Price doesn't bother me at all...

What bothers me like crazy is the PROCESSOR.

Why in the world apple decided to put 17 months old process or into new iPad mini.

Fail.... miserably fail.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has A5 processor since 2011. We are approaching November 2012.

Apple is so late with this thing. They should have put in at least A5X or A6.

Does this mean the ipad mini will perform the same as the ipad 3?

No, it will perform similarly to iPad 2.

I may consider iPad Mini when 2nd generation is released, presumably with retina display. I do a lot of reading on my iPad 3, and cannot imagine going back to non-retina display.

In terms of cpu performance yes. Im not to sure about graphics. The A5X has quad gpu cores but most of that power is consumed powering the extra pixels so in real world performance I think they would be similar for gpu as well.

I was so excited that Apple would be releasing an iPad Mini but was so disappointed when it was finally revealed today. $329 for an iPad 2 display, old processor and a 5MP camera? No thanks. Give me a Retina Display, A6 processor and a 10MP camera!

Why would they put a 10mp camera when they don't produce one right now? Your standards are way to high. You've been spoiled. A5 in the mini will be on par with the A5X in the iPad 3. Retina i can see your point though.

I was disappointed with the screen res and processor. Now that I know it will perform just about as good as my ipad 3 i think I'll get one. I really wish it had retina. Maybe next year i guess. i mostly use my for note taking, photo viewing, email, and web. I have always wanted a smaller form factor though. looking forward to getting it. how bad will the resolution be though?

based on PPI iPhone 3GS or so. Of course it's to to gauge until we can see it in person. Some PPI's look better than others.

I'm still on the fence whether I'd get the iPad mini or the new iPod Touch. I enjoy the retina display on the iPod touch, but screen size is important to me, since I already have a Nexus S as a daily driver (don't shoot me!). Big screen vs sharper screen. I'm just planning to use it for gaming or browsing the net, and I can't really figure out what I'll do.

I want one but don't need one at all. Argh! Especially not since I just bought a 'spensive MBA. Perhaps I could work it into the "I'll use it in my classroom" argument. Then wifey will tell me to take our iPad 1. Lol

You people don't even get it. Everyone chimes in that it's the "same iPad 2 display". Please. It's higher PPI, due to smaller size. It's a higher quality display, and it's in a device as thick as a pencil.

The iPad 2 and iPad 3 had similar benchmarks - the iPad Mini will likely be on par, or potentially a hair better due to a more efficient, redesigned A5.

There's also the 5MP camera, Facetime HD camera, 10 hour battery life, and the fact that it's less than half the weight of a full size iPad.

You're a damned meth head if you really thought they were going to give you a retina display and A6 in an iPad Mini for the $250 so many people are saying would be "fair".

And despite all the people bashing it, they'll sell like mad. So enjoy your bitching while other people enjoy their new Minis.

I'm extremely disappointed with Apple not releasing the Mini with a Retina display! My eyeballs aren't as good as they used to be and really need the pixel density.

Let's see, latest iPhone, retina. Latest iPad, retina. Latest MacBook, retina. iPad mini, NO retina? Huh? The only explanation for this is to have people buy this thing twice (when the iPad mini 2 comes out). I will not be one of them.

Battery performance.

That or they are super late releasing the production iteration of the device.

A refurbished iPad 3 for $369 is really tempting. I will have to see this Mini in person.

I want to let you in on a little secret. When it comes to Apple, everything a year later is obsolete by the OS standers.

im strictly talking about new versions of IOS and anything new they decide to implement that old specs "won't be able to handle." current gen specs would future proof the device for several years. (Example: certain functions of maps, siri, not working on certain iphones)

I'm thinking about selling my 64 gb iPad 2 and getting the mini. I actually think I might like the size better.

I guess I just expect that award winning innovation that Apple is known for that has been missing since Steve Jobs died. You cannot say that the iPad's photo and text quality wasn't mediocre before the Retina display. At least give people the option of a Retina display like they do with the Macbook/Macbook Pro series.

That's about as silly a statement as I've heard - For someone who has made a conscious decision never to own an iPad - why the hell are you hanging around the iPad forum?

If you are proud of yourself for your perfect timing in not having made a purchase before today's announcement - and are preparing to enter the arena of iPad ownership - boy what a waste - you missed what could have been a lot of fun over the last couple of years...

Because if you timed it right - buying and selling, the 4th generation unit wouldn't have costed much at all....

Just a weird comment.
A little over-sensitive, aren't we?

I think for the first time in quite a while Apple has dropped the ball. For the first time they do not have the best product in the class, even though they are charging as if it was. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone with an iPad (2nd or 3rd generation) would buy the mini. And I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone looking for a 7 inch tablet would buy the mini instead of any of the competitors.

I'll consider buying the iPad Mini 2 in May when it gets released with retina but in the meantime, this current version is a huge disappointment.

nope, i'm never buying a non-retina device

however i think non-retina devices are not bad at all

apple spoiled me

It's the typical upgrade cycle. You know apple is gonna release a retina mini. I'd rather wait if I do buy the mini.

Here's my mini rumor for 2013: mini, lighters, retina, faster, thinner, same battery life.
