At this point in time I just want the floodgates to open with:
1 - Reviews from tech teams under NDA,
2 - in-depth analysis from max tech and the likes on their own dime, and
3 - the inflow of all the interesting learnings and comments we'll see in this forum once you start taking delivery tomorrow.

We'll learn so much the next two days - not just for the 2021 cycle but also the implications for 2022 and beyond ?.

I ordered a base 14-inch but cancelled it because I really wanted to get more RAM. I plan on using this at least 5 years and run VMs, making more RAM useful.

I ended up reordering a new config with 32GB of RAM and also the 10 core CPU upgrade. I left the GPU at 14 cores and kind of regret it, but those incremental updates add up. My delivery estimate is now the end of November instead of this week.

Well, I cancelled my order again and reordered a new config. I plan on keeping this Mac for 5 years at least like I did with my last MacBook Pro (not counting the M1 which was just meant to be temporary), and I kept thinking about skimping out on the $110 upgrade to the 16 Core GPU from the 14 Core GPU. I think I will likely notice the extra two cores over the following years more than I will miss the $110.

So I ordered a new config of the 14-inch with the 512 SSD, 32GB of RAM, 10 Core CPU, and 16 Core GPU. Definitely more than I wanted to spend, but the sale of my M1 MBP helped make it a bit easier.

Luckily my delivery date was only pushed back by a few days. The previous earliest delivery date I had was 29 November, now it is 2 December. Five weeks to go!

Here is a perfect example of the consumerism and how pointless it is. Luke does some good stuff, but I don’t know why he’s going through this level of desperation. MBKHD is probably gonna get the specced 14 and 16 and review those and that’s it. Why buy 5?

Could not disagree more.

The vast majority of YouTubers just film cinematic intros then tell us insights like “I like that the camera is better”.

Miani bought multiple MBPs with the explicit intention of testing which of the multiple configurations Apple bombarded users with are actually best value for different use cases.

Serious question: why place an order for a new MacBook Pro and then cancel it? Was there missing information about it? Why create threads about it? You just changed your mind?

Can we not all do a little more thinking before pressing the buy button, and be responsible?

There is an unnecessary increase of the buy/return cycle because of people not thinking.

Think about the planet - gas spent for your delivery and return! Cost incurred by Apple because of your return.

Just go to a store, test the display model and buy if you like it.

All of you, have a thought about this. Be a bit more responsible about all resources spent for delivering you an order.
A lot of my friends canceled their MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 Max order because the CPU is to slow.
Single core performance could be slightly faster. But is okay.

But the main problem is that multi core performance is very bad.
The CPU performance increased only by 65-70% but the GPU performance increased by x4.
A lot of people need 4x CPU performance or more for many various works, when using a MacBook Pro.

GPU performance is nice but believe it or not, on this planet we have other works than (only 3) photo, video or music. 100000000 other stuff need a much stronger CPU.

At least 2x 8 = 16 performance cores (+ 2 or 4 efficiency cores) would be the lowest option to buy a MacBook.

I'm assuming a big part of it is this cycle:

  1. Apple announce product with "positive" points, and pre-order days
  2. People pre-order within minutes to secure a machine, based on requirements and what Apple disclose as spec
  3. Reviews emerge and finer details come out, such as High Power mode only available on 16" max, HDMI being only 2.0 etc
  4. Reviews emerge of "real world" performance, and some purchasers reassess their requirements
  5. Orderes are cancelled/changed accordingly

Totally. In fact, if you watch the video he clearly explains the reasons behind selecting each device

#1. 14” Thermal throttled unable to achieve Turbo Boost mode. As the 16”
#2. No HDMI 2.1 so I can’t output 4K 120hz to my LG OLED
#3. WiFI 6e not included
#4. Unknown issues I can easily wait for a full Review
#5. 20% Off EDU discount just gonna wait and pay my brother to use his .EDU discount
#6. A Notch but no FaceID you guys realize the iPad Pro has FaceID but No Notch.
#7. a 3nm M2 or the 3nm M2 Max will be far superior

The problem here is in fact, that mbp with m2 most likely wont be next year. I suppose not early than 2023

I genuinely think too many people get swept up in launch hype, convince themselves that their wanting a big new shiny is actually a need for it, and then panic when the sizeable hit lands in their bank account and cancel the order. This is why I never preorder any Apple device, no matter how 'excited' I am for it. It doesn't hurt to take your time, and actually see the new device in person before you commit to buying. Prevents impulse purchases by default.

That’s okay but 2023 at least the performance of 32 performance cpu cores is expected. Better 64 cpu cores.

At the moment the cpu cores are only good for the cases we have already seen. But for most other cases, integer math,…,… they are very slow.

Yeah, and in 5 years will be much more. But we live now. So is there any better laptop for now? Not sure, so if its not for you - better take threadripper and have a lot CPU parallel power on desktop.
