Of course it will sell out. Apple plans it that way. Makes for great press.

That's funny. We both typed the same thing at the same time!

This issue is discussed all the time. Has their been any demonstrable proof that Apple intentionally holds back production on any device in the last couple of years to build up hype?

For sure Apple wants to see initial lines, but after a weekend I would bet Tim Cook wants things shipping in 24 hours as quickly as possible.

Given past statements on iPhone and iPad that they would have sold more if they could make them any faster, until someone finds a smoking gun document pointing to Apple intentionally limiting production, the only intelligent thing to assume is that ramping down and ramping up production is complicated and in that ramping, supply and demand goes out of balance.

This will be a massive launch. Apple has never been about one day sales numbers. They actually increase in sales as time goes on. Many electronics companies are jealous of this trend. The ipad 3 will sellout fast and this will get Apple more press than just a big launch number. They will slowly trickle in stock and this will create a frenzy and keep demand up. Also if the first ipad 3's are defective they limit there recall risk.
