What I'd like to see is someone brush the polished steel finish. A brushed finish could look great.
I've thought about it, but I'm not sure what to do with the curves. Regular watch cases with defined edges are easier to plan around, because you can have the brush lines all go the same direction on the same surface.

Maybe the AW could brush okay if all the strokes are in the same direction -- either longitudinal or transverse -- across the whole case. But those corners, where a brush line from the face meets a brush line from the side would have the lines meet at an angle… the "V" where they'd meet would look weird to me.

good to know, mine is a bit dull by this point... wonder what my alternatives are as this thing u mention is certainly not available here.
Any technique for polishing metal would work. Just don't use something like diamond paste because it'll be hard enough to attack the coating on the sapphire.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. I'm not sure how one would deal with the corners if brushing the case.

I polish my watch about once a month with Mothers Metal Polish. I love how it comes out looking like new again after 15 minutes of work. To me, that's one of the big advantages over the Sport model. On the sport, once it is scratched, it stays that way forever.

And don't worry about the glass when you polish. I always rub the glass inadvertently but it doesn't ever leave marks. Sapphire is one step down from diamond in hardness so I don't think any polish is going to hurt anyway.

Was sceptical until I tried some Autosol a while ago. Came up sparkling.

Anyone think the black stainless steel apple watch will show up more when it scratches?
I have one, and recently (after 6 months) found the first very tiny scratch... It's nearly impossible to see, because the coating isn't just a surface coating. One of the best features of the SB-SS actually (besides the killer look)

Attempted to get the scratches out with a Cape Cod polishing cloth. Not only was I not able to get the scratches out, my hands and work area now reek of that polishing compound. Double fail.

Those must have been some deep scratches if you can't remove them. That cloth made a night and day difference on my watch and my fiancé's

I didn't worry about the glass (obviously I didn't intentionally rub the glass) it took about 2-3 minutes per side and I spent about a minute on the bottom. I definitely applied a lot of pressure (hand cramp after doing 2 watches). I don't think I did any sort of damage during the process. Both watches are functioning perfectly and look wonderful.

Are the engravings on the bottom still intact?

I've been meaning to do this to my SS which is pretty scratched up at this point. But can't seem to find the right stuff to do it with in the UK, also I don't know what I'm looking for aha.

The engravings are still perfectly intact. These polishing solutions being talked about in this thread only remove a micro layer of stainless steel. I doubt you'd ever run off the engravings

Did you all cut the cloth down? I have a 2 pack but the cloths are pretty large and I worry about it getting on the sapphire glass? Did you just rub it like a normal cloth and on average how long per side?

If you are worried about the glass, use painters tape to seal off all the parts you don't want accidentally polished.

Finally used my Cape Cod kit and very happy with the results. Practically a new watch again.

I've never polished mine. If I hold the watch right up to my eyes I can see some hairline scratches but otherwise it looks OK to me and I haven't seen the need to polish it yet.

Will those polishing cloths also work on the stainless link band?
Better to use a mildly abrasive pad to maintain the brushed finish of Apple's bracelet. Use something like a Scotch-Brite pad and gently rub in the same direction as the grain of the finish.

Different pads give different grain, some more coarse and some fine. I haven't experimented with brushing or refinishing any of my watch bracelets, though.

If it's just dirty, wash it. Doesn't matter how; you can wash it in the shower or the sink. If you put it in an ultrasonic cleaner, take the bracelet off and drop it in. Don't put the watch body in the cleaner machine.
