Which is fine if you want subsidized prices. I personally don't mind paying the extra price for something I want so I'll buy it whenever I want. I can always end my contract completely by paying the EFT anyway.

As someone else said... why so negative?
Possibly down to the amount of posts regarding people moaning about how AT&T\O2\whoever weren't going to offer discounts to existing iPhone customers (ala 2g->3G), so they could upgrade to the 3GS, and making them honour their contract. Of course, I'm just guessing :)

I'm doing this for the grandchildren!

Sad I know, but I want to have one of every model! Also going to keep my last b(i)p phone so that I can show my unbelieving grandchildren how awful life was before Apple came to our rescue :p

What is annoying is that O2 (Apple's partner in England) offer a minimum 18 month contract. This means that I was pretty much forced to buy my 3GS outright. Next time round my contract will be up for renewal so I will be able to get the next one as an upgrade, but the likelihood is that the one after that (iPhone 5 for those of you who have lost track) will need to be bought outright again!

Ho-hum!

p.s. for those of you who not in the know (which is probably most of you as I just made this up) ‘b(i)p’ stands for ‘before iPhone’ a dark period of history where nothing of any import happened :)

I plan on buying as my contract permits.

Likewise. I've only bought one iPhone to date, and it wasn't @ launch, but wouldn't prematurely buy another unless it was a truly mind-blowing must-have and it's within the budget. Otherwise, when the contract permits. :D

i didnt' buy the 3gs! and the year i got the 2g was like 2 months before the 3g came out. so i plan on buying every other year!

Yes, it's easy enough to do with 5 lines in a family plan and upgrade swap on just two iPhones.

It also means it's worthless to get Applecare and better to use AmEx to double the warranty for free if necessary.

As long as the value of the current gen is fairly close to what the new one costs, it is not that expensive to remove all doubt of what you are missing by buying the new one.

Me. I am impressed with the direction that Apple has taken with the iPhone over the three models. At first I wasn't quite impressed with the 3GS upgrade, but now that I have it, it was definitely worth the upgrade. While there are many more ways that the iPhone can improve, the iPhone has become my primary source for info and entertainment, and it will stay that way for awhile.

not sure. i'm getting my 3rd, but i also broke my 3G, so i am upgrading (at higher cost) from 2g to 3gs.

This thread should be ... who plans on whining to break their 2 year contract every year?

I plan on buying as my contract permits.

Many of us have a contract that permits us to buy new phones every 12 months. No whining involved.. or whining about the whiners... or assuming too much with too little information.

Where did she say it was?

saying the thread should be named "who plans on whining to break their 2 year contract every year?" insinuates that everyone that gets an iPhone annually is whining to break a contract. In luding me who would buy pre-paid and not break a contract.

So there's your answer, I'm sure she'll give you a big hug fir rushing to her defence.

My hero :)
