I have three magazines I use through Newstand in addition to Zinio. So I like it. But I definitely agree that Apple should provide a way to hide unwanted/unneeded stock icons/folders.

Care to share how with the rest of the class?

You have to be on an older firmware. I think it's 5.0.1.

When you created a folder, you would have to quickly slide Newsstand in that same folder as the folder creating animation was going on.

EDIT: Didn't know about the above post. Still, you shouldn't have to do stuff like this to hide it.

what's the difference between newsstand and directly browsing into the magazine's web page?

I use it to read Forbes, Time, Xbox magazine...etc. without spending $$$ and have useles paper lying around the house, it's a great to have subscriptions on iPhone, iPad.

On top of being a totally useless app it's probably the ugliest icon on any platform ever. A wooden shelf? seriously! i wish Apple wasn't the control freaks that they are so the user could have the ability to uninstall it.

I use it on my iPad; not on my iPhone. So since this is the iPhone thread, I'll say that I'd prefer that I be able to move it. Fortunately I was able to drop it in a folder when iOS 5 first launched and I haven't moved it out since then.

Newsstand as a concept doesn't make a whole lot of sense on the small screen of an iPhone.

I don't use it either but then, I don't use 90% of the apps on my phone either. Some are paid and some are free. Because of this, I think I've only downloaded two apps in the past year.

I use Newsstand on my iPad, not so much on my iPhone. Would love to be able to get rid of it.

Having said that, there is a way to stuff apps into Newsstand shelves in iOS6 (unlimited number of apps for that matter) without Jailbreaking. It makes Newsstand kinda useful to tidy things up, at least I think so.

Not sure if anyone's posted that here, I'm sure someone already has, but for the lazy here's one of the links to show how to do it. Link with video
