Couldn't agree more. . .

May I ask how much you got rid of it for?

I may be tempted to bring up this convo at home, willing to sell the iPad in advance, hoping my mom would get the 2nd iPad so we could facetime from Cali and Tokyo. :D:D:D
I have seen ipads going for around 600 but they are 32gb bests bet i reckon is to just hover around ebay and see what the average selling price is and that should be your selling price

Since it's a gift, I don't have much choice other then to yes, buy one for Christmas. Waiting really isn't an option. I wish a lighter iPad with Facetime camera existed now for my mom, but since it does not, I will have to bite the bullet now and then maybe switch it out later cause my mom is 80 years old and while not the heaviest thing in the world, I think if there is ever a lighter version, that would be better. And Facetime would be nice with her too.

It's not going to get much lighter.

They can't really do much about the glass unless they change it to some super high tech plastic (which people won't be happy with)

They can't really do a lot about the back unless they change it to some super high tech plastic (which people won't be happy with)

And I don't expect any earth shattering battery developments have happened over the past 12 months.

Hence I can't really see any change if at all.

At best it's going to be a tweak to the weight, but nothing more than a change of iPad case would probably make.

Perhaps if they could make the back actually be the battery it would help?

The 2nd gen iPad will at least have:
512MB memory or more
A front facing camera and maybe a rear facing one

my girlfriend's just offered to get me an ipad for xmas.....

does anyone know what the resale value would be for the ipad when the new ones come out?

i'm only after a 16gb wifi (tho 3g would be nice but £100 more is too much)

If your going to sell it for 2nd gen my advice is to put it on ebay the day apple release info about the 2nd gen, majority of people wouldn't know it has happened. you would get a better price that way

How about asking her to get you an Apple gift card for that amount(I guess Apple has those) for Christmas. You'll probably start hearing more leaks in Jan then you can decide to buy a 1Gen or save the card and buy the 2nd Gen a few months later I'm guessing mid Mar/April for a few models and May for the rest.

Personally for me if I've waited this long I'd wait till I at least hear what Gen2. If nothing then buy the Gen1 otherwise I buy Gen2 within a month of release, that way I get a full year of enjoyment rather than a few months, then selling it and having to put another $140-150 to purchase Gen2

With the gift card is saves you from having to sell the gift your girlfriend gave you a few months ago. Women are funny creatures you know her better than me but some may be turned off that you sold a gift so soon after it was given to you even if it was to fund a Gen2

I'm going to wait for the 2nd gen... Although I'm debating between a MacBook air and an iPad mainly because of flash video support.
