At these prices, I'm still happy with my 2011 MBP. Had it reballed and switched to SSD, so hopefully many more years of use.

Waiting. Trying to wait patiently, but I'm reading forums like a lunatic.

The new MBPs look great and I want one - especially comparing my 2008 MB screen to my iPhone7 screen: I'm ready already. I would like the complaints over the battery to settle down and any firmware updates or software optimizations to come through and convince me that the new machine can be a long-term machine for me.

It would be great if I could get a replacement before this one melts down or becomes intolerable to use. On the other hand, if I could drag it to 9 years (in good condition), I would feel like a bad ass.

In the mean time, I tried to improve my 2008 MB by cleaning under the keys. I read about how I could snap the keys off, clean under them, and snap them back on again. Don't do that. They snap off and they snap back on, but my typing has been greatly compromised. I'm an idiot.

Make sure they are correctly connected. Some keys have metal bars, etc. Youtube has some good videos.

I watched videos. They're connected. They're just less reliable. Over the years I have made many improvements (battery, memory, hard drive, fan and heat sink cleaning) that have restored my happiness with this computer, but the keyboard cleaning had the opposite effect.

The 2016 15" is a better computer than the 2015. Better screen, dGPU, battery life, SSD speed, external monitor support, runs cooler, quieter, better speakers, Touch ID, touch bar, size/weight. Much more powerful ports. Whether those are worth the difference in price is a subjective thing, but they do cost money to produce.

I agree it's a superior machine in almost every aspect, but £3000 is a bit ridiculous.

I feel so tempted to get the 2016 model. Even if prices are high, I think that going from:

Early 2011 15" MBP, 8GB ram, 2GHz i7, 500GB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

to

2016 15" MBP i7 quad core 2.7 GHz, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD Radeon Pro 455 + the whole form factor which includes the touch bar and touch ID, smaller footprint and weight, force touch trackpad and Retina Display

makes the price not seem like a terrible thing!

£2700 for the base, I think. The 2015 model with similar specs opened at £100 more, so the new one seems a good value relatively speaking.

Still waiting for mine to get to my local Apple Store (13 inch, TouchBar, 512 gb, 16gb RAM). Despite all of the negativity, I'm still remaining optimistic about my purchase thus far (granted, I didn't pay full price) but I still won't hesitate to return it if it's not completely to my liking. The few of the Apple Store employees were honest about the battery life issue, and the one guy he's only seen a few people have weird issues & all of them were the 15 inch models.

I was gonna wait for Kaby Lake after reading a few of the first impressions/reviews but changed my mine for a few reasons:

1.) My current Air is getting pretty long in the tooth (see my sig). Really tired of my drive always reaching max capacity and being tied to wall because of the battery.

2.) The Touch Bar pro's won't be coming down in price for a long time. Maybe they'll knock off $200 across the line in the next revision but frankly, I'm more inclined to part with the $200 now then stick with my current machine. People forget that the Retina machines were expensive when the they first came out ($2199 for the 15 inch and & $1699 for the 13 inch, with the same HD 4000 graphics as my Air pushing nearly twice as many pixels, LOL). It was only over time that they became more "reasonable".

3.) Kaby Lake will only be a minor improvement at best over the current machines. Longer Battery life? Sure, maybe 30-45 minutes. Better graphics? Slightly. Faster CPU? Hardly.
The updated iGPU graphics are the only thing I would really want the Kaby Lake chip for..

2015 vs 2016 MBPro

Runs cooler ---- YES
Runs quiter ---- DEFINETELY NOT !!!

New MacBook Pro runs cooler but not quiter than 2015 Mbpro. 2016 MBPro is not distracting but audible ( at 20-30 cm from device..) But MbPro 2014-2015 models fan noise is almost inaudible even you stick your ear to device.. If you want to hear fan noise from 2015 mbpro you have to stick your ears at exact fan location from bottom of device.. At least my experience with several mbpro's... (a lot of 2014-2015, and three 2016 MbPro 15" )

*** Of course I'm talking about idle noise level at 2000-2100 rpm... At high levels new MacBook Pro definetely quiter than old models because of different characteristics of noise... But, almost %90 of my works time MacBook is idle condition.. So, idle noise level is important for me...

Waiting, potentially for a fairly long time now.
Had been waiting to upgrade my 2011 15MBP CTO, but just wasn't overall impressed with the new model.
Things I like:
TouchID
better screen
USB-C longer term
Faster SSD (although the 2015 is quite fast already)

Things I don't:
Touchbar (useless to me as 90% of the time I'm connected to external everything), and I use the Esc key often.
1st release of new model
Loss of magsafe
No 32GB RAM option
soldered SSDs AND SSD pricing as I need a min of 1TB
Thinner at cost of battery life and performance
mediocre/meaningless performance improvements (not Apple's fault RE: CPUs available..)

Indifferent:
keyboard

I picked up a used near maxed 2015 instead, which will hold me over for a bit, and will wait until Apple releases something I have to have as a true upgrade. No point in debating it w/fanboys who are good on 8GB of RAM - the new system just isn't a worthwhile enough upgrade for my usage and preferences.

Suggestion:
Hit the "buy" button.
Then... scroll down and you'll find the 2015 MacBook Pro still there in the active product lineup.
You can buy it "stock" or even customize-to-order if you wish.
(Apple doesn't show the 2015 models UNLESS you click the buy button. They're steering you towards the 2016's)

Or... buy one from the Apple Refurbished models page.

I found my 2015 model on ebay, brand new, for more than $300 off "Apple's pricing".

There are bargains out there if you search for them.

I made the same switch... it's amazing.

That's surprising. I normally can't hear the fans at all (on the new 15"), and only very slightly if I put my ear to the computer. I'd talk to Apple if yours are louder at idle than last year's. They pride themselves on their quiet fans.

I got my 2016 15" base model at launch and am very happy with it. No regrets. No issues and good battery life (I don't game or do photo/video editing). I love the new keyboard, trackpad and touch bar. The screen is awesome. I've never heard the fans and the computer is always cool to the touch. I wouldn't be afraid to purchase one. If it comes with a problem(s) just return it.

I ordered both the 2015 and 2016 models. I really wanted to like the 2016 but the lack of mag Magsafe, no extension cable (they charge you $20) for it now, lack of ports( I don't want to carry around a dongle or anything more than a laptop, especially when I'm buying a high end laptop it should have style, function and CONVENIENCE built in at that price point).

The keyboard on the 2016 is great to type on but it's embarrassingly loud. If you were to use this in a library you would get a lot of strange looks. For a top of the line machine, that's unacceptable. At a price point of double or sometimes more of a comparable PC, the keyboard should work flawlessly.

The track pad on the 2016 is a welcome addition, at first I was a bit skeptical about it but I find it great because the palm rejection works well and the bigger track pad makes gestures more easy and fluent. For example you can swipe back on the right side of the track pad while using your left hand to scroll down on the previous page.

The screen is nice but you only see it's maximum brightness at the maxed out setting and when you have the brightness on the 2015 and 2016 2 notches below max, it's difficult to see a difference in colour although it is noticeable in certain scenes but certainly not a black and white change.

I think the 2016 has a lot of potential and I wanted to like it but I decided to stick with the 2015 as I prefer technology that's been perfected and had al the bugs worked out in comparison to being a early adopter, carry around dongles and having a embarrassingly loud keyboard on a top of the line machine.

What I'm most excited about is the refresh of this version in a year or two once they really perfect the keyboard, battery life, improve the screen enough to make a noticeable difference from the 2015 and hopefully USB C will be more wide spread by then. Also if would be awesome if they created a updated version of Magsafe and made the apple logo glow again. Those little Steve Job touches are pretty awesome.

It should be noted with regard to the keyboard that how loud it is depends entirely on how hard one hits the keys. Those accustomed to a heavy touch will find it loud. Those with a light touch won't. That Apple gives those used to typing with heavy fingers that issue is a legitimate complaint, I think, but many will adapt well.

I'll add about the MagSafe adapter that many of us had trouble with it. The idea was great, but the execution involved weak cable cover that degraded easily and led to the need for early replacement. I also had a problem with it showing it was connected, with a green light, but not being connected, leading to several unplanned battery drains and shutdowns. I don't miss such things.

I was, but upgraded my early 2011 to Sierra, along with a new SSD, 16GB RAM, and new battery... I don't do a whole lot of intensive work, so I think this will easily hold up for another year or two.

Regarding @kmac007's comments about the glowing Apple logo and MagSafe... right on.

Its more of a want instead of need for me so i'm going to wait until its refreshed with Kabylake or whatever will be in the refresh, my 2013 Macbook Pro with the Nvidia 650 still does everything i need it too, but when i do buy i will be doing most of the upgrades.

I bet V2 is going to be sweet. I bet in V2 they won't have the fake speaker grill. I bet they'll figure out how to fit more battery in. By then the touch bar will either be something, or maybe they'll kick touch ID over to the ntMBP.

9 more months*, guys.
<pained/panicked emoticon>
9 more months*, laptop.

Edit: *maybe
