Yeah I've defaulted to white too. I actually think that it looks better than the black. Much more Apple like. Almost like a mini MacBook. And it seems pretty perfect out of the box. So far!

not looking close enough??

give me a break.. mine is just fine too.
this is becoming the ipad 3 screen tint. "you're just color blind and cant see it" "all are defective!!"

i know there are phones with scratches, and ones without.. but to say someone just cant see them? that seems ignorant.

----------

do you have glas.t?
ive been curious

Its not ignorant its sarcastic. If yours is perfect the great but it wont stay that way.

Yes i have glas.t and love it.

----------

I went white 32 only because after days of trying at 10pm, I could not get black 32. Eventhough it is not a big deal, the black is just a little more badass looking. The scuffgate stuff is BS. Look at the Apple store. They have many, many phones on display, handled by every varitey of idiot where they are fumbled and manhandled all day long. They all still look good.

I saw damage on most there.

----------

Two years? Really?

How many posters here will still be worried about their iPhone 5...I'm sure by then everyone would have moved on to newer issues.

The worry is resale next year for the ip6. Thats the driver for scuffgate.

----------

Um what? The 5S?. What's gonna be new this time around? A third camera? 20% better graphics? Let's be realistic, sir. I threw two years out there because that's the most common contract term for carriers.

You being "sure" about what OTHER people will be doing? Maybe you have some special crystal ball that we don't know about?

Because a huge chunk of ip5 buyer were ip4s owners. Most upgrade yearly to maximize their resale and to have the latest. Whats that scuffed and scratched ip5 going to fetch. Check out ebay. Find any listings hilighting an aged or scratched look as a selling point?

The guy above is sure cause its happened before.

----------

Crystal ball? I'm not sure one would have to rely on magic to realize a pattern...

iPhone June 2007
iPhone 3G July 2008
iPhone 3GS June 2009
iPhone 4 June 2010
iPhone 4s October 2011
iPhone 5 September 2012

Now what the iPhone 5s...6...17 will feature? Sure that is where a crystal ball would shed some light on the situation!

Common contracts terms 2 years...
maybe so but after those two years are you concerned about the looks of your two year old phone or what your new phone will feature?

I am concerned as i sell my old phone and want to get top dollar.

I agree!!!

just reserved a white one for tomorrow because it was all they had.. I'm not sure about it though since I originally wanted black.. I guess I'll know when I see it.

I have, after seeing it in person and all the marks on the black one that are easily visible I have reserved a white model.

I originally ordered the black one but then saw pics of the white one online, so i decided to look at it in person at the store, and glad I got the black one. White is nice, but the new black one is just oh soooo drop dead sexy!

The color screen looks richer in black. In store light the white sometimes seems yellow.

I went black. I will go naked with 4 bumpons on the back. The dings and scuffs I've seen are on the small bezel. And the bezel is really small. Almost unnoticeable.

If it scuffs, i'll live with it or sharpie it. If it gets really bad then a case will cover it a year from now. At least the back case will not shatter. And the insides of the phone will always be an iPhone 5.

Which is why I'm upgrading!

I had a white since launch day and returned it 2 days ago.
reserved a black one instead.

originally liked white more but black just looked really sleek. scuffs or no scuffs will stick w/ black.

even w/ some wear im sure in 2 years this phone will still be worth at least $200+, and a bit more when unlocked. surely enough to cover the upgrade fees for the 6.

Cancelled my black online last week after waiting 3 weeks for it and now i have to wait another 3 weeks to get the white. But im pretty sure looking back in a years time, Sept 2013, ive made the right choice.

:D

Scuffs or no scuffs black is the one I'm getting because that black is just Sexy:D. Got a white 4S that I love but its time to back to black

I went the opposite way. I preordered 2 black i5s from Worst Buy because I had $500 bucks in gift cards...They had white in stock on launch day and not black so I bought them. Never had a white phone and couldnt get used to it.

So when my black i5s came in a returned the white ones. I love the black. I keep my phones in cases and I okay if it it has a scratch on it from wear. My son also got his exchanged. However his i5 has a green stripe in the display, so he will need to exchange again.

The white doesnt do it for me.

It's a good thing I purchased by black ip5 before coming on these forums. I probably would have ended up buying a white version considering how wide spread the scuffgate issue appears to be from reading all these posts on forums.

The color screen looks richer in black...

This is my reason as well. I always wrap my iPhones in a black case so I am not to worried about scratches.

Sort of the same reason I only buy black TVs or black computer monitors... black shirts, black shoes, black jackets, black pants... Hold on maybe I am a little partial to black?

Try turning up the brightness. My screen looks great in my white 5. To each his own i guess.

I received an AT&T 64gb black i5 on launch day, not a day later I already had a nick in the bezel despite babying the thing. 3 days later I was up to 3 nicks and couldn't pinpoint when any of them occurred. At that point I called applecare to request a switch to white, and they basically told me to try to get one at the store as it would be at least a month for them to receive my return and send me a new one.

Of course our local store hasn't had them in stock since launch, but I've been checking online inventory at 10pm each night and on Saturday a white 32gb AT&T was available for in-store pickup so I grabbed it. Went in to the store yesterday and they had an employee with at least 100 tickets for various sizes and carriers available, including the white 64gb. Thus I grabbed a ticket for the white, exchanged my black in a seamless transaction, and also hooked up my brother with new ones by getting tickets for him to upgrade and hanging out with them in-store till he got there. BTW I was up to about 6 nicks in 2 weeks at the point of the switch and couldn't pinpoint a cause other than perhaps my wedding band from when I held the phone.

I know the white one will scratch and nick as well, but at least they will be the same color as the aluminum, whereas the black/slate revealed the silver underneath the anodized coating and really stood out.

I'm much happier with the white one. After having had e a white 4S I was having buyers remorse from the minute I saw a white one in person. The black one looks sexy in pics, but in person I think the white is a nicer looking phone. I'm very happy with the switch.

I am amazed how people are so worried over a phone. It's a phone. It gets used, it will get scratches on it. You will live. I have a $8000 guitar next to me with dings and scratches on it, you don't we me crying.

Those of you who are switching to white because your black iP5 arrived damaged from the factory or are nicking/scratching like hell within a few days (indicative of defective anodizing coating) aren't making too much sense. Quite a few of us have black iP5 that are still flawless after 1-3 weeks and you just got unlucky to get a defective black iP5.
