If the iPad gets a more "tablet-like", it will be huge. If it still just a huge iPod touch, huge disappointment.

Apple takes things slowly and gets it right. I expect noticeable improvements but nothing extraordinary.

What precisely does more "tablet-like" mean? Is this a euphemism for more "desktop-like" similar to Honeycomb?

I think people who expect lock screen widgets are going to be disappointed.

Generally Apple gives a handful of tentpole features with each new OS release.

What seems realistic are a new notification system, Safari enhancements that could include tabbed browsing, some new 'cloud' syncing with OS X, and perhaps a new multitasking UI.

They'll sell tabbed browsing as some great new feature when we've been using the feature in other browsers forever.

A new UI is a guarantee. The current iOS is about 4 years old right? I mean seriously...

i have very low expectations for iOS 5 at this point. every update has been worthwhile so far, but not earth shattering really. small steady steps are safest.

i'm not going to get any of my hopes up.

I'm crossing my fingers foe a new UI.
One with an App drawer so I don't need 15 screens of icons for my apostle.

So? Who cares? I'm seriously asking. It's not like you have to believe them, or pay Apple money whenever they say something you don't like. I don't get it.

I hope it's a complete over haul.

YouTube app sucks
UI is stale
Option to have flash would be nice
Under the hood changes for faster and more efficient should be a given

Would make me love my iPad 2 so much more.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and I'll probably say it in the future also ;)

At some point in time Apple are going to have to address the problem that 1 model of tablet will not satisfy everyone.

Like almost everything else in life, Cars, HiFi's, Computers, Bikes, Houses, Food, Drink, Cloths, Watches, Calculators, TV's, Irons, etc etc etc................

Different models are made to appeal to different consumers with different tastes and needs.
Apple will have to address this in time as 1 model in 1 size will not be able to keep your 90 year old grand mother, and your IT specialist etc etc satisfied forever.

But,but Steve said that in the post PC era people have no need for silly things like file system access or expandable storage support. Everything should be synced with iTunes an anyone who dares to sell goods or services via iOS should give their firstborn to Apple.

They make six different models of tablet. Finite differentiation is not the same as 'no differentiation'.

They also make several other computing products to address other needs.

I am sure Apple will be the first to admit that they do not make a product for every niche. They would probably also assert that at some point increased differentiation fails to make business sense for them and will not make all things for all people. This is their prerogative.

[herp derp here's another strawman from alex2792]

Anyone expecting a complete overhaul better get ready for disappointment. Every iOS update - every one - has been about slow but steady improvement. A few new key features at a time. They take their time and get it right. Slow but steady improvement. Count on it.

Wow. I have tried holding, swiping, everything I could think of to delete the podcasts. Obviously I missed this one. All I could find via search was "connect to iTunes".

Thanks for the tip!!!

YouTube sucks sucks sucks on he iPad. My year old android phone runs YouTube like a champ, why the he'll cant an iPad released two months ago have so much trouble with it?

If apple doesn't fix this bs I'm selling. ios5 better have serious under the hood improvements because web browsing is a shame compared to android as well. Its embarrassingly slow.

Lol and what exactly is that bad in youtube app? Im not trolling i just want to know, because it works fine with me, and im playing videos, searching and commenting....

I think everyone who complains about the UI being 'stale' is just bored and wants something new to look at. Well, too bad. It still works great and looks great. If you're bored of iOS, go and buy an android device. We'll see you back here for iOS 5 or 6 when you're bored of android.

I don't think iOS5 is going to be a huge upgrade from iOS 4. Just more of the same. Apple seems to be playing itnsafe and why Rick the boat on something so successful as iOS. Translation: a minor update

Huge as in... even more than 666MB? :)

I will say it really, really, really, really needs at the very least a proper notification system. For what little the notification system does now I've found even that to be buggy and unreliable. Half of my apps no longer ever notify me. Fantastic.

It has nothing to do with being bored with the UI.

I get so much buffering. Excellent wifi signals

"well, too bad"
Lol you're pathetic. When apple innovates fanatics looks you won't shut up about it and when they sit on their asses and twiddle their thumbs you say too bad as if you're making the decisions. I bet if the UI does change you'll be frothing in the mouth with joy telling everyone how amazing Apple is.

Oh and why would I get an android tablet when the ipad is the best tablet on the market. It isn't perfect, but still the best.

That's why it's almost to late for iPad competition,no one has anything close to the app store, and with so many "MILLIONS" sold, those folks are out of the
Market, so in the end, :apple: wins, and wins big, jus sayin!:apple:

My wishlist:

1) Compete redesign of notification system

2) iPad - iPhone specific pairing system (share notifications, media libraries, reply to texts from iPad, etc.)

3) "Today" screen

4) Wireless sync

5) Notification for emails received

Ditto.

The ipad UI needs a wholesale redesign IMO. Right now iOS is basically a glorifies app launcher and trails both Android and WebOS in functionality. The multitasking is simply awful, notification deficiencies are well documented and safari needs tabs and plugin support like yesterday.

Fully agree. The notification system is horrid.

Totally agree. I understand the iOS design on the iPhone but for the iPad it feels like a bunch of bookmarks on the home screens and that's it. There's so much real estate, why not make the most out of it.
