Here's what would be kinda cool:

Verizon CEO is on stage and says they have something exciting to announce. He pulls out an iPhone and makes a phone call to Steve Jobs who is backstage. Jobs walks out talking to Verizon CEO and says: "And here is it."

Kind of far fetched.

reverse the roles and put it at an Apple event.

its obvious that Steve Jobs will announce it. a verizon ceo announcing it wouldn't be as newsworthy.

And that's the whole point. This isn't the launch of a new model. It will most likely be a slightly modified model for another carrier. Not worthy of an entire launch event.

Steve Jobs.

When it's Verizon's turn at CES, Steve's gonna walk out and say "How the hell did i get here?", begin to walk off stage, then go "Oh yeah, Verizon iPhone." And then chuck the phones into the crowd, aiming for vital organs and small children.

^^^^^oh god I hope so...

If Steve announces I kinda pictured him going over all the things that have been added to the phone over time, with a check mark next to them. Then say something like "but there's one more check that's been missing" followed by the Verizon logo.

Silly to speculate I know. Hopefully we'll find out soon!

It has to be difficult for Apple and Verizon to resist getting together so they can use a Roman numeral 5 ("V") for the "iPhone V(erizon)" model :)

Or, if you're more rebellious, having a masked and caped V for Vendetta character come onstage, spray paint a huge red "V" over an ATT logo, then throw off his mask to reveal Steve Jobs underneath.

I imagine it will be similar to what they did for the first international iPhone (in the UK). They had a small press-only event at the theatre of the Regent St Apple Store with Steve to announce it and the price, then the CEO of O2 to talk about the various plans and pricing of those.

So I predict a small Apple event where Steve makes the announcement, then the CEO of Verizon comes out to talk about the network side of things (the plans and pricing, plus how great their network is blah blah blah).

More than likely its going to be Steve and Verizon. Why are people acting like this is not a big deal, its not going to be some small conference... its going to be a real deal Apple type announcement.

We are talking about likely 5+ Million people that would get a Verizon iPhone. It will be a HUGE event.

I don't think it's going to be as huge as you think. I think it'll be announced at the same conference as the new MBP line, which I would guess would be the keynote announcement.
