Got 11ProMax 8 days ago, camera is awesome, battery life is fantastic, love the screen size compared to X... those are my key points. Planning to get AW6 next year and skip iPhone 12, but we’ll see where we are in 12 months 😜😜

Honestly, I’m torn myself. I’ve been on an X since launch, and last year was the first time I didn’t sell my current iPhone and buy the new model. I really love the X. If anything, I’d love to upgrade for the cameras alone. Thing is, after using both the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max for 3-4 days each, I can’t yet get over the increased weight and/or size. Love the upgrade but I’ve gotten so used to the size & weight of the X. Would love to just hold on until the design update in 2020, but that camera was so useful for the week I used the Pro.

Do we really think we’ll have a major design change during an “S” cycle? Usually we don’t see design changes then. Isn’t it more likely we’ll get rid of the notch with the iPhone 12?

Gotta stop thinking about S cycles and names at this point. When it comes to design changes, We’re on the 3rd year of a 3 year design cycle (for the second time now - 6, 6s, 7 and then X, XS, 11).

Apple held back alot with this update so that is why i will wait.
- 120 hz display
- 5g
- reverse wireless charging
- better edgeless display (the iPhone has too thick bezels)
- do something about the notch.
- better bluetooth codec support (since Apple removed the headphone jack, atleast give us all the codec support?)
- more ram (give us real multitasking)
- usb-c

These are easy things to implement in the iPhone 12 based on what Android phones have right now. So I am a bit worried that if I spend $1500 on an iPhone Pro 11 Max, i will buy a new phone the next year again.
This is why I'm waiting for a 2020 upgrade. I can live with the beautiful photos taken of my XS Max 'till 2020.

X to 11 Pro Max , giving son my old phone he desperately needs and excuse for me to get a new phone.

New camera is worth it alone but I’m doing it mainly for larger display.

The night mode feature is the major selling point. General Photos don’t have to be taken in the ‘complete dark’ to appreciate this new feature, it could be a situation where dusk is setting in or the ambient lighting isn’t very good in the building/room. This was a kick needed improvement for the iPhone that should have been introduced at least a year back.

I'd have thought this would be an easy wait given what's in the rumour mill for next year? Only people who should really consider an upgrade this year are those on the upgrade program, those who update every year regardless, and maybe those who really can't last out another year on their current model (5S/ 6 users)?

Agreed on most points. But the night mode as shown in this post has really impressed me.

I really love my iPhone X. I wish I could upgrade battery and camera alone :D

Only reason I upgraded from xs max to pro 11 max is att is giving $450’off all iPhones on retentions deals. So $799 for 256gb iPhone 11 pro max 256gb on 2 year contract. I figure what the heck. I can always trade it to Apple for $600 credit next year and buy unlocked iPhone 2020 model

$450 off was major savings. And I’m not leaving att anytime so 2 year contracts is ok with me.

also got 2 iPhones 11 128gb ($1500-700 credit (new line) and $400 gift cards. That’s like $200/phone! And retentions essentially gave me the new line for free monthly cause the gave me $30/month off monthly forever. No brainer

Don‘t know why everyone’s hyping 5G up, it’ll be years before it’s actually decently usable. Heck, 4G is only just acceptable here!

Massive office building penetration issues that need to be worked out.

4G has been stable and good for nearly a decade now. Time to move ahead with 5G

The thing is, agreed 4G is consistent, but, 5G won’t have an immediate effect for everyone, it’s going to take time to be fully adopted before all the tangible benefits are available. It probably depends on your location and carrier obviously, but 5G is actually the last feature I have interest in when it comes to the 2020 iPhone.

It depends on which country. In Switzerland, we already have 5G in some areas, and it's due to grow within the next 1-2 years.

I just changed my vote. I thought I could hold out at least one more year with my X. But the Midnight Green Pro Max was calling my name so I kept checking the Apple Store app the past few days. One T-Mo version popped up in a store nearby so I joined iUP and picked it up last night.

I couldn't resist jumping back to a big phone again with a huge battery and upgrades I'll enjoy everyday.

Nothing enough in real world use w/ 11 or 11 pro vs. my X.

Take a new look sept. 2020.
Right there with you. Sure there are obvious improvements like the camera and it being slightly faster, but I’m really glad I was able to not give in and upgrade this year. Next year will be a much better upgrade.

I’ve had the X since launch. My Applecare + is expiring in November and I was also enchanted by the cameras, better battery, and faster speed of the iPhone 11 Pro. Yet, I just kept thinking the same things: I’m going to want to upgrade to the 12 next year (assuming the redesign isn’t ugly now that Johnny Ive is gone) for all of the features missing in the 11 Pro such as 5G, reverse wireless charging, etc. I feel like Apple held back a lot of great features for this year. The thing that helped me decide was going into an Apple Store and playing with an iPhone 11 Pro. At the end of the session, I didn’t feel like it was all that different from my X. I don’t see myself shooting a lot of shot-reverse shot videos or night mode photos and FaceID seems to be just speedy enough for me.

That said, if Apple gives a Black Friday discount or something, I’ll probably want to buy the 11 Pro again. I got the new Apple Watch 5 from the 2 series and that was a huge improvement! So I guess I satisfied my Apple addiction for now. :)

You can now renew AppleCare+ within 60 days of expiry. And renew it monthly. For ever.

I moved from X to 11ProMax, battery life and camera alone were worth it for me, and I enjoy the larger screen.
I get the 5G, but while at o’hare airport last week I got 100+ download which is more than satisfactory for me, in my home area, I get barely 2 bars and 1-2 download, 5G will take a long time to deploy, so don’t see the need for me yet, if that changes by the time iPhone 12 comes around... we’ll see

I upgraded from the X to the 11 Pro Max for the battery, bigger screen, and the cameras. Haven't regretted it at all, in fact, I'm even more impressed by the new phone than I thought I'd be. Check out the difference in this shot I just tried on both phones - maybe an extreme example but it gives you an idea of the massive improvements Apple has made to the cameras on the iPhone. This alone made the upgrade worthwhile, IMO. I didn't do any post-processing on these images - this is how they looked, as-shot.

If you would have just turned on the flash for the X it would be comparable.

Uh, iPhone 7? Apple is obviously on a three year cycle now. Just like how there was no 7S I doubt there will be a 11S.
