The only time I got a 16GB was on the new iPad, and I regretted not getting at least 32GB. I made sure to get 32GB on the iPhone 5 (didn't think my needs would justify spending $100 more for 64GB).

Completely depends on how you use your iPhone. It's not one-size-fits-all, which is why there are 3 sizes.

To get a ball park idea of how much storage you might need calculate:

how many songs you'll immediate load on your iPhone by 3MBs.

how many videos by 1GB

how many non-graphic intense apps by 200MB

how many graphic intense apps by 1GB

how many photos by 1MB

leave 10% for overhead and another 20% for future use.

Yes i regret it and i have to return and get the 32GB. My 4S is 16GB im out of space. i want to be able to add ALL my pics and music on it and i cant do that. im not sure what i was thinking :-/

Again like others said, it depends on your needs.

My wife was constantly coming close to having only 1GB left. And she uses Garmin app (2.2 GB app). And iPhone won't let her update.

I looked at her phone. She's got over 5000 photos from the past year (yes we have a newborn and a 2 year old so she likes taking pics).

I simply asked her is it really necessary to have 5000 photos when most of the ones she likes she posted on Facebook anyways. Plus with photo stream.

So I just kept photos from the past 3 months for her and re synched it. Bamm. She's got 5GB leftover on her 16GB 4S model. She occasionally shots videos but that not much (maybe had 1GB of video on phone which I transfer to her computer from time to time as backup).

She doesn't play games. Has the basic apps women like (facebook, yelp, tripadvisor, pin interest etc). Has about 1GB of music.

So 16GB is enough for her.

Me on the other hand with 4GB music, 10-15GB of apps. I need 32GB iPhone.

I actually have over kill tom tom and garmin. Those 2 GPS apps alone take over 3.5 GB plus real racing and things. You can deplete your remaining GB left quickly.

16GB here. No regrets. I like keeping my phone lean and mean and restore once a month to keep performance high.

For the next iPad I will probably go 32GB though.

I bought a 16gb. This thread has made me a bit remorseful for choosing the 16gb but I don't think it will be a big problem. I don't listen to too much music on my iDevices, so that won't be a big problem. I download lots of apps, but always end up deleting a lot of them.

1) Keep only essential music, videos, apps on the phone.
2) Keep other stuff on the dropbox app.
3) Transfer taken photos/videos to a computer every so often.

If I do this, I figure 16gb should be more than enough space.

Itunes match + decent Data allowance is a must if you go for the 16GB model, I've used this combination since Itunes match arrived and it works well for me!

I have 16GB now and between 203 photos, 66 songs, 125 apps, and 4 videos -- and I still have 3.5 GB left. I decided to stick with the 16GB.

I currently have 12.4GB available on my 16GB 4S.

I don't have music, movies, TV, podcasts or any rich content saved to the device. I also don't keep pictures on the device, one they upload to Photo Stream, then downloaded into iPhoto I delete them.

Anything I need I stream, therefore, 16GB is great for me.

Definitely not, I don't really use is as a method of storage (music/video etc). A quick look at my usage shows 6.6GB still available of my 16GB iPhone 4.

I went 16gb for iPhone 4. Regretted it every day. So for the new iPad and iPhone 4S.....I made sure to get 64gb. I still run out of space. So for iPhone 5 I obviously went 64gb. I really wish 128gb was an option. But, all I can do it get the biggest offered.

I've had a few iPhones which have all been 16gbs. If an iPhone is your only device, than it might not be enough. But seriously, I don't know many people who use an iPhone as a their only multimedia device. I would never watch movies on my iPhone it's just too small, that's what the iPad is for. If I was to listen to music on my iPhone I use spotify, since I have an actual ipod for my music. As far as apps and photos 16 gb's is plenty.

I used to get 16. But with photos and apps getting bigger, I now get 32. My ip4 was 16 and it was barely enough. And I only had about 100 songs. Just photos and apps took up my space. But with iCloud and Photostream, you can manage and make it work. Me, I'm gonna stick with 32 and not have to worry about it.

I currently have a 32gb iPhone 4 and will be getting the 16gb iPhone 5. Looking at my current usage, I have 5.4gb worth of music and 111 apps on there with no photos or movies. Since my 32gb iPad will handle the majority of games, movies, and photos, I think 16gb is fine. Of course like others said, if you plan on using just the iPhone, you might want to get something bigger.

16GB

As others said it depends on how you use it. For me it's apps and photos only. No stores music (spotify), video or games. I keep only frequently used apps installed and for photos, with photostream I download all photos to iTunes usually every Sunday night and move them to an external drive. Now with shared photo streams I think the 30 day purge/expiration is gone, so I hope to create "albums" of my flagged photos and have them always accessible.

I hate clutter in my life and that includes my iPhone.

I had a 16GB 3GS and 4...both felt cramped to me. I had to juggle which apps I wanted on the device, and clear off music regularly. I have a 32GB 4S which has been just right. I use most of the space, but never felt like space was tight. I've got 2.5GB left now, but only because I haven't offloaded my camera roll in like 8 months. (the photos are copied courtesy of iCloud, but some videos haven't been copied to my computer yet....once I clear my camera roll, I can get another 2-3 GB back).

If it weren't for Rdio and iTunes Match, though, I'd likely want a 64 GB version.

I got a 16gb

-I have a few gigs of apps, and I only have ~4-5 games on my iphone (once I beat em, I delete em...even the greatest iphone games are still throwaways to me...except for Tris and few puzzle games)
-I keep about 1 gig of photos, and I might take a few more when I got our....I always download when I get home and they are photostreamed anyhow.
-I dont video anything, I never edit anything and I am too ADD to watch them.
-I keep music on my iphone because I can, since my car has its own ipod and my work is in a share area with a group computer for pandora.
-I'd rather buy an apple TV,
-I'd rather be halfway towards the 5s,
-I'd rather not feel like I should skimp getting a nice case or two,
-I'd rather feel like I have to "be careful" with my 200 dollar phone rather than "paranoid" about my nearly 1/3 of a thousand dollar phone,
-I'd feel more comfortable without a case
-I'd rather make choices about the music I take rather than just dump a bunch of stuff on my phone, etc etc...

I really only have about 4 gigs of actual STUFF on my phone. Then again, I am the kind of guy who only keeps 1 page of apps, limits my folders to 8 apps, because I hate having a bunch of apps I never use taking up visual space and limits himself on things so I learn to be more thoughtful about my choices (yes, that includes apps and music. I try to keep my life simple)

but thats me.

I preordered a 16GB but I use an iPad for movies/music etc and a MBP for documents so it depends on the devices you have and what you want to do with your iPhone!

As the the person that jail broke......dont do it and you wont take up room!!!

DONT FORGET! If you are a match subscriber ios6 allows STREAMING of your itunes collection. you no longer have to download music to your device while using match. So essentially if you are a subscriber music should not take up any space.

I don't get that. Won't game centre store that information. Does that mean I would have to start the game all over again?. What bull! Even games like jet pack joyride? Are you sure it won't remember?

If it has iCloud support it will.

However many games don't...

Some games that do are Scribblenauts Remix, Cut the Rope, Where's My Water?, etc.

Game Center doesn't actually store the data...it only stores what games you've played and achievements you unlocked.

Thats it.

I've gone for the 64GB this time around, when I got my iPhone 4 I was happy with the 16GB but when i got my iPad i went bigger for movie storage and opted for a 32GB (which is always full) so now when I look at my games collection most of them are knocking on 1GB big, then with photos and videos, music and other general apps I can seen 16GB not offering enough space for my needs but that's not to say that what isn't for me wouldn't be for someone else.
