Went to the local grocery store (they were running a 40% off sale), because I wasn't too keen on buying a $35 book and gave it to my brother, who has all six Harry Potter books (because he's been given all of them, I figured that he shouldn't have to buy one now). Maybe when he's done I'll take a look at it, but just not too much into HP. Now, the Dark Tower series on the other hand... :D

That's actually the adult cover but the children's cover looks like this in the UK/Australia...

still it annoying why they will not release the adult cover in the united states. Honestly I like the much simpler cover they used on the adult versions and from my understand their is no difference between the books correct?

Just got mine. My mailman is awesome. He rang the doorbell, and said that even though he doesn't deliver to my house until the afternoon he took a slight detour to deliver my book 5 hours earlier. YAY!!!

I am now announcing my temporary leave from MacRumors. See you all when I finish the book. :p

My wife got her copy at 2.30 this afternoon. She was just about to give up ... all the previous Harry Potter books were delivered about 7.30 am.

I dropped my sister off at Border's at midnight to get her book...then drove five minutes to Kroger's, grabbed a book, checked out, and got back to Border's at 12:15...read for another two hours until she finished in her line.

I was done with it by 5AM, even with a driving break in there.

Top-notch. But the end of a series is always sad.

wasn't expecting it till this afternoon when the mailcarrier usually comes by... and low-and-behold... the UPS man wakes me up at 9am. I kinda felt sorry for him.. spending his Saturday with a truckfull of HP books....

Hadn't planned to get one but picked one up for the children while I was out shopping - only five english pounds in John Lewis!

I pre-ordered mine to get the discount. I'll go pick it up tomorrow. Was too busy today.

I picked mine up last night from Asda. Started reading at 8am, finished at 5pm with a few breaks ! Its very good actually, the best book i think. Quite a few twists near the end.

I am going rather nuts waiting for mine to be delivered. It is 2PM right now and the UPS guy has not been buy yet...

I'm waiting myself for my copy to arrive via UPS from Amazon. Says it's here waiting to be delivered off of the tracking system.

EDITED...
My book arrived via the mail service shockingly enough. Amazon had it shipped via UPS to the USPS office and then it was directed to be delivered to my home address. Talk about a surprise while getting the mail. :)

Mine just arrived. I looked out my front door a half-hour ago and it wasn't there. Looked out again just now, and there it was! It's funny, just about every door in the hallway has a little white box in front of it!

UPS finally delivered the book (pre-ordered from Amazon) here. We must be the last household on earth to get it today.

Now I can spoil it for all of you by revealing that how the book ends... with a punctuation mark!

My wife's copy wasn't delivered today. So she went out and bought another copy:rolleyes:

CAME!!

Crammed into the mailbox with four other pieces of mail.

Special edition with slipcover @ $65, though mine was discounted due to my B&N membership card.

Got it last night (couldn't get into town before then and there wasn't much point pre-ordering online cos I can just walk into any shop around here and get it, stock is plentiful) , finished it already. The writing style has improved dramatically it's true, a very enjoyable book.

Saw both the U.S. and U.K. versions at a small bookstore in Shanghai today. I'm sure they're everywhere.

I've always bought the U.K. versions, since I lived in Canada. They're better. The U.S. versions look much more childish IMO.

Anyways, while the U.K. version didn't have a retail price on it, the U.S. version did. $34.99! I can get it for RMB218 (the U.K. version is only RMB208, prob because it's smaller), which is roughly $28.80. Weird how an imported book is cheaper here than retail in America were it was supposedly imported from?

Also, if I wait a bit, I can get a fake copy off a street vendor in a few days for a fraction of the price. :D I bought the Half Blood Prince like that. They're very good copies. In fact, I'm not even sure if it's fake, but for the price, it seems like it is.

How much did you yanks pay for your copy?

For those HP early adopters, I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me.

I was thinking of getting the 8GB adult version. Would the 4GB children's version limit me in any way?

How durable is the cover? What book protectors do you recommend?

Is there any yellow tinting on the pages?

I wanted to get it at Barnes and Noble. Do they require a 2 year committment? Will Borders let me out of my contract early?

Should I get a book lamp so I can read in bed? What about the battery life?

Are there any cool mods out yet for the book?

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

You should wait for Revision B. Mine's got a bug - the cover's upside down. Probably going to send it back for repair/replace.

Wirelessly posted (LGE-VX9900/1.0 UP.Browser/6.2.3.2 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

i went 2 nights ago and got ahold of one of the boxes that said "dont open til july 21st" i didnt buy the book... I went to the opening for the buzz cuz my friends kid wanted to go.

My oldest son and I went to Borders for the Harry Potter thing. We were both disappointed to find out we wouldn't be able to get a Book until 4:00 in the morming. So we sat around looking at all the books we don't normally have time to look at. Then some lady said "Go to Meijers! There's no line over there!" So we went down the street to Meijers, got in line, and was walking out the door by 12:30. It was $20 for the copy. If we bought $30 in merchandise, other than the book, we could have gotten an addtional eight bucks off. BTW, I finished it Saturday night. Best book yet

There are a few small differences between the british and american versions, mostly just changing some of the specifically british language that americans may not be familiar with.

If you really want that cover, you can always just order the british version from the british amazon website. I have a set of the british versions (children's covers) I got that way. I think they did the adult covers because they thought some adults might not want to be seen reading in public with the illustrated ones, so they did more "serious" covers that don't stand out as much. In the USA, nobody seems to care much about the covers so I'm not surprised they haven't bothered with another version.

My wife's copy wasn't delivered today. So she went out and bought another copy:rolleyes:

I think with amazon if it wasn't delivered on time, either the shipping or even the book itself was free.

How much did you yanks pay for your copy?

Most places seem to have it around $21 USD. Doubt there are many, if any selling at $34.99. Those "fakes" you've seen are probably just the heavily discounted ones. And places like drugstores and grocery stores mostly have it, it's a convenient place to pick it up.

I finished the book sunday morning, by far the best of the series. Great ending and tied up all the loose ends amazingly well. Very impressive how obvious it was that she had the whole thing planned out in detail before the first book was even published. I can't think of another series that pulled that off as well.
