I ordered 6s plus from T-Mobile and Apple. Both are showing (as of now) that I'll receive on launch day. Now I'm going to be somewhat torn on which to keep. The jump on demand lease phone or unlocked, fully paid off phone.

If I decide not to keep the Apple order, I'll sell it on here at cost.

Anyone else have 2 ordered so they have a backup plan?

I hate to admit but I do too... I had to order my silver 128GB 6s+ through ATT because I'm a premier customer with next and you can't order that way at Apple directly. I saw that the phone was scheduled to ship 10/16 even though I ordered it at 12:10am PST on the 12th. So I went to Apple and bought a T-Mobile unlocked one full price just like you that one is said to be here launch day.

Before my next sentence, I'll just be clear that this isn't directed at the OP or anyone in particular, so its nothing personal.
That being said, it is a real dick move to order multiple devices that you don't actually want or need... it prevents others from receiving their device and even though it is perfectly within your rights to take advantage of Apple's extremely generous return policy, maintaining their returns system is one of the reasons why they price things at the higher end of the market.

I understand what you are saying but 2 points:

1. I'll sell mine here at cost if I don't keep it. I am not opening the unlocked one if I don't plan on keeping it.

2. They could have ordered at midnight like I did.

I have never had a problem when ordering through apple, so I just ordered one. If I ordered from my carrier, I would be tempted to get a second from apple to be on the safe side.

I did order 2 apple watches initially b.c there was no way to try them before preorders. I did not know if I wanted the 38mm or 42mm.

edit: I did cancel the one I did not want, but I should have just kept it to make money off of it.

+1 million

Over-ordering Apple Watches when they sold out in about 30 seconds? Dick move.

Over-ordering iPhone 6s's when even the most constrained took hours to sell out? Well if you wanted one so bad that over-ordererers* should feel guilty, you should have ordered earlier!!!

*I so hope that's actually a word :p

I just have my ATT premier order and an in store reservation at Apple just in case. ATT has screwed up my shipping in the past and I had to order that way. The Apple store is 2 hours away and I would prefer not to go that route. Plus they can just give my spot away since they don't list a way to cancel. I think the 2 week window won't see any constraints except for plus models.

...maintaining their returns system is one of the reasons why they price things at the higher end of the market.

That is such a speculative statement. Unless you're part of Apple's marketing or finance team you have no way of proving that is true. Apple offers a great return policy because they provide excellent overall customer service, and there's no way to prove that it forces them to charge more for their stuff...that's just ridiculous.

And FYI, I often resell Apple devices for a profit. Call it a "dick move" all you like I simply think it's an easy and clever way for me to make a couple hundred bucks. I ordered 5 Apple watches that I got on release day and sold 4 so my personal watch didn't cost a dime. There will always be a market for resellers of electronics, especially Apple devices, and since Apple loves releasing their products with limited supply almost every time around, I'll partake in that game too. I stay up till 2AM every time a big product release happens, I pay my price of admission. If some Saudi Arabian prince wants to pay $1500 for this extra 6S+ I've got laying around, so be it.

We live in a free world. If the system allows them to order 100 per person, theres nothing wrong with one person ordering 100, or even 1000.

I collect up multiple devices and resell. Nothing wrong. Deal with it.

It's not actually true, the 6s didn't "take hours" to sell out, certain rose gold models in particular had slipped within less than 30 minutes...
... and just to reiterate, its nothing personal and I have no axe to grind in this battle -I set my alarm for 2:45am EST and was hitting that refresh button with the rest of you -I preordered the iPhone of my choice, no problem.

I just order one. Never see the point in ordering multiple devices just to receive on the first day. Seems a little excessive for a phone.

Of course it is built into their pricing model, I don't need to be an Apple Insider to know that... you think all those returns don't cost anything and Apple are just eating it up for free? I love Apple, but I'm not blinkered enough to think that they do things for free because they love me so much.

I preordered with Apple before in-store reservation was available. I went back to reserve one in-store, since I prefer to pick it up, but will probably end up going with the phone that's being shipped to me. My reserved phone will just go to someone else on Friday or Saturday.

Built into their pricing model? Of course it is. One of the reasons they charge what some consider a premium for their product? Doubtful. Last time I checked flagship Androids retail for a similar amount sans contract so I'd argue they really don't even charge much of a premium compared to other manufacturers with far inferior return policies. But again, it's pointless speculation that neither of us have the correct intel to really know anything about.

Because the difference between "building into the price" and "charging a premium for" is.............???

Also, most models can be ordered on today Apple.com a week later with 8/25 delivery. 6 plus a rose gold excluded.

I do order multiple units. 2 gold 6s because I'm a paranoid consumer. I fear my main unit will have some defects so I order another just in case so I don't have to wait later to exchange it.

I always buy at least two Apple devices when purchasing new. Their quality control is bad. Inevitably there is always some issue with the screens - be it dead pixels, dust, or whatever. Never occurred to me to purchase two phones, however.

Just purchased a 5S not too long ago and the first one had a dead pixel, the genius saw and agreed and exchanged it for another. The second one had a weird "pinch" effect along the top edge of the screen as well as clicked when the glass was pressed. Again the genius agreed and swappedd it for a third that had a perfect screen but also had two large nicks in the top chamfered edge. I kept it because the screen is what I cared for most, and who knows if the next phone I exchanged it for would have been okay.

I've had the same struggles with iPads. Until and unless Apple gets its quality control under control, I will continue doing what I do. Don't care what anyone else thinks.

Are you looking at Sprint by chance?
Just clicking through models. All carriers.

They are updating.

Yesterday the Verizon 16 GB Rose gold was sold out and the 64 GB wasn't.. Today the 16GB says 9/25 and the 64GB says 2-3 weeks.. Opposite of when I looked yesterday
