I thought they were going to announce the new ipad a week or two after the iphone event.

Are there any updates? I haven't seen any recent leaks.

Chances are Ipad 5 was well in development long before the Iphone 5 plus it's the big selling point of the 5S so like Siri I reckon no fingerprint sensor until Ipad 6th generation earliest.

Also I expect the camera to stay 5mp.

I reckon it will have A7 + a new shell.

The iPad 4 released after the iPhone 5, so the 5S has been in development longer than the iPad 5.

That's not how it works. There are probably at least two generations of devices in development at any given time, most likely three to five. I'd say that currently Apple is working on at least iPhones 6, 6S and 7.

True, but the claim that iPad 5 won't get Touch ID because it's been in development longer than iPhone 5S is what I was trying to refute.

How does anyone know what's actually in the iPad 5. I thought it wasn't being announced / released until the October event and that rumors are just rumors.

^^This. Apple love to drip feed features.

Lightning came out on each device at it was updated because Apple wanted it adpated as quickly as possible. They spent a lot of money on TouchID aquisition and development so they'll want it widely adopted as well. Its not like Retina where each size screen has to be developed separately.

I disagree with most of your points.

"Chances are Ipad 5 was well in development long before the Iphone 5" - Why? They are each released on a yearly schedule. There's no evidence to suggest the iPads are planned further ahead than the iPhones.

"plus it's the big selling point of the 5S" - If it's the big selling point of the 5s, it would be the big selling point of the iPad 5 if it was included too.

Think its more likely supply constraints that will stop them putting it in the ipad this generation.

So why didn’t they put it in the 5C?

Well my guess is that the iPad 5 will have Touch ID but the mini will not. After all, it's home button is smaller on the gen 1 device.

Because it doesn't have new internals and they wanted to highlight the 5S as a flagship phone. The iPad 2, iPod and 4S didn't get lightning for that reason as well. Do you not think the iPad 5 is their flagship tablet?

Maybe you’re right, I don't want to start an argument. But, you did say that Apple would want to get it adopted as widely as possible, so the iPhone 5C seemed like an obvious candidate to me, especially given its price point.

I’ll be buying an iPad 5 as soon as they’re available, so I would love it to have Touch ID. Maybe I’m just trying to convince myself that it won't :p

No argument here and you have a good point. The 5C having old internals is important because it doesn't have the A7 chip which stores the data; if the 5C were a 5S with a plastic back it would. Kind of how the 4S doesn't get AirDrop because it doesn't have the proper wifi hardware. The iPad 5 is bound to get the A7 or A7X so it will have the proper hardware. If the Mini 2 gets the A6 it will not have TouchID unless Apple makes a version of the A6 that can store the data.

I edited my comment to sound less mean, sorry for the original reply.

I think it will have Touch ID, A7X + mini-style chassis, 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, etc.

If Apple would ever get around to allowing multiple user accounts on iPads, it would be a great use for the fingerprint sensor.

I hear people complaining about this alot... how is an iPad suppose to save all of that data?

If it's anything that comes close to saving all the settings, apps, photo's, music, and iMessages, profiles would eventually become way to big. It would probably then become a feature unavailable for 16GB users at the very least, because that's never going to cut it. But still 32 and 64GB are tight spots. You need to think this all the way through, I am certain apple has thinkered with the idea, but if Windows is any indication, have user profiles grow and grow leads to very bad things.

I hear what you're saying but if a 16gb is good enough for one person, surely a 32gb 64gb or 128Gb is good enough for two? Could also simply be a main user and a guest account.

The problems that arise with this simple way of thinking is, that while an iPad is now only for 1 user there's no reason for the system to conserve space. While when having multiple accounts/profiles you have to have space ready to be used, incase it is needed. Also what are you going to do on a "guest" account that you can't already be achieved on someone elses iPad by default? The iPad itself and the OS on it weren't designed to be used by multiple users. It just breaks down the simplicity apple has put into device and would cause problems beyond repair.
