Honestly unless you do a whole lot with your phone a 4S is still perfectly servicable. As long as all you need to do is make phone calls, text, get your email and do some casual web surfing you should be more than fine on it.

I saw someone today still using a 4. I find it funny how hard it is to tell them apart but this phone had 4 antenna breaks with no SIM card tray so it was a Verizon model. Mainly though I see a lot of 5ses. Everyone who has a 5 has pretty much upgraded to the 6 or 6 Plus and I don't see them anymore.

I have also seen quite a few 6's but only a handful of 6 Pluses.

Here in San Francisco I see quite a few 4/4s in the wild.

Especially on the train to and from work.

But that's to be expected. Damn things still look pretty damn premium.

I use a 4s, my wife uses a 4, and will get an upgrade shortly. I love these replies with things like 'crazy' this phone does all i need it to and then some, im very happy with it, why should/would i upgrade if im happy with the one i have?

This phone snob crap drives me mad
What phone snob crap? Outdated is all I said...I just never see the 4's/4S's in the wild like the rest of you guys.

I've had over 100 iPhone 4's and they are great devices. My bro even uses a 4.

I said it was "outdated". Would you not agree?

Why? Why should you upgrade from an iPhone that works fine and if you're happy with it? No reason...keep it! It's a great phone!

I have gotten a little tired of people thinking just because somebody has a 5S instead of a 5C or "insert" we're a bunch snobs that have nothing better to do but spend money. It's what I needed at the time, and I'll probably have it for another year or two.

My 60 year old Mother in Law is using my wife's old iPhone 4 still. Its 5 years old now so ancient in tech terms. I don't know anybody else. I know of one person using a 4S and a couple still with iPhone 5's that haven't come to the end of the contract yet. Most iPhone users I come into contact with are using the iPhone 6 with only a few on the 6 Plus.

Its funny with Apple selling so many 6's that you don't see more. Goes to show how many phones there really are out here.

I don't see many 6's out there either. This is the first time I've ever been able to say that about the newest iPhone.

I still use my iPhone 4 as my main phone. The battery lasts for a day still and there is no scratch on it anywhere. Even though it's not fast with iOS 7 it does what it should without problems. It's cheap and I still think the 3,5" screen has the right dimensions, the 4" looks tall and weird...
My only complaint is that the anti-fingerprint-coating seems gone. Thankfully it's over the whole phone and not just in certain spots (that would look real bad), but sometimes it's just too shiny and smudgy... A microfiber case helps a lot!
I will upgrade when there is a real need for it (but then keep it on the iOS-gen it came with, I've learned that well know!).

It is rare anymore to see people using the iPhone 4/4S as their every day iPhone. Usually see the 5C/5S now...don't you say that the iPhone 4 is a little outdated?

So who still uses the good ol' iPhone 4? And why

I still see quite a few old folks using the 4S at least in white, a woman at the apple store the other night when I bought my 6 was concerned her phone was broke, wanted the 6 and has been eligible for some time, but was reluctant to spend money on a phone. I figure she was late 50's to 60's so it depends on your needs.

I was using my 5 until the other night, and I am glad I went with the 6, nice size phone, great battery life so far, and overall I am happy

I use a 4S as my work phone, replaced a 3GS a couple of months ago when it got handed back when someone moved on. Give the alternative choice of a Lumia 530 I'll keep the "old" iPhone thanks. Runs iOS8 very well.

I was using a 4 as my personal phone until the 6 launched. Worked perfectly after 4 years of daily use, original battery still lasted a couple of days. It was just ... very ... slow ... since installing iOS7.

Outdated? No. The 4 crawls on iOS7, but would work just fine if it had been left on iOS6. It's a tool, not a fashion statement that turns into a pumpkin after 12 months. ;)

i have an iphone 4 running ios6 yet as a second phone.

trust me it feels slow even on ios6

probably because we are so accustomed to see faster speed of different phones that we feel iphone 4 lagggssss.

anyway answer to the op
i have an iphone 4 up and running and use it daily as a second phone

Ah, you crazy Canadians...

(Just kidding. If you really are still on a 3GS, then great!)

I'm still on a 3GS, but I call it my iPod touch 3GS. I think cellphone plans are too expensive for what they offer. I have Messages and FaceTime audio on my Mac mini and I'm free of interruptions when I'm outside.
