Why wouldn't it make sense? Not everyone wants to buy high-end devices, sell them for losses so they can buy the new version every year. That's a fool's game to those who don't particularly like throwing away their money on stuff that's outdated from the moment of purchase.

Yup to all those enjoying their minis (including myself) - I'll definitely upgrade to retina if the form factor (ie - weight, weight, weight especially) remains the same. In the meantime I'm loving my new mini, I've been waiting a long time for something lightweight enough to suit my needs, so I jumped on this! :)

Resolution is not my main reason for purchasing, if it was, I'd have gotten a 4.

I'm not buying a new car this year because next year it won't be worth as much or have the latest features. Rinse Repeat.

I love the new mini. Got rid of my Retina ipad for it. Only took 10 minutes of playing with it to realize the size/weight were way more important than Retina.

Besides, I pay 329 for the mini. I sell it for 200 in a year. I just paid $10/month to have the latest and greatest technology. I repeat every year and always have the newest items for $10/month. And honestly I think I could sell the thing for $240 in a year, so thats even less per month.

And the cycle goes on.......

If and when Apple releases an iPad mini with a retina display I will probably pick one up then. I just bought the iPad mini yesterday and already love it, size weight, form factor all better than the iPad 3 I also have. The retina display is nice on the iPad 3, but the mini's screen is still nice and not a deal breaker in buying the mini now.

Since Apple has not announced any updates to the iPad mini it is just speculation as to when it will show up with a retina display. In the mean time I will enjoy my mini now and when the retina version comes out I will update it at that time.

But then next year when the retina iPad mini comes out they will be speculating on the next version after that and then people will be agonizing over that prospect. Life is short, live it now not on what specs may or may not be added in the future.

Or, stick with your iPad3....just sayin'....

Better title of this thread: Who's not buying a car and instead waiting for Jetson-like people hovercrafts.

And when the mini eventually gets retina, the full-sized iPad will also get some cool new feature all it's own. And the "buy-or-wait" angst will begin again.

"A bird in the hand...", as they say.

Wirelessly posted

I'm in the waiting band wagon. What sucks is that I am not upgrading due to this very issue and really want to make a point with Apple by not supporting it with my wallet. However, I am caught in Apple's trap since it is the holidays and the price point makes it an excellent gift. I am going to buy two for my kids but I don't plan on replacing my 3 with it. Not until retina is out.

Me! Right now I have an iPhone 5 32 GB and a Retina iPad 3 64GB LTE (4 is coming next week). I went and saw the mini and I love the form factor but not the resolution. My long term plan is to wait for the iPad mini with Retina, and that will become my main portable iPad with LTE, and then trade in my 10" Ipad LTE for a WiFi version and just keep it at home mostly.

No. I'll just buy the retina version when it comes out.

In the mean time, I'm enjoying my iPad Mini. My favorite tablet so far.

Life is too short.

+1

It's not like I can't sell my 64GB, I went back to mini I couldn't justify paying $300+ for an iPod.

Typing on my wifi mini now which I have had no problems with. I will wait and see what comes out next year because the next version may not have retina either. If it does then I will sell this one or give it away to a family member and buy a retina mini with LTE. If it doesn't then I will keep this one and purchase my first full sized iPad to use at home and the mini to take with me when I leave the house.

I switched out my iPad 2 for the mini because of the form factor and weight, and I couldn't be happier. If the retina mini comes out, I might buy it, but it really depends on what other feature they've added. I never upgraded to the 3 because all it had different was the retina, and I probably would not have upgraded to the 4 (A6X and lightning seemed to be the only differences, and while more compelling, they were not worth the time/money needed to upgrade).

For me, functionality beats "pretty" any day.

I'm not waiting for it. I'm going to enjoy my mini now and when retina comes out, I'll sell this one and get that one. Life is too short and I'd like to enjoy things any way I can and not sit on the bench and wait. The mini does everything I need it to do TODAY and the retina will be no different if and when it comes out.

Problem with that is that for some of us, retina is a part of functionality.

Quite right. I read long-form documents on my iPhone because the retina display makes it possible to easily resolve very tiny text. Doing the same on a non-retina display would be painful, if not impossible.

I'm happy with my mini now, I'm enjoying the small form factor it does everything I want it too. I see no reason to hold off. If in the future apple does release an retina iPad mini then I'll sell this one and buy that - if I want it.

I'm enjoying this now, and see now real advantage in waiting.

I know I'll probably get a lot of flak for this, but who's waiting for the iPad Mini with Retina display? I took a look at the Mini in the Apple Store, and I could only think of three things:
  1. omfg pixels
  2. omfg 2 year old components
  3. omfg Retina & A6 next year
So who else is waiting for Apple's iPad Mini refresh next year? If we were talking about the Asus Nexus 7 or something, I would just buy it - but this is a significant, $350+ investment.

Omfg Retina & A5X/A6X. I fixed it for you.

It will definitely be more tempting than the current gen.

For $350 w/ tax, it better be retina. I just see myself always going for the 10" at home.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the mini is retina next year. The current hardware is already more expensive to build than Apple would like.
