Is there any lag or UI/animation stuttering on the Air? I have a iPad 2 I was thinking of trading in at Best Buy but i've read others on MR mention that they were surprised that iOS 7 UI and animations was not perfectly smooth on the Air.

Yikes. Couldn't wait to upgrade from the iPad 2 / iPad mini when the next generations were announced. Good riddance to 512MB of RAM and a low res display.

Personally I see the 2 as the 2nd best ipad to date. Only the Air is better although there are plenty of screen problems associated with it at the moment. Even Apple continuing to sell the 2 tells us how well they did in doing everything right with the 2.

Daughter needed a tablet and I needed more RAM so I gave her my 2 and got an Air. Both of us are very happy. The Air is faster, lighter and has somewhat better screen subjectively. Both very nice devices.

I just gave up my iPad 2 and upgraded to a 128 gig Air. I'd probably still be using it happily if I had bought it with more memory but I didn't realize when buying it how much I'd love it and how much storage I'd want.

My son has my 64 gig iPad 3 and now he/his girlfriend also have the iPad 2 (My goal is to be the MIL from heaven). They live in such a small house that wifi is never a problem with the iPad 2. Since I was visiting them on the other side of the planet when the release date for the iPad Air was announced I left it with them and had to go a full week w/o an iPad. Left no doubt in my mind that I didn't want to return to a life w/o an iPad.

I still have my 32 gb iPad 2 from 2011. For what I use it for - mostly netflix, some browsing, some reading - there isn't that much point to an upgrade. Still runs plenty fast, still holds a good charge. Still the lightest and thinnest 9.7" ipad except the air.

Thanks you just helped me make my decision to keep my iPad 2 and not justify the Air. :)

I was still happy with my iPad 2 for my use (web, Pages, Angry Birds type games) until I dropped it this week and shattered the screen. Still usable (typing this post on it), but will probably sell and replace instead of trying to fix it. Will probably go to iPad 4 instead of Air for three reasons - the 4 is a lot cheaper right now, my current Logitech keyboard case still fits the 4 (saves $100 in not buying a new keyboard), and the 4 should serve my needs fine.

Or I may just ignore the cracked screen of the 2...

If you can use a $100 gift card, the Target Black Friday deal for the Ipad Air is only a little more than a refurbished Ipad 4. Of course that still doesn't get you a new keyboard.

I saw that price at Target and it's pretty tempting, but I'm not normally one to fight the Black Friday battle. Would hate to do that and find out the store only had 5...

And you're right about the keyboard case - would hate to have to buy a new one and I need a keyboard.

The iPad 2 was decent, however, I won’t miss the reloading tabs on Safari nor the slow processor once I receive my iPad Air

Love my iPad 2.
But im thinking of buying an iPad rmini or Air to replace it.
Dont know what to do with my iPad 2. Either i sell it or i give it to my mom, shes 73 and should have an iPad.

Posting on my 2 right now. I just got my wife a mini, I'm not going to use it because I don't want to know what I'm missing.

I'll probably replace it when the next model arrives.

Losing all the value of your once 500$ tablet is enough to get me to upgrade ever one to two years. Putting that extra 300-400 towards something new instead of dishing out 500$ If it does I fact die on you seems better to me.
I did like my 2 until I saw a retina ipad.

The surprising the is every once in awhile the universe throws you a bone (Target bought my original iPad for $200 a few weeks ago).

Since the iPad 2 is still sold as a new product I'd imagine there are still some opportunities to get a good resale value on it.

I love my 64GB iPad 2. It charges so fast compared to the later models.

After playing around with an iPad Air yesterday, I had to break down and buy one. It is so fast, and the retina display is so much more vibrant and crisp than the iPad 2 display. I'm very happy with the upgrade.

I love mine. No issues at all with it. I would like an Air at some point but this does exactly what I want so I see no reason to upgrade yet. I'm a happy camper.

Our April 2011 iPad 2 is still the main tablet in our house, but will be picking up an Air for Christmas.

Always thought the 3 and 4 were compromises that shouldn't have had to be made - I don't want my tablet thicker and heavier, I want it more portable! The Air, in my opinion, is the first true successor to the iPad 2. That fact that the 2's also still being sold is a testament to its great design.

Even at almost three years old, it still runs the vast majority of the latest apps very well. Sure, Safari crashes sometimes, but at the end of the day, for how long it's lasted, it's great value for money.

I love my refurbished ipad2. Even with a nice crack down the middle of the screen it's works flawlessly and I have absolutely no reason to spend money on a new one. Works perfect for what I need it for (web browsing, Spotify and netflix). It's completely replaced my MacBook Pro 1st gen.

I was going to pickup an Air and decided to keep my Apple refurbed 32GB iPad 2. It still works and looks like new and it doesn't feel cheap. Besides Apple made my decision a lot easier by continuing to sell it so who knows how many more updates this will get? :)
