Why do we care? What's on it that the TV Launcher & the individual streaming apps don't do?
One self contained app and not multiple apps for a start.
Have access to all the BBC radio stations.
There are no live channels via the U app on Apple TV, used to like watching Dave.

& you'd pay £10/mth for it on top of the licence fee?

Nah, it's niche, if someone's hosting the content they'll want paid & you'll never get the BBC Radio stations on AppleTV in its current format - the cost is too high for Apple, which is why they were pulled, come to think of it, it's probably the reason there's no freely app.

I've got a HDHomerun which does the aerial thing, but tbh since launcher (& even before that) the tv apps suffice.

Regarding the Puck-the sub is only for certain content and cloud gaming.

I mean we’re at a standoff aren’t we? Those of us with our ATV’s of this world just want an app while EveryoneTV wants people buying those TVs.

So all in all everyone loses.
If the subscription is just for additional content and gaming, then they really need to get a better website. I'm someone that checks for asterisks and footnotes, and reading the website it comes across as there being a £10/month fee. I would have thought if the Freely aspect was free, they would have lead with than and hidden the monthly fee in smaller text somewhere.

I sort of get it that the TV makers are probably only agreeing to take Freely if isn't applied to exisiting systems so they can sell more TVs, but Everyone TV - being run by the broadcasters - presumably just wants more people to have access to the service so they can show more ads and generate more revenue and the fastest way to do that is to release an App and an update for existing TVs (although this is likely limited by the processing power and storage on the TV).

Honestly, I think the broadcasters are fighting a loosing battle unless they push something through tothe mass market quickly. Every year that passes, more and more people move away from linear TV to streaming and, not wanting to be morbid, more and more older people that are stalwart linear TV viewers die.
