The new “SE” is basically an iPhone 8. Too big for me.

My Apple Watch has cell service enabled. About to buy an iPad Pro, with cell enabled.

Do I really even need an iPhone anymore? Maybe I’ll let my SE die, and not replace it.

Because I think in the same way that 5/5S users were excited for their fave form factor to get an update, the same applies to some 6/6S/7/8 users this time around.

When the 6S was announced they killed the 5 form factor. People were upset, and then Apple brought it back with the SE.

This doesn't apply to the 6/7/8 design. You can still buy the 8, but the newer designs are pretty well accepted by now.
I imagine this has something to do with smaller bezels seeming like an objectively more efficient use of space, while the larger screens from 5->6 was more of a luxury some people didn't care for. I'm sure a few people like the big bezels, but for most people it's a massive waste of space that no other phone has had for years.

I might get one, but I'm really hoping they will sneak in a change here.

Your post reminds me that I use the SE to read the Watch’s sleep data. Hmmm, maybe the new new discount phone will be my ticket, despite it being bigger.
There should be a watch and health app for the ipad, which others have also suggested on similar threads. People are starting to realise that we don't necessarily need an iphone anymore if the watch and ipad have cellular data.

Yeah, you do. The iPhone is needed for the AppleWatch phone number.

Doesn't the Apple Watch actually have it's own cell phone number? That was my understanding the the LTE variant. It uses your cell phone number when they are in close proximity, but when you leave the house it actually has its own number.

That is one of the complaints I have heard from people. You actually need to give people your Apple Watch number if you plan to leave the house with just your watch.

It's literally the same situation when the SE was announced. The 5S was still available alongside the 6S, and was available up till the day that the SE was launched. Just like how the 8 remained on sale when the 11 and 11 Pro were launched, so when the 9/SE 2 launches it will again most likely replace the 8 in the lineup just like how the SE replaced the 5S in the lineup.

Not accurate. The watch uses the same number as the phone. The cell company assigns a number to the watch that is only used by the cell company for usage identification purposes.

That's dumb. Why would you want a phone 2.5 year old silicon for roughly the same price (or less... presumably) than the new SE? 8 will probably only wee 2 more years of major (yearly) iOS releases.

I could not care less about specs as long as it meets my needs.

I’m becoming more interested. I was very interested in the plus, but I may pick up the 4.7” model if it has as good/better battery life than my 8+. I’d also strongly consider it if Apple produces a smart battery case for it.

Sure, but a phone with newer specs will meet your needs for longer. (Unless you don’t plan to update the OS, in which case they should meet your needs for the same amount of time.)

I doubt it will have battery life as good as a iphone 8 plus with 100% battery capacity, but with the A13 optimisations it will be better than a regular iphone 8. Hopefully im wrong and its on par with 8+ as im getting the new SE to replace my own 8+!

You need the phone for the AW to work.

Also, someone here likes to live their entire life on speakerphone for everyone to hear.

Why is there excitement for any iPhone release? That’s the answer to this question.

I mainly a latest and greatest person, but this iPhone still has my interests. I also like TouchID and the home button, but I don’t mind FaceID and no bezels, but they’re not a necessity for me. There are many people out there like myself. However, there is even more people out there that just wants an iPhone and don’t want to pay $700 or $1,000 or even $1,100 for one.

You have grandmothers, grandfathers, middle aged and school kids that will buy this phone. When an iPhone is released for ~$400 it’s worth excitement... especially one with “flagship” specs... even if the looks of it may be from 2014... SO WHAT?

I wish the Apple Stores were open next week, so that I could have them install the Belkin screen protector with their machine. I usually get that done the day I receive the phone.

My fellow forum members need to practice social distancing tomorrow, and give me time to order the phone, before many of you get too close and slow things down for me.

Neither iPhone XR nor iPhone 11 saw any delays for ordering customers. With production back to normal, I doubt demand will exceed supply any time soon.

I think the new SE/9/whatever name iPhone will be a success story. Especially at the right price.

Perfect for us still clinging onto our rapidly ageing 6/6s/SE’s.

While it may be true that my 6s is ageing, I'm confident it will last me for another 2-3 years minimum. Call it a Silver Fox lol.

Agreed. I have an OG SE and I intend to keep buying SE revisions when the time comes for a new phone (no time soon likely) and I believe the SE has garnered quite a following in its own right. :)
