Why 3GB in plus model

Where is the proof that 3 gb ram is there? No one truly knows.....

Maybe Apple will add more software features to the Plus at a later time like the Bokeh feature.
Anyway 3gb is always welcome. Makes the phone more future proof for longer.
Imagine the performance of the 1gb phones over the next iOS update or 2!

Portrait mode will require keeping two 12MP images in RAM, plus a depth map, a 12MP output image, and other data... That's probably not a GB of data by itself, but maybe thats enough to cross some threshold. I'd be surprised if they put 3GB in as a status feature of the Plus, because it would just invite people to complain about not enough RAM in the other models...

I didn't think about the extra RAM for future iOS - will be very helpful.

Theoretically yes cause you can't turn it off like you can Bluetooth. However it would be minimal if any.
It all depends on packaging. 1gb x3, 1.5gb x2, or 3gb x1.
The first option would drain the most and the last option would drain the least given that they operate at a similar voltage.
Or if Apple were stupid and wanted to waste more power, they could use 1gb + 2gb.
Regardless mobile devices use ultra low voltage packaging (ULV).
