I have a 64GB phone now after upgrading from a 32GB. I was usually around 6GB free on my previous phone and it's nice having the extra space. I'm around 35Gb free now and even with Live Photos, 1080p video, and 1,100 songs I'm comfortable with that capacity for the next couple of years. I don't take a whole lot of photos and I don't keep video like movies or TV shows on my phone so I expect 64GB will be more than enough for my needs.

If I could afford a 256GB iPhone I would probably buy one, even if I don't think I'd ever fill it, because why not right? You can never go wrong with more storage. However a 64GB device meets my needs and budget so I'm pretty happy with it.

What I said has been a long standing general rule in tech. Obviously everyone is different, but as a general rule the biggest capacity you can afford is good idea. I stand by that and I guarantee that people will back me up here.

Here, you're also going to find more than you're average amount of power users and enthusiasts. I mean, this is a forum for tech enthusiasts, specifically iPhone enthusiasts.

You're right that you can't really go wrong if you always go for the highest capacity you can, but that's because many people don't really know their own needs, aren't realistic about them, or have no understanding of the capacities.

Why 256? Because Apple isn't offering 512 or 1 TB.

I can respect that people don't need/want as much space but I don't want to be forced to stream or use the cloud. I don't want to be forced to choose which movies I put on my phone since I never know what I'll be in the mood for. I like having all my photos on my phone to flip through when I have time or to let my three year old flip through to remember past events.

My photo collection is pushing 40gb by itself and will grow faster with raw shooting. Overall I'm left with 6 gb on my 128 gb phone and that's because I had to cut items.
