Adding landscape without the option to disable it was a horrible addition to the iPhone. I absolutely hate it. I hate doing opening an app, wanting to sit a certain way, then have to adjust myself because the app will rotate.

THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!!!!!!!!!

I would turn the landscape off in a heartbeat! It drives me mad, especially when I´m in bed.

It depends. Coming from a Blackjack II, which has a physical keyboard that's very close to the same size as the portrait keyboard on the iPhone, I'm already pretty fast at texting (with two thumbs or one), so I find myself using the landscape keyboard only when I have a long message to type. I don't like how small the screen above the keyboard is, but you can still scroll, even though it's slightly annoying. I either do that or hit the edit button to reread the conversation I'm in.

As for other apps, I use Safari in landscape 99.9% of the time, and Notes about 50/50.

If I intend to write a long message then I use landscape as I seem to have abnormally large thumbs for the iphone and I don't always read my texts before sending. (Sometimes with amusing results)

Landscape text and email is terrible and much harder to type with. Seriously, we all had the iPhone for a long time before 3.0.. you guys can't be serious that you could never get used to portrait. Portrait keys are closer, you can type with one hand, faster, etc. Anyone who has had an iPhone for any length of time and claims that they can type faster on landscape than portrait is a liar.

Portrait keys ARE closer. This is why I have hated typing like it. I have fairly big fingers, so the landscape keys are far more comfortable and I can type much better, with fewer corrections in landscape. Yes I can get by typing portrait, but I prefer landscape so much better. Plus since I have jailbroken my phone, I can turn it off, if I wanted to. ;)

Don't call me a liar when you have not met me.

It REALLY bugs me that Apple put in that feature whereby if you type a long message the space you're typing in grows (sometimes until it blocks the screen) Who thought that was a good idea? One of the most appealing things about the text app is being able to read past texts without having to go in and out of your inbox

BiteSMS (jailbreak) has the same thing and I REALLY wish Apple would put it in :(

as ive already said in this thread if you had read it. hit edit while your typing in the messages app.

Landscape keyboard is first choice for me.

One thing that bugs me with Safari is if I'm browsing in portrait and bring up Google, the keyboard is stuck in portrait even if I turn the phone to landscape...

Sort it out!
