Yep so glad I upgraded to iOS 8 its much better.
Well…here's the thing…

I don't care for iOS 7 already. iOS 8 seems to be an improvement and I would have upgraded awhile back (I'd rather downgrade to iOS 6 though) except for one problem.

The developer of BiteSMS, a Cydia tweak that replaces the Messages app and for which I have paid for, left the company. Currently there are no plans to ugrade BiteSMS to iOS 8 and while there are other tweaks that do the job, none of them work like BiteSMS. So, if I upgraded I would lose the ability to use that tweak.

Eclipse, Monochrome and Color Profiles have effectively killed 99% of iOS 7's PlaySkool/Graaco interface for me so losing BiteSMS wasn't worth it.

I'll stay here for now. Unless a miracle happens and Apple signs iOS 6 again, in which case I have backups of my old stuff ready to go.

While Space Gray is popular as you said, I would argue that it's only because it's the closest anyone can get to black when black is no longer offered. Not that there aren't fans of Space Gray over black. But I know some people settled because Space Gray was all they could get.

Except when the 5s debuted, Space Gray wasn't that popular compared to Black and Slate and many people opted for Gold. This year with the 6/6+, the least popular kid of the block (Space Gray) is now the most popular, as more people are put off by the white antenna bands and the more saturated gold color (compared to champagne in last year's Gold).

Yick... don't care for the gold phone...

I think people were expecting a certain color when Apple said "Gold". When it turned out to be more champagne in color…

In any case, the lack of Black/Slate was what ultimately killed my decision to purchase the 5s. I know it's popular now, but it seems I tend to be in the minority around here.

I'm comfortable with that.

I just upgraded my i5 to an i6. Although I loved the i5, I'm loving this i6 even more. I threw an Apple leather case on it, and now it's a classy little piece of machinery! Love the bigger screen real estate. And the speed of the phone is unreal. Light years ahead of my i5. So all in all, I'm happy. The i5 was good, but the i6 is even better!!

I have my 2 year rebate ready to use but I haven't upgraded yet, as my iPhone 5 is still perfectly good. I prefer it's smaller form factor, and the fact that its thicker and more durable, because it's on me when I cycle. I can put it in the back pocket and sit on it, and don't have to worry about it. Performance wise its still good, never been in a situation where it seemed too slow.

I'll probably upgrade when they release the next gen, because eventually the performance won't cut it anymore. I just wish they kept the same look/form factor/thickness.

I disagree. I have no case for my iPhone 5 and the anodization has kept well as long as I've kept if off rough surfaces and in a pocket when out.

As to the anodiazation of the 5s, I would argue that simply anodizing the shell for less time is not a solution to the problem. And it results in Space Gray and not Black.

There are some people who really do hate Space Gray.

As for being a flop for QC, I do actually agree with you. Had Apple chosen a better (more expensive) anodization route this never would have been an issue.

Have you seen the custom 6plus shell thread going around?

Well, it's not a case. It's the entire chassis! I will try and find the thread.
Interesting! Thanks for the heads up!

I had heard awhile back in another thread about an anodization process for the 6/6+ that essentially gave you a black casing, but when asked to show that I couldn't find the thread. I wonder if we might be thinking of the same thing?

Oh awesome! Your link is a different thread then the one I was thinking of, but that's very cool!

I've mentioned in the past and I will say again that I'd be much more inclined to get a 6 or 6+ if I could get it in black. A Neucase Black Matte looks very, very nice. They even manage to make the antenna bands look good by darkening them up.

Way cool! Thanks!!!

I hate to break it to you but Apple doesn't need to listen to consumers like you because you are in the extreme minority. They are selling the 6 and 6 plus in record numbers and the days of chip-able iPhone 5's is gladly over. The secondhand market is your best bet and I hope you find the model you prefer.

This is the best comment I've seen in this thread so far.

I hated iOS 7 at first, with a strong passion lol. Now it's grown on me, except for the hideous look. I really do enjoy the features they implemented. 7.1.2 runs exceptionally well on my 5S, so I won't ever change it. But unfortunately, more and more apps are beginning to require iOS 8.1. That's ridiculous, IMO.

I'd imagine iOS 6 would be even worse. If you have had an iPhone 5 all this time with iOS 6 then you'd be fine, but getting a brand new one and trying to get all your apps on it may be a problem. :/

It's ridiculous that app developers don't want to support a year and a half old OS that is losing it's already small market share day by day?

Exactly my experience, YMMV etc. etc.

I decided not to upgrade my iPhone 5 to the iPhone 6. Sure the iPhone 6 is great, and very fast, and I would like to have the touch ID, but the iPhone 5 is still fast enough. It is a great device and I am glad to have bought it when it was released.

And honestly I feel that, despite being great, the iPhone 6 could have been even better (more RAM, better screen resolution, and so on).

Why did I choose coffee over tea today?

I went from the 4S to the 6 and it's been wonderful. It took some getting used to, but overall, I'm happy. I'm using my 4S right now as a security camera and it basically feels like a tic tac in my hand.

When purchasing my first smartphone, I bought the 5s. It was significantly less expensive than the 6, and I belt carry my phone so I liked the smaller size of the 5s better. Also I liked the thicker construction of the 5s as I felt it would be more durable.

However, next time around I think I will be more than ready for the larger screen of the 6, and I'm thinking that a thicker less flexible case will satisfy my need for a thicker more durable phone. The good thing is, after using this phone for over a month, I'm really happy that I chose the Apple Iphone over an android system phone!:)

Yes, yes it is. Not everyone wants to upgrade and those customers choosing not to, should not have to suffer for it. Besides, updates are doing nothing but making older devices slower and laggy. All of more reason NOT to upgrade. Best to leave that iOS device with its original software on it.

Its funny how an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1 seems much more responsive and fluid than an iPhone 6 huge running 8.1.2. Hmmmmm....

I am not sure that is the case. If it is, I think most developers do it for money first and love second. Perhaps people on older OS don't buy apps as often as people on newer OS.

I think if there is money to be made, developers would support PalmOS still.
