Apple just can’t match 7 generations of foldables on the 1st try. Wait 3 generations to have a semi mature product. Apple is sinking outside USA.

Every single model of iPhone they make today is impossible to use one handed unless you are a basketball player anyway.
I comfortably use my 16PM one handed, have rather average size hands, and am not nearly coordinated enough to play a sports ball. Could you be holding it wrong?

Dear MacRumors, do you read your own forum? Since May 2025 this has been pretty clear and iZac already made some amazing renders back then in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/rumoured-iphone-fold-size-concept-drawing-and-renders.2456447/

9to5 Mac is exactly the same.

I've been talking about this for at least 3 months over there. Posting images and mockups I've done. Talked about how other people have been doing things in macrumors.

nothing... crickets.

some guy posts a vague thing on x or whatever and all of a sudden it's news.

All of this has been obvious to anyone with basic critical thinking skills since the rumored sizes came out a long time ago. It was obvious that just physically a tall aspect outer screen doesn't work with an iPad aspect inner screen. It's really frustrating that there's no one on either of these sites looking at their own commenters and forums.

If that's true, the aspect ratio of the front screen would be really awkward. If the plan is to render native iPhone apps in there, the results will be unexpected without developer action/work. Well developed SwiftUI apps should be able to stretch automatically, but a lot of space will be wasted in an already small screen.

Let's see how much this require work from the developers because at that price point, maybe is not very interesting unless the changes are minimal.
They've been laying the groundwork for this for years, so if apps aren't optimized by the time this thing launches, that will be squarely on the developer.

But you’re ignoring the fact that it is not a small screen, at all.
The actual screen area will likely be closer to a 17Pro than a 12 Mini.
And the weight Similar to a Pro Max.
It's like saying the iPad Mini and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are only 1.4 inches different, technically correct only if you are measuring the Diagonal corner to corner screen, but in terms of actual screen area the iPad Mini is significantly bigger with almost double the amount of usable screen area.
I'm ignoring the fact that it's "not a small screen" because I don't care if it's a small screen. I care if I can use it single-handed and how it fits in my pocket. If it's wider, but shorter, I may still be able to use it with one hand. And if that's the case, it's a good size, no matter how large or small the screen is.

I like the aspect ratios of both screens. I won't be buying the first version, but will be interested to see if the actual device is close to these renders.

Now, I want a "air" style, or even pro style non-foldable phone with the screen the outer 5.3" screen of this iPhone Fold, that would be just awesome

The only problem with those mockups that I can see is that the phone is way too wide when it is closed, in my opinion anyway. It appears to be almost a 1/4 inch wider than the iPhone PM.

This device will be amazing to type on when folded. That wide screen is going to allow for a great keyboard experience.

I think browsing too will be great when folded. Keep in mind a wide rectangle is superior to view the web on versus a tall and narrow slab smartphone.

I have no worries for the folded state of this future device.
seems like it may be the same width as the Air when closed but significantly shorter. I'd expect the same scaling as the Air, so it will likely be the same as typing on it but with much less displayed above the keyboard. Maybe still fine for single line inputs, but anything with multiple lines of text and controls is going to feel cramped.

Much wider than the Air, if the rumoured sizes and aspect ratios are correct we are looking at 5-6 mm wider than the 17 Pro Max.

As older phones with smaller screen sizes drop off in usage, developers get more comfortable assuming a certain minimum display size, and roughly the same aspect ratio across them which seems to have settled to about 21:9. This looks like it'll be a roughly 2:3 aspect ratio when closed, which a lot of apps might not be geared for. Picture your typical Tiktok video on this thing, with either black bars on the sides or the top and bottom cropped off.

I mean the wisdom has always been “never buy a first revision Apple product” (though in this case personally I might)
Apple is sinking outside USA.
Didnt their global marketshare actually rise last quarter, both from the previous quarter and YoY?
