there is only 1 cover-only for iPad Pros... Apple's smartcover. (unless I'm misunderstanding what is being asked)

Starting with the iPad Air 1 there haven't been any aftermarket smartcover-type covers. I believe that it has something to do with the hinge mechanism of the new smartcovers. Before the Air 1, the hinge consisted of swiveling metal parts, but this new hinge is a magnet with a rubberized coating... I suspect that it is protected by patents.

The current Apple Smart covers are way better than the 1st gen ones. The first models had metal connectors that scratched your iPad and the cover was very thin. This gen is little better. If you look around Amazon and other resellers, they will put them on sale. I grab one for $20.
