I swapped my 11 pro for a 12 with zero $ changeover, I wanted something lighter which it is and all black, around the same size with bigger screen. But:
I do miss the telephoto lense and the screen brightness outside mainly, it’s 20c to 30c plus all year here, the black is a huge smudge magnet and the aluminium sides like a bar of soap lol. I don’t even feel safe using it in the house with no case.
Would like the extra camera features. Seriously thinking of getting a pro and passing the 12 to a family member who has a XR.

Anyone else?

I had the 12 Pro and didn’t like it cause it was too heavy. Switched to the 12 and what a difference in weight. I don’t miss the telephoto because I didn’t use it much. I installed a frosted back protector from Slick Wraps and with that get no smudges. Whenever I pick up my wife’s 12 Pro now it feels so heavy that makes be glad that I switched to the 12.

Can you post a photo of the back?

Now that they’ve used OLED on all the models I might get the non-pro model next time I upgrade unless they only put promotion on the pro models (or the rumors of the LiDAR Scanner coming to the entire line up prove to not be true).

Not exactly a regret, but I should’ve kept the 12 Pro the first time I had it. I “downgraded” to the 12 for weight purposes and value per dollar...expecting to upgrade again this year if 120Hz comes out. However, I’m over the annual upgrade gig and I come dangerously close to 256GB when I add a couple shows/movies to my phone. So, going back to a 512GB Pro or Pro Max tomorrow and hope to hold on to it for a couple years at least.

How do the feel/design of the phones compare?

I do have to admit that every iPhone feels premium and even aluminum has its merits over stainless steel. The cameras being integrated into a single piece of glass is particularly striking on both models. In fact, this is the first time I don’t really feel like consumers are losing anything by stepping down to the 12 since the all-screen design is the same without any notable drawbacks.

As far as feeling, I noticed the weight difference right away. It’s not completely drastic, but enough for me and my girlfriend to both say, “Oh wow. That’s definitely lighter.” I’m a little odd. I prefer the matte aluminum rails of the 12 and the frosted glass of the Pros. I also prefer the 3 camera look to the 2 camera design. Once you have it, it’s kind of hard to not notice that space where a third camera “should” be.

Yup, smartphone manufacturers have become the masters of making the number of cameras on a phone a status symbol.

Even if a consumer doesn’t need the telephoto lens, having three cameras signifies to the world that it’s a Pro model. Flossy Carter jokes about this, saying having two cameras is being in “peasantville.”

I’m with you there on wanting the aluminum rails with a frosted back, since that would make the iPhone entirely matte instead of having stainless steel or a shiny glass back covered in fingerprints.

I can’t say I do to be honest. I could have gotten the 12 Pro for just a little more money but made the conscious decision on getting the 12. No complaints really apart from FaceID being slow at times. Decent phone.

I’d say most people my age don’t care about the number of cameras in terms of looks though. It’s probably more a trend issue for teenagers and those in their early 20’s.

Mmm, I find fid on my iPad Pro 11” misses more than my iPhone, probably as it’s further away, I can’t remember the last time it failed on my 12, you might need to try setting it up again in a few positions.

Yeah I should just stick it out with the 12, and remember why I got it, just got AirPods Max too lol.

Yeah I probably should add another face scan to be honest but never seem to remember to do it. I think if the standard iPhones are as good as the 12 is from now on, I can’t see myself ever opting for a Pro model, just can’t see the need personally. Hope you enjoy the AirPods, I got the Soundcore Q30’s which are at the budget end, but loving them. Also got an iPad Air, so been an expensive few weeks.

Yeah not wrong

I had a chuckle because I've been to Indonesia and stayed in the houses of ordinary people in the Philippines and Papua New Guinea, also because one of my bosses here in Australia has just retired at the age of 53, she is absolutely loaded and has an iPhone 11 non-Pro. My other boss has an iPhone 6. It was a joke by Flossy Carter, though if people really feel that way about having just two cameras I would laugh in their face.

Not to mention that the XR, 11 and 12 non-Pro are Apple's major cash cow and consistently the bestselling smartphone in the world. All those people thought the price difference was not worth bothering to wait longer for the money to buy a Pro.

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered an iPhone snob in the real world, I’ve only seen them commenting online from time to time. I’ve certainly never had anyone mention my iPhone only has 2 cameras. The guy who owns the company I work for owns 9 Porsches some of which he races, has several homes across Europe and South Africa and he uses a 2017 iPad Pro and an iPhone XS lol. Like you, I would laugh in anyone’s face if they judged me on the type of phone I had as it’s meaningless lol.

Not sure what going to Indo has to do with anything, for the record I’ve been 12 times all over Indo Surfing, places no tourists would ever go.

Some people are not that into tech or what is in a phone, XR and 11 were a bigger screen without going to a max, that’s why they sold so well.

I bought 12 because I wanted the most mainstream model, I like for example that XR and 11 are kept relevant while XS is largely forgotten. Coming from XR and even comparing to 12 Pro, the weight difference is immediately noticeable, it's much more pleasant to hold. I could get pro but I'm happy I didn't.

This is ridiculous. Why care about the number of cameras if you don’t use them? Who gives a crap what others think of the number of cameras on your smartphone 🤦🏻‍♂️

Your only concern should be if you miss a camera because you’d make use of it, not because of the aesthetic of the back of the phone...

It is stupid that a heavy phone (and watch) is considered premium and light one a toy. Doesn't make sense. I have the 12 pro and if it was an option I would prefer aluminium over steel.

First of all, neither of us stated whether or not we used them. It was an aesthetic comment. By your logic, why care about a car that has 4 doors instead of 2? There are single people who never taxi a soul/use their backseat and still prefer the look of a sedan (335i) vs a coupe (335i). People are entitled to their preferences. Drink some water.

The aesthetics of the device are well down the list of demands I have when I make the choice in all honesty. The iPhone 12 delivers all the relevant features I want and was already overpriced for what it is IMHO. Although the 12 Pro wasn’t much more, I just felt the 12 was the better option.

That’s all good and well. Ralfi’s rant was about not caring what others thought and useful application. It was a soapbox piece with no relevance to the conversation that I and another member were having. I prefer the look of the 3 cameras. Always have since the 11 Pro. However, I made note that I bought the 12. The only reason I was going back to the Pro was for the 512GB configuration. Context.

Just like how the vertical camera bump let people know owners had an iPhone X, a large part of having three cameras is so that people know it’s a Pro model even with a case on it.

I suppose a telephoto lens is useful to have on hand for those occasional zoom shots.
