2G -> 4G here.

Pros:
+ Multitasking
+ Great video
+ A camera (Better than nothing on the old models)
+ Another camera (!)
+ FaceTime
+ Retina Display
+ Much better internal speaker
+ Internal microphone
+ Much better performance
+ A4 processor and 256 MB RAM, both roughly twice that of the 2G (2G was underclocked to 533 MHz)
+ 802.11n (Trust me, ten times better than a/b/g)
+ OpenGL graphics support
+ FULL iOS 4.1
+ Lighter/Thinner

Cons:
- Camera isn't great, but I bought an iPod, not a camera
- No IPS display (Not technically a con, but would have been a plus had it been included)
- Only 256 MB RAM (Once again, not technically a con, but would have been a plus had it been included)
- No vibration motor
- Fingerprint-plagued obverse
- Polished steel reverse
- No black square on the back (purely aesthetic concern)

Not Sure Yet:
? Gyroscope
? Image geotagging (seems iffy, even over wifi)
? Could it be too thin?

I've had mine since launch day and still remain absolutely in love. I upgraded from the third gen nano so this is amazing for me. I adore all the apps -- play tons of games, beautiful nightstand clock on business trips, chatting with friends on eBuddy, and a very portable calendar. I love the speakers for when the rental car doesn't have an iPod jack, and for when I don't have an iHome to plug into at the hotel or don't feel like it at home. I love the slim factor, it's such a comfortable fit in my jeans pocket. Of course, I love the genius feature for my music and the Nike app for workouts. Screen is beautiful -- I actually read books and watch videos on this thing.

The battery does freak me out though, I wasn't aware gaming drained it so heavily so I'm always worried about how much time I have left. Unfortunately I have one of the clicking problems, but I can live with that.

To me, this is the ultimate entertainment device. This with my Blackberry and wide angle Canon are all the gadgets I need for any occasion.

i love my ipod!! i dont really get the clicking on the camera i only noticed the other day in the corners a very small light leak but as i have a case it doesnt notice. i think the camera is good! i took this picture the other day and i know my phone cannot get a picture as good as this!

Post-processing makes everything a little better, as I said in another post. ;)

AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE... somewhat "artsy" and "dreamy." Yes, this photo was taken and edited in the iPod Touch.

I'm thinking its time to upgrade my 1st gen 16Gb to a 4th gen 64Gb model... I tried an iPad 64Gb 3G model for a couple weeks but didn't really take to it and used that $$ to get an HP DM4 i5 14" laptop to replace an Atom N270 netbook that I sold = the new i5 laptop only cost me $420 more than what I sold the netbook for this way!

The laptop is 4.3 lbs and I'd rather carry something "portable" that can do all I need vs the iPad that was lighter, slower and limited for my uses... the iPod Touch should fill in the rest of my portable needs nicely as a companion to my new laptop:eek::D:eek:

I've got the same laptop, the dm4. It is a full-flegged laptop with a DVD drive that weighs little more than a netbook. I'm in the same situation that you are- I'm really interested in a 32-gb iPT 4th gen. While I could get a semi usable netbook for the same price, the ipod touch makes so much more sense to me. Anywhere i could take a netbook I could just as easily bring my laptop, which weighs about a pound more. With an iPT, i have a very small computer that can go everywhere with me in my pocket, and can actually do some things that a netbook can't like accelerometer based apps.

Here's why I love my iPod 4G

:p:pI started out with a re-furbished 30G 5th Gen iPod which worked well enough but didn't last very long. Fortunately, I purchased a Four-Square warranty which covered the $119 cost when it stopped working. So, I took that money and got an iPod Touch 3G 64 gig for $349 @ Costco in July which comes w/ a 90 day return policy, no questions asked. Then Apple comes out with the 4G in August...so I returned the 3G and for an additional $30 got the new 4G 64gig for $379 and a 90 day return policy. I really liked the 3G a lot, took it on long flights and other road trips, used 2X reading glasses to watch movies and it worked great. The 4G is even better, faster, better screen and an incredible HD video camera. Tho the still camera isn't great, it has two cameras, one facing in, the other out. But I have a couple of other hi-zoom cameras that are fine. I really don't need a laptop unless I'm doing specific work on pro apps. I would have been remiss to NOT replace the 3G with the 4G. I'll have to tell how I got a brand new iMac for the price of a Mac Mini on another forum. I LOVE Apple...sometimes.

...I've had mine for about 6 days now and so far I like the DM4, working on base there's just some things that I have to be in a winXX OS that don't play well with OS X and so I think this is a keeper and I'll give my whitebook in my signature to my wife = she'll be happy to have a mac notebook to complement the iMac we have in our family office so its a win/win for me also:D

Here in Japan I dis-like the carrier for the iPhone and I'm usually near a hotspot so I'd rather not have a monthly data bill to pay... what got me about the netbook I sold (power wise it was acceptable) but the 1024x600 screen was no fun to use for anything more than a few minutes at a time and I was stuck with that as my only laptop when I went TDY for ~4.5 months:(

The HP is good, light weight, good i5 430M CPU and decent battery life ~5 - 6.5 hours pending settings for only $717 so less what I sold the netbook for it cost me $417 out of pocket!

...back on topic, I can't wait until the base PX gets the 64Gb iPod Touch's in stock = should only be about another week!

Count me as another "happy camper" with the 4g iPod Touch. I am coming from a 5.5g classic to the touch, so this is a huge jump for me. There have been no disappointments or issues for me, so far.
