I use my macbook as my only computer. but then again i am 15. there is no need for another, i do want to get an external monitor though...

After all of the experiences I've had with OS X freezing on my own Mac (while Windows is solid as a rock on it) as well as other Macs, I can't trust OS X to do anything "serious" because you never know if it will simply lock up and all of your work will be gone.

Just like you, but maybe to a lesser extent, I don't trust my MacBook completely although it's not even a month old. Having seen 1 MacBook experiencing so many problems and two completely new MacBook having problems out of the box, I find it hard to trust my current MacBook. I always use it with expecting at some point I'll be experiencing problems again. Only time will, I just want to be wrong.

My Windows XP computers on the other hand have been rock solid.

Although I like OS X a bit more than Windows XP, I am not going to say that one is better than the other. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Watching Flash video using IE on Windows will not drive the CPU nuts. Try the same thing on a Mac, and the fan will go crazy. Working with multiple opened windows on OS X is, however, a way better experience.

If you can hook up an external monitor, a keyboard and a mouse, by all means, do it. It will much more comfortable for your neck. You'll also be able to put them side by side and have two screens to work with.

When working on assignments, and needing to read multiple documents from multiple sources, two screens are better than one screen. I also have Activity monitor running all the time on the "secondary" screen. If I hear a huge increase in fan noise, I can have a quick check to see what application is to be killed.

It seems like you have a huge hard drive. Id just put away the PC and use boot camp ubless your gonna get into anything like gaming

Yeah, OS X does have its positive points.

I know I'm going to get killed for saying this, but I like Vista better than XP and OS X.

Why? Well, with SP1 and the newest drivers, everything in Vista now runs faster for me on the same hardware than XP ever did.

Plus you get all of the neat hardware GPU features. I mean, when I play video (DVD, blu-ray, H.264 in Quicktime!) the GPU does all of the work. It gets properly upscaled, deblocked, hardware color correction, etc. So my 2GHz Santa Rosa based C2D hangs around 2% CPU use during DVD playback while my 2.16GHz C2D MacBook hovers around 25% CPU use and the video doesn't even look as good.

I've honestly never had Vista crash on that HP. Nor did XP give me any issues when I ran it on there. I honestly haven't had a single lockup with it or moment of instability. Much the same way XP and Vista ran rock solid on my MacBook when I had them installed.

For me its all about OS X's instability and the build quality of the machines. When you have good hardware, Windows is simply more stable.

It's your right. Whatever makes your happy (Russell Peters).

That being said, and to get back on track, the OP asked who was using a MacBook as his/her only computer and if he/she misses Windows. The OP wanted to get assurance that he can give up his Windows computer. OP did not ask for Windows bashing LOL.

@OP: (This is only my personal opinion) According to the description of your needs, you'll most likely be fine with a MacBook as your only computer. If anything goes bad, you can still use your wife's computer while yours is being repaired. Moreover, since you have VMWare, you can run Windows if you really need to. So, if your PC is going to sit around and not being used at all, better sell it (if you can) or give it to someone who will make good use of it. If you cannot give it to someone or sell it, it can always be used as a central file storage location. Load it up with lots of storage space, and you have yourself a cheap file server.

I've had my MacBook since late 06 (Core2Duo @2.0). Its more or less my primary machine. The only thing I use my PC for is playing games on occasion.

I've had the '06 MacBook in my sig since launch day and it has been my main computer ever since.

it has served me well.

I rarely experience any instability.

some times when I have several virtual machines open in parallels and about 8 other programs open it slows down a bit but that is the only issue I've had.

honestly I think it is leopard's fault.

I may go back to tiger sometime soon to remedy that problem.

I still have a Dell laptop which I use solely for playing music. I tried and tried again with iTunes, but it's rubbish! foobar is the best thing about PC AFAIC. Everything else I do with my MacBook, and I have the Dell laptop out of the way, and control it via Ultra VNC and Screen Sharing.

I'm a student studying abroad so I only own one computer, and that's my macbook.

I will get a desktop when I get my own apartment some day, though that may be quite a while. xD

Call me unlucky and this isn't a rip on the MB but I had two different units as primary machines and each has had battery/charging problems, one with a logic board problem and one HD died. They seemingly have a built-in clock with the problems showing up at 13-16 months into their lifecycle. Others in my company using them have similar stories.

In all fairness, when they worked they worked well.

I bought the high-end MacBook configuration back in November, right after Jobs refreshed it with the Santa Rosa architecture, I believe. Macs have been my main computer ever since I got the iBook G4 which got stolen at school, in September. Had to get by with my home built Vista pc like 6 years old for about 3 months. Parents got pissed, I even more, but "accidentally" drove to the Apple Store in November after my visit to the orthodontist. Asked a guy carrying an iMac out, for directions. Found store, got the MacBook with $130 off (Thanksgiving) and I still remember the everybody staring at me while I exited the mall. :) An Apple purchase to remember.

I have had my macbook since Feb 08 when I switched and since then I have used my PC about twice. I will never go back to it. I use my macbook at home plugged into a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers.

Yup, i have the same MacBook as you. Really my only machine that i use. I found a 20" Acer LCD and some vaio speakers in the basement, hooked it up, hooked up my usb wireless logitech mouse, and wireless apple aluminum keyboard :DD

Really couldn't be happier with its performance.

I use my macbook as my main computer. My parents have a PC that they use, but I only use my mac, unless it's broken, which has only happened once. It has awesome power, and gets the job done. :D
