That's a horrible manager right there. Great for you but geez. Purposely selling an item as something else with the intention to get around Apple's mandate. Kudos to you if you get one. Just another reason for me to scowl at Walmart as a whole. What else is she willing to do to bend the rules?? :D

I'll believe it when I see pics

I work at a bookstore and we often have "Strict On Sale" releases. They're scanned into our inventory, so our customers can see that they're in stock when they do a search on our computers, but the books are in the back in sealed boxes until the release date.

However, I firmly believe that I should be there for the customer, not for the company. Our head manager frequently bends the rules to make customers happy. I just don't see why I should feel any affinity for a company that (at the top) sees me as little more than a number. I'd much rather make another human being happy.

That said, would I sell a customer an early copy of the next Harry Potter book? I don't know...probably not. I'm pretty sure a Wal-Mart did that out west for the Deathly Hallows and the store disappeared clean off the face of the earth (most likely by means of the dark arts).

If I were sure I could get away with it, though, then I'd probably go for it. Imagine how excited that customer would be! They'd probably be excited enough to come back the next day and tell me Snape kills Dumbledore!

My Wal Mart said they had 7 in stock, and won't sell until 5. What's interesting is that I know a manager there and she said even though it doesn't come out until 5, they CAN ring them up as an iPad 1 and they're stock will just show they have one more iPad 2 and one less iPad 1. They're the same price, and when inventory is done at the end of the day, it's seen as a minor mistake. They will simply switch the inventories and everything will be back to normal. With this said, I'm heading to Wal Mart right now, she said wait until March 11. And that it is.

Man... there are so many problems with this statement / manager. First, the 1st Generation iPad IS NOT the same price now - it is $100 less because of the Apple Discount (Most Walmart stores are showing this as the new price...). Second, unless the Inventory staff is failing to do their job too, then it will not be a 'minor mistake' this difference should be interpreted as a stolen iPad 2. Third, and finally, this violates the stores agreement with Apple and if it was ever traced (Because, as you say, they're going to recognize what happened at the end of the day and just 'fix' it anyway, unless, say, someone reports it up the chain) should result in her being fired.

hahaha... I'm just glad I finished all the Potter books a long LONG time ago, nice spoiler there! LOL

But seriously, as a manager, you have a responsibility to your customer but you know what, Apple is also the customer. They agreed to allow Walmart to sell a product and in doing so, Walmart agreed to abide by their rules. Do we all like these rules, hell no. But that's what they are. This manager (which I firmly believe is bogus) has no reason to appease the consumer in this situation. Why does the customer deserve to have it before 5pm?

I've managed two different wireless stores and this is the kind of stuff that really gets my blood boiling with incompetent leads/supervisors. They feel the customer is Always Right and that's simply not the case... sometimes they're flat out wrong. Some policies require them to be broken, this situation is not one of them.

I just got back from my Wal Mart. They had 3 iPads, all 32gb Black.

So, I went to buy one! However the register said no sale between 12AM - 5PM. We tried 2 registers and manager involved to no avail. =(

Hope this helps some of you

No go.

I just got off work at midnight, so I figured there might be some chance. No go. I only went to see because when I bought my Xbox 360 Elite system, they sold it to me 5 days early, but I believe that may have been before they implemented the time lock system. It was on the shelf, so I was told it was fair game. Apparently my walmart is pretty irresponsible or some crap. Either way, I had a smart cover in my hand, and the guy in electronics said I could buy it....but then it wouldn't ring. I figured this would be the case, but since it's on the way home and I have nothing better to do, I figured it was worth a shot.

The smart cover was poly, not leather....I'll be getting leather if I have the chance. The poly cover (at least the blue one I was fondling) was pretty ugly, IMO.

Wait, what?!? DUMBLEDORE DIES?!?

Called my Walmart just for grins. They have 3 in stock and won't sell til 5. Manager was clear and sounded rehearsed. I guess even people in my little town have been calling like crazy.

Wait... There's another Harry Potter book coming out?!?!? Will it be iPad only? :D

Oh yeah, definitely. Ms Rowling has been hanging around our store incessantly, all hopped up on caffeine from Starbucks––gotten rather annoying, to be honest. She's typing up the whole thing on her iPad, won't put the bloody thing down for a second, gets paranoid whenever anyone comes by, tries to cast magic spells on us. It's sad, really.

Indy Walmarts

Walmart @ Emerson/465 in Indianapolis.

Stated they have 2 32gig and will not sell till 5PM. Stated that other store has more.

Walmart @ Emerson/65 supposed to have more than other but could not tell me how many, same deal 5PM.

May try my luck at the Apple Store.

Called 3 here. All said 5 PM.

And then I asked if he could just ring up 629 dollars worth of snack-packs and he said...No.

I don't know. There's all kinds of sneaky things you can try in the middle of the night in cheesy department stores. :)
