When I was in line, I was using my phone I've had for about 5-6 years and everyone thought it was the most interesting phone ever. How it had buttons and no camera. I found it pretty entertaining...probably should have sold it as "vintage"

I know there's already a thread on "crazy people who waited in line". I am one of them still waiting to own my first iPhone.

Maybe, I'm just a little jealous since I had 2 unsuccessful attempts in getting a 16GB Black. Also, the irony of having an iPhone to pass the time would have come in handy while being on line for so long ;)

My question is why are current iPhone 2G owners waiting in line for the iPhone 3G instead of waiting a week or so when it's an easier buying experience?

for the ladies!!!!! Bong chica Wa Wa.

My wife lost her phone, we would not be able to get a subsidied phone for her, so it was a perfect opportunity to upgrade. And I am older and wiser, but no more patient.

Ok, these are all reasons to upgrade, but that wasn't the question.

The question is, why couldn't you wait 4 or 5 more days for these things?

Your list of reasons is consists entirely of "I could do x before, but now I can do x faster/better/nicer."

My reaons for standing in line is that "I can now do x, y, z, and a, b, c, and d now whereas before I couldn't do them at all."

I can see waiting 4 hours in line to gain a ton of new features. I can't see waiting 4 hours to get a faster/better version of what I already have. Why not just go this Wednesday?

That's the question, and nothing in your post addresses that.

Yeah sorry, I didn't address the issue. Well I'll tell you I got in line at 5:30am and I was about 25th and was out of the store by 9am on Friday. So 3 1/2 hours, not all that bad. I had my Macbook so I was doing some research whilst I waited.

But to answer your question, I did, in fact do just that, and wait for the first gen. I bought my iPhone about 2 weeks after it came out. I definitely could have waited this time around, but I just wanted to get it right away. I expected Apple to have a good supply, but you never know.

It's basically impatience; being excited about a new product and being a typical American and wanting the newest and best first. Truly, the iPhone is the only thing I have done this for. I hold on to my computers for years. I buy things to keep them until they die. So, for once, with a cracked iPhone, I decided to be impulsive and stupid, really. I doubt I would have been in line if my iPhone wasn't cracked. I couldn't justify buying a new phone when I have a perfectly good phone in my pocket; well at least not right away. I'm sure I would have inevitably given in within a few weeks and bought it, but it made it easy with the crack. So I guess I don't have a very good answer to that question. After using the iPhone for a year, knowing all of the new features would make it SO much more usable, I just wanted to get it right away; let myself really get caught up in the whole experience for a change and have some fun with it, living in the moment for once.
