I use it all the time. I have way too many apps and it's just easier to pull it up by tapping its name than looking for it.

Not to mention that that habit started with my mac. I'm always command-space-ing to open apps on my Mac.

People don't use it because it's too far away, it's practically useless. The only time people use it, is if they're using somebody else's phone and don't want to bother looking through the folders and pages.

Imagine if you in an app and you want to search for something, you have to tap on the Home button once, then tap on it again to go to the first page(If you aren't there) and then tap for the third time to switch to Spotlight, instead of doing all that most people just resort to scanning through the homescreen or just opening the app they want to search in and getting the information that way.

Spotlight, and search basically should be right under your finger tips, easily and more importantly, quickly accessible anytime you desire. That's why Spotlight should be integrated into the Notification Center, above the widgets.

That way, if you're in an app and want to search for something on the web say, you quickly pull down the Notification Center enter the search and tap go, the app will instantly switch to Safari and you're searching...

I've suggested to it Apple through their feedback page multiple times, I hope they will put Spotlight where it is supposed to be.

Definitely. Maybe more NC "widgets" is what iOS 6 will bring. But this description of spotlight is a must. I'd use it all the time like this for a web search, but still probably not for searching through my phone.

I use it often but agree that more could be done with that valuable real estate on that screen. Widgets would be nice.

I USE IT ALL THE TIME!! I'm so Glad its there!!! Its so much faster then going to page freaking 8 and finding which folder that particular app is in!! Even though I have most of my apps organized, there is often times where I don't have time to waste searching for the app. I move 1 page to the left and type in the first couple letters. Much faster!

I remember seeing a demo video from after either the 4 or 4s keynote. The apple employee was showing the journalist something and was looking for a particular app and was scrolling left and right through the pages looking for it! All I was thinking is how awful that made the iOS app layout appear. Seemed like a mess! He should of known to just use spotlight and would have the app instantly!

Spotlight is great, I think most people just don't use it because they work harder not smarter!

I knew a person who had a 32 gb iPhone 4 and he had so many apps he had maxed out the limit on the number of pages you could have. so to use some of the apps he had to use the search. I guess that's an extreme example and he told me he only used about 2/3 of the apps on any regular basis lol....

Impressive 2/3 usage!

I'm shocked by the amount of responses saying they don't use it at all.

I switched over to an Android phone about a month ago, and Spotlight search is one feature I miss the most. Swipe to the left of the home screen and type whatever you want for a system wide search + an option to search in safari and wikipedia.

Android has something similar, but it takes a few more clicks and isn't as quick in my opinion.

When I had my iPhone I pretty much used it daily. I didn't bother searching through folders for apps, just type in a few letters and the app pops up. Works extremely well for music too.

I use it a lot actually. I have over 160 apps on my phone and it is easier to just type in first few chars to bring it up.

I also use it to look up contacts on phone (over 1500 or so).

On the MBP, I use it launch apps and actually make use of the boolean search functions to search through the tens of thousands of mail I have (work and personal accounts all reside here).

Never have, probably never will. I see no reason for it. However, I just it almost daily in OS X. Mostly during the school year to find specific documents.

It's exceptionally rare that I use it on iOS, and when I do, it's to search for an email I need.

But I use it all the time on OS X.

Spotlight is an often overlooked or forgotten feature in my opinion.

Personally I use it far more on my Macs, yet it still gets used on iOS because it's so useful, it's the first thing I think of.

Never used it. Discovered after I jailbroke that I could disable it, which was one of the first things I did.
