The only reason I upgraded to the 3GS was because of the lag on 3.0, which was exacerbated by jailbreaking. One year after the 3GS and I am not bothered by any lags even with heavy theming. So considering the 4 has a faster chip and allegedly even more RAM I doubt I'll upgrade next year and just get the iPad 2.

I will skip the next update and upgrade again in 2012 like I did with my 3G (skipped 3GS).

I will keep it for 2 years, like I did my 3g. Doesn't make much financial sense not to.

I will be doing the same. I think the iPhone 3G will be my first phone I will have used legitimately for 2 years. I didn't hop on the 3GS wagon and I am so ready to upgrade. This phone is going to be so fast compared to the 3G I can't wait.

I doubt that Apple is going through this silly numbering 4, 5, 6, etc.

Now what I really am expecting is that next year it would be the same design plus the official 4G coverage, that being said, I think they will call it "iPhone 4(insert letter here)". But, the fact of the network upgrading, obligates Apple on making a bigger upgrade on the phone in mostly every aspect so that users have more than just simple
spec bumps. Chances are minimum though since according to Apple, the iPhone 4 is a big leap in general, making that silly for them if next year they are going to introduce a whole new iPhone.

And yes, I think I will keep my iPhone 4 for two years, unless the next one has twice of the battery life : D

i think this might be the first iphone that i keep for more than a year, i really dont see them doing to many upgrades next June and i might hold off and keep it for another year.... what do you guys think? what will you do?

I will keep it. Unless they come out with some world changing new iphone and I mean way more than any upgrade they've done now (I have a 3G, if I didn't get an upgrade price, I'd be keeping it), it's not worth the full price just to upgrade my phone.

I mean I want the new iPhone 4 but it still wouldn't be worth the full price to upgrade. I don't have that kind of money to throw away. The 3G still is great, does most of what I want, is a tad laggy now but dealable. It may be outdated but it still is a great phone/mini-computer and still quite capable of doing what I need plus entertainment. I don't really have any huge complaints with it, the only reason I'm upgrading is the iphone 4 looks good and my contract is up so I can upgrade for relatively cheap. I'm upgrading cause I can and I like new gadgets, not cause I have any qualms with my current iphone.

I think you mean 3G>3GS. The 2G>3G update was significant. The 3G>3GS was evolutionary not revolutionary. Most likely the 4>5 update with be the same. I myself will get the 5 simply because I have another line to upgrade at that time. If i didn't though after going through all iterations so far I think I would actually sit out 5 unless it had some groundbreaking new feature. Just my $.02.

The 2G to 3G update wasn't significant. Same specs just with 3G radio. 3GS gives a great performance boost, better camera, and longer support with multitasking.

I am on a 1 year upgrade cycle, so I will likely get 5.

iPhones in general have hella resale value...so for me it makes sense to buy the iPhone 4 subsidized, try it out (my first time with a iAnyting) and if I don't like it, sell it and get something else and not really have to fork out any money.

i dont know why but i feel that this phone has everything i might need. it is thinner... has a flash. two cameras. etc not much more i need haha... if att upgrades their network in a year then i will def upgrade!

I plan to keep this phone for 2 years.

However, if apple comes out with a larger screen & led notification. I would want it.
