I never do, or any of those visual site things that other browsers (e.g., Chrome) have. It seemed like a cool idea but by the time I recognize the thumbnail for what it is, I might as well have selected it from my bookmarks.

I use it all the time. I have it set to Large Icons, and it displays the 6 websites I MOST visit.

...

i use it all the time. I have all my favourite sites pinned and have a gesture to activate it

When apple first introduced this feature, I thought cool, but after my first taste of it, I don't use it all

whats the opinion on resource usage? i used to use it on 2 gigs and a new tab would beach ball and Safari got up to 1 gig of memory usage. Chrome seems to use a lot less with its 'top sites'.

although im now im on 4 gigs and might not matter. might enable it again.

I sometimes have used it in the past, but I found it slowed down the browser a bit. However, I do have an older Mac mini... just can't seem to keep up the pace sometimes. :(

Never use it. It's a resource hog. Every site you visit is stored so as to be available to display as a Top Site.

To completely disable Top Sites, go to Safari > Preferences > General

New windows open with: Top Sites
Change it to something else. Obviously, you can do the same for New Tabs.

(You'll also see Top Sites in the Show All Bookmarks window. Drag that up, don't stop when it first stops moving. It will be reduced to a thin bar.)

Now delete the Image Cache. Choose Safari > Reset Safari... and select Remove All Webpage Preview Images. Click Reset. Now go to YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and select the Webpage Previews folder. Press Cmd-I and click Locked. Now it won't accumulate a jpeg and png of every web page you visit. I saved over 500MB of disk space!

I use it in Chrome. Its a perfect way to access my most visited websites.
I think I used it though, before I switched to Chrome.

I did until reading Gregg2's post; (thanks!). Now opens at history and bookmarks- access a lot more information in a more orderly fashion- and without that curious 'pause' you get with accessing top sites pages. Thanks for the tip.

Turned it off as it was a complete hog when on low bandwidth connections like using my phone as data.

Also found it a complete novelty rather than useful.
