15'' Macbook Pro

The first intel mac that Apple released. 2.0 Core Duo 2GB Ram 100GB 7200RPM drive. I maxed it out for a total cost of $2,500!

It's got some problems. Left fan is busted. It needs a new battery. Trackpad sticks. Top is dented. Superdrive stopped working. Oh, and I never got Applecare with it. It's lasted me a long time though, and it was a great first mac.

you know whats the best part? theres like no difference really between a cd blackbook and the newest mb's in day to day usage

True enough. For day-to-day tasks, any notebook made in the last four or five years should be fine. That will slowly change as internet connections become faster and more and more HD content goes to online streaming, but for most things, my old MB chugs along quite nicely.

But I've been getting deeper and deeper into CS4 lately, and my trusty little notebook has been struggling a little bit to run Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop concurrently. I'm also getting into photography, and will probably invest in Aperture or Lightroom eventually. And while my machine handles FCE without much trouble, I'd appreciate some more oomph. Plus my battery is in rough shape, and I love the idea of a 7-hour battery. That's what's pushing me over the edge.

I think I'd be perfectly content if I could upgrade my machine past 2GB of RAM, but sadly the CoreDuo machines cap out there. :(

Was using a CD 1.83 iMac as my main machine until picking up a 13'' MBP last week. Still works great for most daily use, but was starting to show signs of it's age a bit. Applecare just ran out too :(

It's in the bedroom now until I decide whether to use it as a mini media center in there or ebay it.

It's not exactly a Macbook but I'm still using my Powerbook with its 1.83 Core Duo. Does that count?

Just sold mine. It was still rockin but wanted to sell while I could still get good $ for it. I think Snow Leopard + recent cuts in MBP prices is going to kill the value of CD MB and MBPs. The only thing that hurts is no more matte screen. I really hate how Apple is consistently dumbing down the MBP into a true consumer notebook.

Agree. I have a year old C2D MBP. 512 MB VRAM, 2.6 GHz, and a matte screen. A 15" pro series Mac laptop has been my main machine since ~2002. Update about once a year (through work). Now, I will really hesitate to buy another till they get the matte screen back.

I'm not using it, it's been downgraded to secondary machine, but my girlfriend uses it almost daily. My very first mac; original 2.0GHz Core Duo, maxed out with 2GB RAM and a 100GB 7200RPM HDD, for a whopping $2500 in May 2006.

Superdrive also is not so super, doesn't burn DVDs.
Dent in the lid.
Miscellaneous scratches all over.
The tabs that hold the palm rest to the bottom case broke off in a fall, and thus, the computer is being held shut with packing tape until a Core Duo palm rest on eBay.

It's currently for sale, and I have someone telling me that they'll be buying it soon, but we all know how that goes.

Still rockin' on with my Core Duo 15" from about the fifth week of production.

Six months ago, I upgraded the hard drive from 100GB 7200RPM to 320GB 7200RPM, and plonked a second gig of RAM into it. It works beautifully for what I need it to do (MS Word, internet, iTunes and Adium).

Mind you, it's now on battery number three, power brick number three, logic board number two and top case number two...

However, it works well and I have no plans to upgrade until one of the following occurs:
1) I am maxing the CPU out regularly (currently hardly ever; the original Core Duos remain quite powerful beasts)
2) I am maxing the RAM out regularly (I typically get to between 1GB and 1.5GB)
3) Something expensive dies (i.e. the logic board or the screen)
4) I can't upgrade the OS (Snow Leopard seems good to go; 10.7 is uncertain, but won't be out for at least 18 months I'm guessing)
5) I enter the last six months at uni and need to grab an ADC student membership (this is in late 2012, by which time my MBP will be 6.5 years old).
