I know this is about 15 inchers, but I use my 13 inch as a standalone. (heck, i used my old 12 inch ibook as a standalone too - but that was in college when my lap was my only desk) No monitor, keyboard, or mouse. I like the clutter free look, though extra screen space would be nice from time to time. Especially when using dreamweaver - all those palates leave you with very few horizontal lines left. I am considering the new 24 LED, which would be a baby step towards my eventual macpro.

Use it alone. If I need extensive control of colour I'll hook up to ACD but that's it. I do need my Wacom though for edits... but again, not all the time. Unfortunately I'm using a SR MBP so no fancy multi touch so I'm looking for a nice mouse.

I use my 17" MBP as ipod replacement. =p

I do have desktops but I use the MBP the most.

I have always used mine with an external keyboard and mouse. Within the last year I started using it with an external monitor too. If the Mac Pro wasn't so expensive and the G5's didn't run the risk of not running 10.6, I'd have gotten a tower instead.

Over the past 6 plus years, my PB15 and now MBP15 have been my primary computers.

I do have desktop models and use them for specific things. However, for the majority of what I need to do, my MBP fills the gap.

I upgraded to 4GB RAM and 500GB HD. Just need to get an internal 1TB HD and I'll be set for a while. :)

I used to use my white MacBook completely stand alone for exactly one year (got it 24th Dec. 07 and got my monitor 24th Dec. 08 :p) and I had no complaints at all. Right now my main use of the monitor is for things like presentations where I need more space to get the details perfect etc. Otherwise it's my 15" laptop screen!

I usually just use my macbook pro by itself, but I use an external keyboard/mouse for gaming, and I watch movies on my 21in. external monitor. It takes too long to hook up my external monitor though, its kind of weird.

me!! my hubby tried to talk me into the imac, but I really wanted the laptop....I do use a mouse though..... as sometimes it's just easier.....but i LOVE LOVE LOVE the trackpad on these MBP... when I use my old laptop (gave to my kids/hubby) I find myself trying to use that trackpad the same way! :D

I do eventually want to get a nice monitor but it's not a rush.

I tend to use mine all the time with just a mighty mouse. If needs be depending on what i'm doing i can hook it up to my 22" monitor and use an Apple keyboard. I don't find using the 15" screen a problem.

I've been using a laptop as a desktop replacement for 4 years now. it was a Sony Vaio up until Xmas last year and the 15" unibody MBP since.

I don't miss my old and bulky desktop pc at all, nor a larger screen. Only thing to be noted is that I'm so used to the trackpad (the general notion of the trackpad, not necessarily the umpb one) that I find myself looking for it at my office pc...

I have not used a desktop for years since 2003 in fact. My 15" is my desktop and laptop on the go.

I use my 15" MBP as my desktop replacement (nothing connected at all). I even print wirelessly to my laser printer that's attached to my Timecapsule. This is the best machine I've ever owned... period :D

Well I had a previous gen 24" iMac for about 6 months (bought it in Oct 08) but I found it to be sitting too high on my desk. It would be a lot better if the stand is adjustable but no it isn't, so I had to actually look up, and frankly it was quite tiring. So I got rid of it and bought the 15" UMBP. Couldn't be happier. I used to have the first gen MBA as well to use at work but now that I have the MBP I passed the MBA to my gf and use it for both at home and at work. I don't have anything hooked to it at work and when I'm at home I only plug in the Razer Deathadder for the occasional gaming under Windows 7 bootcamp.

Same here, using my MBP more and more for my usual 'work' (mails, chat, photo work less so for now), desktop for games.

After using a Dell (shudder) Inspiron 700m with an 11 inch screen, the Macbook Pro's screen seems like a little slice of heaven...

Yes, I use it as a desktop replacement. I almost considered buying the newest updated iMacs but with the portability and fairly good power of the MacBook Pro, I couldn't pass it up.

Of course, I don't do a lot of video editing or anything where a second monitor would be necessary.

I'm about half-and-half, where some of the times I hook up an external 24", and BT keyboard/mouse. Other times the portability is perfect--actually, I prefer retouching with the trackpad now.

I've done this since my 17" PB, which had pretty close to the same rez as my current 15".

I'm a straight MBP user. No external keyboard, meece, monitors. Only exception are my external hds - two 3.5 inchers on desk and two portable units. My MBP goes almost everywhere I go in a well-worn backpack.

I use mine as a desktop replacement. Although an external display would be nice.
