And as you yourself mentioned, just because you had good experiences with something doesn't mean others might not have. To use your own words: "It amazes me that people think if they didn't see a problem it doesn't exist." If you look even just through this forum, let alone online in general, you'll see complaints about practically every iOS update, especially the major version bumps (and same will apply to Android, Windows, etc.).

Again, that's not to say it's good or anything like that, but it's to say that it's not new or unusual, it's just a reality of complex software and hardware.

Great experiences doesn't mean bug free. I had my share of bugs in earlier iOS releases also but my point remains that iOS 8 has been the worst experience for me of any previous version. And while I read about all the different issues users had with earlier versions, this time around the complaints are mostly the same or at the very least extremely similar.

I don't want you to take me wrong; I prefer iOS to anything else and I'm sure Apple will fix most of the worst issues but I am concerned that this experience isn't as smooth and trouble free as earlier versions were.

Well, iOS 7 had a huge reaction of the same sort by many in the earlier days and yet by the time iOS 8 was announced iOS 7 (as of 7.1) was heralded as a great, stable, and powerful version by most.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Forstall let go not because Maps came out the way it did, but because he refused to apologize for the bad release? That was my understanding of it from all the articles I read on the issue.

Forstall was forced out for a number of reasons- the map issue was the final straw for Cook.

-Forstall was in charge iOS and let its features stagnate, allowing android to overtake iOS.

-Forstall was notorious for being difficult to work with. It was reported that some of Apples senior management would not sit in on my meetings where Forstall was present( Bob Mansfield, Ive). It was coming down to a choice between those guys or Forstall.

-Apparently he wasn't liked by anyone, as reports after he got fired said there was cheering when his departure was announced.

- He was a relic from Steve Jobs NEXT days and lost his main protector/advocate when Jobs passed away.

-He was a major proponent of skuemorphism which Cook and Ive are not fans of.

There was a lot more to Forstall getting let go than just maps. Cook just used Forstall's not taking responsibility for maps being ready for release to let him go with out having to go public with all the issues.

Was really bad on my iPad 2 until I restored it as a new device... works great now.

I did this on a 6+ and while it performs better, I can't say it works great. Also, doing this loses all texts. I don't know why this can't be backed up separately.

----------

It isn't about nothing. Maybe you don't use the same or as many apps as I do but my experience is that every day I would say half my apps crash on launch. Usually they work on the second launch. Sometimes I have to force close them by swiping up in the app switcher.

Every app that uses iCloud takes up to 30 seconds to launch. I've lost data in a number of apps due to either iCloud or iOS. I don't know which.

Every couple of days my iPad re-springs and occasionally reboots. All this is on a brand new iPad Air 2 128GB.

On my iPad Air the screen becomes unresponsive when a call comes through so I have to chase down my iPhone.

So please don't tell me I'm whining. These are real problems that need to be fixed. It amazes me that people think if they didn't see a problem it doesn't exist.

Sometimes my 6+ decides to act up and refuse any touch screen input. Happens out of the blue. Once it even made all home screen icons disappear. Sounds crazy huh? I had to shutdown down the phone both times.

Try installing as new and slowly install apps.

Without question iOS 8 is the buggiest piece of crap Apple have ever released.

Almost every aspect of it is flawed somewhere.

When something 'just works' I'm quite taken by surprise!

I've even had to compose this reply in another app and copy/paste to these forums because of the keyboard lock-ups in iOS 8.

Yep, me, too.

Here's another thought.

Maybe one of the main differentiating factors is how much one is involved in using iCloud? I don't use iCloud for anything except Find My iPhone. I have all of the other iCloud toggles OFF. Pix are local; nothing is streamed. Docs are in specific other cloud apps, not iCloud. Is anyone else who isn't having problems in a similar situation?

I have all my toggles on and I'm not having problems. Using the features like iCloud makes the product stronger especially across devices.

iOS 8.1 is stable and functional on new devices. There are a few bugs still there like keyboards and stuff but it's not the end of the world. On older devices you see lag and performance hits which is something I would hope they iron out by 8.3.

Well, there goes that theory.

Are you serious?

8.1 is ANYTHING a but stable on my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6, or any equivalent device my mates own!

The real ****ing question is who the **** will be ****ing fired for ios 8's ***** ****ing wifi capabilities

I'm struggling to think of a reason for that many swear words, but feel free to call Apple about it. It'll likely help if you don't swear every other word.

It's fairly stable on my iPad retina mini and iPhone 5s. Granted, I have had bugs once in a while (phone sometimes gets unresponsive, then spontaneously reboots on its own), but overall, I like the new features in ios 8 and the bugs haven't really affected my enjoyment negatively. :)

Dead serious. Just because you are having issues doesn't mean all of us are. What are you seeing? Could be something related to your third party apps or hardware.

The only thing I'm seeing in my usage is third party keyboard support is still jacked up. My iPad Mini 1 is lags often at various spots with 8.1 as well.

Scott Forestall was fired for putting out Maps a bit too early. Honestly I never had a problem with it, and I have always liked it better than any other GPS or maps app that I've ever used, and I think it's awesome. But he got fired for that.

So who is getting fired for iOS 8 being so terrible all around? For the glitchy way the keyboard looks when you go into split keyboard mode on iPad? For how it all but bricked people's iPad 2's and made everything but the latest hardware run super laggy? Even the new iPhone 6 is noticeably laggy with it.

Then there are all the people whose devices are basically non-functional after updating because Apple's developer beta program never bothers to beta test the actual update process itself. Don't try to say they do, because they don't. It's a joke.

Oh but look at the stock price. I don't care about the stock price. I care about users. I care about customer experience. Who at Apple cares about customer experience enough to fire someone over this? Because someone deserves to get fired. This is shameful, terrible, and it makes me sick to think Apple would do something like this.

And don't make me bring up the 1500-post thread on Discussions.Apple.Com about how Mavericks will randomly erase your external hard drive. Yeah. Sure, blame the users. Sure, no bug in the OS could account for this. Sweep it under the rug yet again. Obviously Apple doesn't care or they'd post on their own forums and reassure users they are developing a solution, like other companies do. God forbid they publicly acknowledge something.
Still have to see a single problem in iOS 8 , not to speak about maverick, running on my Mac without erasing anything.....

Why would someone get fired?

iOS 8.1 is great and stable OS with great features. Certainly better than iOS7.

I dont get all this whining about nothing. iOS 8 was a bit buggy in the beginning but so was iOS7.

.... and iOS 6 ... and 5 ... and 4 ...

There is not such a thing like a perfect os. Apple is doing a good job over the years in improving their iOS.

No one will get fired for this unless some major muckup is discovered. As far as performance, well there is an easy solution. Don't install iOS 8. None of my iPad's are running iOS 8 and won't.

What a typical head-in-the-sand response.

As I'm typing this I put my iPad Air 2's keyboard into split keyboard mode, and the animation glitches out. There is no blinking I-bar in the text showing where my insertion point is. When I try to select some text in the text field, it selects the entire text field instead of just some of the text—and then I can't deselect it. In fact I can almost never deselect text anymore. You used to be able to by simply tapping outside the selected area, but now that's broken, too.

And this iPad came with iOS 8. You can't choose to install iOS 6, the last version of iOS that actually worked right.

Don't get me wrong, I like the multitasking and control center. Lots of things in iOS 8 are nice, other than the new UI look and feel that came out with iOS 7. Y'know, I understand they needed to make the UI resolution independent and it's much easier to do that when everything is nothing more than a plain background with thin-line symbols instead of real icons. Much less work is involved.

But look. Why can't they make sure everything actually works? How could they break the split keyboard animations and text editing, two core features?

A lot of the time when I'm on a web page and I select some text, the page will randomly scroll all the way to the top (editing text in YouTube comment fields does this). That is totally unacceptable.

Again who is getting fired for this?

I might fire Apple.

Fired? If I had my way, I would recommend a bonus for all the people involved in putting iOS 8 together. It has a ton of new features and functionality and they should be commended for managing to put them together as they did under such a tight schedule, bugs and all. :)

There is not such a thing like a perfect os. Apple is doing a good job over the years in improving their iOS.

Then why is so much of it so poorly organized or simply doesn't work right on a consistent basis? For example, updating to iOS can erase all the PDFs in your iBooks that you added to it from web or email downloads, even if you run a full backup first.

Or look at this thread where users are frustrated about the disappearing address bar in Safari in iOS 8, with one user noting that Apple is "destroying their products". https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6543199

Or how sorting by Sort Composer is now broken too. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6780441

I hate the way there is a super-thick bar above the on-screen keyboard that blocks much of the view on phones, and serves no purpose elsewhere. It's totally blank except for two up and down arrow at the far right, but they could've made those stick up on their own without needing a big blank useless bar blocking the view of the content.

Then there's the fact that even on iPad Air 2' text entry feels leggy and there is noticeable delay time between pressing a key on the onscreen keyboard and seeing the character appear on the screen, compared to my iPad 3 running iOS 6, the last true iOS.

I mean why don't they care anymore about fluidity and zero glitches? Why are you slovenly lot complicit with this garbage? Do you really, honestly not notice this degradation? I can show you video recorded at 240 FPS with the iPhone 6, where I conclusively prove there are added milliseconds of lag all over the place on iOS 8.

Sorry it's just driving me crazy, I don't understand what Apple is thinking anymore, between removing user-upgrade ability from MacBook RAM and storage to ceasing to care about OS quality, in lieu of just packing in tons of features faster than app developers can keep up with it, and removing all the eye-pleasing interface elements in favor of a stark white eye-blinding look with gaudy fluorescent icons... I hardly recognize Apple anymore.

It reminds me of Joan Rivers.

So because it works for you, therefore all the people experiencing problems are irrelevant. A typical response. Sweep it under the rug... Pretend it's not happening... Act like it isn't there... Ignore it.

On the other hand marginalize the people who say the release is just fine, they like the aesthetics, etc. As you say...(another) typical response.

I'm with you. I like IOS 8 and all of the undercover tweaks.

Let's fact it. Every major O/S release has been less than perfect starting with IOS 5. It takes apple one or two releases to smooth out things.
