the Apple iPad case and the remaining balance of Apple Care I got for it in my 3 day eBay listing and it sold for $558 + $65 shipping to Luxembourg.
I was a little concerned at first because I didn't get any bids on the first full day it was listed.

I've got mine listed, but trying to decide if it is worth the hassle. The latest macrumors story has me second guessing it.

The Apple staffer declined to give details about the iPad 2 or 3, but said:

"For the iPad 2 don't get your hopes up too high. That's all I'm going to say. They've had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about."

Thanks apple. New ones on their site are now starting at $400. Makes it almost impossible to sell mine for anywhere near what I paid for it a month ago.

I agree. My situation is similar. My wife bought the 64g wifi+3g Ipad as an anniversary gift. I use it daily but feel very weird about selling it and buying another. So I plan on keeping it and waiting for Ipad 3, at least 2 years will have passed and it won't seem as bad to upgrade.
