I guess I just expect that award winning innovation that Apple is known for that has been missing since Steve Jobs died. You cannot say that the iPad's photo and text quality wasn't mediocre before the Retina display. At least give people the option of a Retina display like they do with the Macbook/Macbook Pro series.

Chill, people, you know apple. They'll release one with retina next yr.

You people don't even get it. Everyone chimes in that it's the "same iPad 2 display". Please. It's higher PPI, due to smaller size. It's a higher quality display, and it's in a device as thick as a pencil.
It's not an iPad 2 display. It's an iPhone 3GS display (same 163ppi), but probably with better contrast etc.

We... all buy... now... resistance is futile...
That's, for me, the irony. I used to be that way. Had to buy the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 plus the iPad 2 and 3 on release dates (or soon thereafter) but, for the first time in years, today's announcement has soured my stomache on Applesoft.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll still get the iPad4 within a week or two of release, but I just don't have that yearning in my gut for the iPad mini; in fact, I have no desire whatsoever for it.

I think for the first time in quite a while Apple has dropped the ball. For the first time they do not have the best product in the class, even though they are charging as if it was. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone with an iPad (2nd or 3rd generation) would buy the mini. And I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone looking for a 7 inch tablet would buy the mini instead of any of the competitors.

I'll consider buying the iPad Mini 2 in May when it gets released with retina but in the meantime, this current version is a huge disappointment.
Apple hands down has the best product. Any "avg" product would instantly be better than other tabs because it's backed by the Apple ecosystem. People will get all huffy and say they are doing this and that then they will see the N7 for themselves or buy it and regret it. At least with the KF tablet you get solid Amazon ecosystem with it.

A lot of people I have talked to are in that mindset. They expect to be blown away every product, it's just not going to happen anymore until they release some brand new product. Those new iMac's are sweet! New Mac Mini gets bumped pretty well too.

Here is the catch 22 I see with this. We don't need to buy a new Apple laptop every year, but why do we feel the need to buy the newest iOS device?? You get 2 or 3 years before you miss out on features form a new iOS. So it's ok to have a 2yr old laptop but not a 2yr old iPad that you just surf the web on?? No body needs balls out performance on a consumption device.

Price doesn't bother me at all...

What bothers me like crazy is the PROCESSOR.

Why in the world apple decided to put 17 months old process or into new iPad mini.

Fail.... miserably fail.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has A5 processor since 2011. We are approaching November 2012.

Apple is so late with this thing. They should have put in at least A5X or A6.

What bothers me is the earphone socket is at the top. ;)

I'm going to wait for the reviews and to see it in person. My iPad 1 crashes a lot these days, and I was planning to upgrade to either the iPad Mini this year (if I love it) or the iPad 4 next year (if I don't love the Mini) – but the iPad 4 has arrived early, so I'll be able to compare them directly sooner rather than later. I'll probably lean toward the iPad 4, though, because of its Retina display, better processor (and therefore longer usable life), and smaller price gap than I was expecting. Unlike many people, I don't find the iPad too big or heavy. I'm wondering how easy typing will be on the Mini. I'm assuming that photos and such will have less impact on the smaller screen of the Mini. The only factor that might sway me is if it will fit inside a jacket pocket. If not, and if it requires a "man purse" to carry it around, then it won't be any more portable than the full-size iPad.

I will be definitely buying an iPad Mini.. but I'm torn between either getting the New iPad Retina with the Faster A6X or the mini !

I'm going to buy one. I don't know why because I do have iPhone 5 and iPad but I think the smaller size could make it worth it.

I will admit, I wish it had retina display, A6, and 1 GB.

If it doesn't perform as good as my iPhone 5 I will probably return it but if it's as smooth then it's a keeper.

$329 isn't bad considering people pay $749 for iPhone 5s

Are you on board? I'm expecting lots of negativity but I want to read people who are buying it views.

Is this a serious post? If so, not with you. Ipad mini seems like more of an entry level product compared to iPad 4

199 is appropriate considering the low res low budget display.

That aside I will be dumping mine the moment they offer retina.

I sold mine today...want to be ready for what's next!!! (anxiously waiting with cash in hand now!)

Not a bad experience overall with the Mini I had...64gb bought off craigslist in Jan. for $500 and just sold it today for $450 plus a couple cases and a screen protector. Not a bad deal since it works out to about $10/mo on my end for ownership.

Its not either of those displays; unless you can prove its the same display unit but smaller the ppi does not make it the 3GS display. It's the iPad Mini 1 display.
