Of course each iteration will be better but the 11 Pro is basically a X with a better camera. Not enough.

You’d be surprised if you actually used a Pro for a day and see how wrong you are.

Not being tethered to a charger (as you would since the X batter is trash) is a mind-blowing experience.

Who wouldn’t want a better daily driver unless they can’t afford it?

Why does it have to come down to money? I have no issues affording a new one, just don't see the 11 as being a better 'daily driver as you put it. My Xs is already faster and more powerful than it needs to be to get things done.

Wave you willy in front of everyone all you want, but its a reflection on you, not others.

It is objectively better in every way. I don’t think owning a smartphone qualifies as “waving a willy” unless you’re in an extremely impoverished area.

I went from a 5S, to a launch X, and then a launch 11 Pro Max. I initially loved the form factor of the X, and while do-able, it wasn't very comfortable to use one-handed. I bought the 11 Pro Max because of the longer lasting battery and larger display, and I was also curious to try out the "Plus" form factor.

It also helped that when I switched from Verizon, T-Mobile sent me a $600 debit card to pay off my iPhone X ("Get out of the Red" promotion; it was an awesome deal) which essentially took care of the remaining balance with VZW. Then Apple gave me $400 trade-in credit when I got the 11 Pro Max. Calculating that I paid roughly $250 for my iPhone X 256gb for 23 months of ownership, I didn't consider the 11 Pro Max 256gb as a completely "new phone purchase" in the typical sense.

So far I'm loving the heft of the phone, the ease of two-thumb typing, the super bright display, amazing battery life, and it seems to run less hot (I don't use cases) on average. Also, Night Mode.

And that’s fine. You won’t need a new phone for years as your XS ‘is already faster and more powerful than it needs to be’. Go you.

These iPhones (and most smart phones) are pretty generic looking glass sandwiches. Willy-waving, as you put it, is driving a Ferrari, not having a non-descript phone in your pocket.

Elitism? LOL at the ‘man of the people’ with the £1000 iPhone XS.

Not really but if the X does everything you need...
Had the X for 2 years, have now had the 11P for two weeks. It is more than just a better camera.

Who wouldn’t want a better daily driver unless they can’t afford it? That’s what most of these posts are: ‘I can’t afford the new iPhone - please make me feel better about it’

Oh yes. The tired you can’t afford it nonsense. Not everyone needs or wants to blow their money on the latest and greatest iPhone if their current iPhone is holding up. The 11 Pro looks to be a great device but it’s just not compelling enough for me.

i bought a brand new X one year later in the year of the XS/XR
i am still 100% happy with it until maybe next years offering hopefully with a completely new design and return of Qualcomm modems as in my current X

in conclusion ....inline with the topic....i really did not struggle with this decision to keep holding on to my current iPhone X.

i would rather use that budget on an extra pair of top of the range bluetooth headphones that seem to be rocking the market endlessly

Yes, I have an iPhone Xs, upgraded from an iPhone 8, it was my choice. Elitism is not owning the phone, it is rationalizing someone not upgrading because they cannot afford it.

LOL - whatever. Enjoy.

Hey,

I know I know, this thread is kinda redundant, but still, would like to discuss this a bit with others who are potentially in my shoes.
Have an X, with Apple Care+ running out on November 2nd. (Important for resell value or to potentially swap it once for a new battery..)

I'm really tempted by the cameras in the 11pro, as I was already amazed by the better contrast and colors last year and the portrait mode in wide shots, that's something I really miss on my X.

I know myself though, that when Apple comes out next year with USB C and a notch-less design, I'll want to upgrade again.
So the question is, are you guys who feel the same holding out another year, or do you think it might be an option to trade up to the regular 11 for one year, to have the better camera always with me to keep those memories in the nicest possible way, or just bite the bullet, get the 11 pro and upgrade again next year? Or just to hold on to the X because, what does the better camera really matter after all...?
I should add that I really don't like the form factor of the regular 11.

What are your thoughts?

If the rumos of USB-C and notch-less design is whats in store for next year, I will probably upgrade then. If they continue with this "lets add a camera" upgrade, I will be holding on to my X until it no longer works.

Sorry to burst your bubble but notchless is not gonna happen.
A reduced notch? Yes

Not important to resell value, still 2year old handset. Mine doesn't have the AppleCare+ line tim's wallet feature anyways.

If it has USB-C I'll even pass next year. USB-C is hard to find in the wild. microUSB and Lightning are prevalent. And you don't gain anything except a weaker, more prone to breaking connector. The next iPhone needs to retain Lightning or go full Wireless ala AppleWatch for me to upgrade.

Portrait mode is a sham, software hack, that often introduces screwy distortions. If you are keeping 'memories in the nicest possible way' you aren't using portrait mode...

I had a battery problem on my iPhone X and as I was waiting for the repair in the Apple Store, I had the opportunity to play with an iPhone 11 Pro. It really felt like the only difference was the 3 cameras versus 2. The iPhone 11 Pro looks the same, feels the same, and runs the same software. The difference in processing speed was not noticeable in normal usage, and the battery life is just fine to get me through the day with the iPhone X that I did not see the benefit of getting the 11 Pro. I didn't get to try out Night Mode but I don't take that many photos at night anyway. Given that the 12 is supposed to be a big upgrade in terms of form factor, camera, processors, and 5G, I don't think it makes sense for me to upgrade from a X to 11 Pro. Now my dad who is using an iPhone 7? He should upgrade to an 11 Pro.
