I sometimes pick up my partner's iPad, and it's so much more difficult to use. My iPad is set up with my own Safari bookmarks, my own calendar, contacts, my emails, my apps, all logged in to my accounts, I have the font sizes set so it suits my eyes -- I just feel lost when I try to use my partner's iPad, and he gets annoyed with my weird settings when he tries to use mine.

But come to think about it, much the same thing goes with our computers, too. So it's not just iPads, and it's not a matter of not wanting people to see my personal info, though there's some of that, too. But it's more that there are all these personal customizations that you do to these devices over time, that they become very personal, and it's difficult to share them with other people.

Oh my god--my wife's iPad and Macbook are both complete freaking messes. I can never find anything on either of them. They're not organized in any kind of logical way. She just puts stuff on them and it lands where it lands.

My wife's devices are the same way -- messy home screen with dozens of Safari pages open at once. Her MacBook Pro is worse. The desktop is covered with documents. Looking at her desktop is like scratching your fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Anyway, I let her set up her devices the way she wants. After all, it's her stuff, let her work however she wants.

Is any of the information you all are guarding required to be gleaned from your iPad upon your passing?

While alive, do you trust your Executor or Executrix with your passcode?

This is a good point, and worthwhile thinking about for most people. My wife knows all the passcodes for my devices, as well as my 1Password code, so she can access all my info if necessary. Most of our accounts are joint WROS so she won't be shut out legally, but I don't want her to have to call Cellebrite to access our various account numbers in case I meet an untimely demise.

Mostly me, but my wife and 2 kids are welcome to use it. I even have both my kids' thumbprints scanned in for Touch ID. They all have their own devices, but occasionally want the bigger screen.

i have air 2 and recently a mini 4...
air 2 now is being use by my husband or my son sometimes.. its like family ipad

the new mini 4 is my personal ipad ... i bring it everywhere i go it like extension of my iphone se..
if i want a bigger screen for movies i grab the air 2....

I see the way my wife and kids handle their devices, and they learned long ago Doug's devices are off limits.

My wife drops her iphone at least once a week, her MacBook Pro somehow managed some dings and scratches on the body and screen, and she can never seem to remember where she placed her iPad. I've watched my daughter bring her laptop downstairs holding it by the display, and my son's iPhone case is bit up....yes, he chews it like I used to chew pens in school. So the understood and no longer needed to be spoken rule is hands off my devices, nobody even asks.

Only I use my iPad. For family members, I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet to distract them with (they would use the tablet only to watch youtube anyway).
Having said that, I believe it's time for Apple to introduce multi-user support on iOS. Android has it since way back when, and it is actually useful in a family situation. I thought it would be one of the features of the iPad Pro, but nope. Seriously Apple, OS X has multi-user support (and fast user switching) when computers only had 1GB of RAM, so it is doable in the current hardware of iPads.

Only I use my iPad. Also nothing dodgy on mine, but it has my work notes, e-mails, apps, my music and all my settings the way I want them to be. Friends and others would only mess that up.

It may sound selfish, but these devices are definitely meant to be very personal.

me. me only. only me. I've nothing 'dodgy' to hide, but i consider my ipad an extension of my soul. it's very personal and i store my life on it, both in business and personal terms. i'm also well aware I've a mini-mortgage in my hands when using it, so another reason i wont let anyone else touch it.

luckily my wife hasn't any 'tech' interest (unless we're both shopping or film viewing in bed on it), and i dont have any kids (again, thank the Lord ;) ). and if the relatives do come around and want to play they use the ipad2. if i ever need to demo on it or display stuff to others, it's me doing the button pressing and holding.

i used to want user account capabilities on the ipad for different users, but these days i dont see the point.

The Pencil is never more than inches from my hand, and the keyboard has my sandwich and coffee stains over it.

I dont consider myself mean or ocd, but where the ipad is concerned stay away!
It's me and me alone :D

Like you, my iPad and even my phone are an extension of me, someone else using it just doesn't feel right unless they are just checking something out.

I tend to be a private person to an extent that I also don't like using other people's devices, even when I do, I will do what I need to specifically then give the phone or tablet back, I don't like going through my stuff and I don't like people going through my stuff.

Me, myself and I.
Seriously though I have a weird phobia when people handle my electronics. I prefer to hold it for them and show them with my own hands on the screen.
Oh my... and if they have eaten and have food/liquid on their hands.... Freak out!
My partner uses her MacBook and her iPhone constantly so there has never been any situation for her to pick my device up.

Whoever gets to it first! We have plenty of devices around so isn't much of a deal. I have noticed that with the 9.7 and pencil my daughter is reaching for it much more than the old one. Loves to draw and color. I was only interested in the pro for the pencil and note taking at work so in the evening I prefer my MBP to do the rest.

Interesting to read how everyone else handles it.

Just me; niece & nephew come round with their minis so mine is out of bounds. I intend to maintain the pristine condition until I upgrade from the Air 2:)

Everyone. It's the family iPad 2 and it'll be the same when we upgrade to the 9.7" iPad Pro. I may change come December when I plan on getting the 12.9" for myself, but I doubt it.
